- This is our first time seeing the damage that Typhoon Odette has done to Siargao island. Walking out from our house in Pilar Philippines and reacting to the amount of destruction that the super Typhoon did is painful to watch.
Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to Siargao island with Jmayel's mum & Story's grandma just before the Global pandemic that sent the whole planet into quarantine. We got stranded for months and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.

We filipino used to have these kind of catastrophes but one thing we knew is to stand up and rise again and never ever forget that God is always there to guide and help us. And thank God that we are still alive. The important thing is we are alive.
Filipino wisdom "hanggat my buhay may pag-Asa" (as long as we are alive there's always hope). Don't lose hope guys. Everything will pass
That is right
There is an important lesson opportunity for Story here. You need to stay strong and demonstrate to her that no matter how bad things get in life, there is always hope for the future. I was in Kruger National Park many years ago. A Ranger told me that yes Elephants can be destructive. But often that destruction creates circumstances for new growth. For example tearing a bow off a tree allows plants to germinate and grow in the shelter of that discarded dead branch. Your priorities are right. Get the house weatherproof. Then I'd clear up the broken glass so that in particular Poppy does not injure herself and can run free. I think the purchase of a chainsaw might be a useful tool to turn those trees into manageable logs. The place will look a whole lot better once those trees are removed.
Your daughter is already like a filipino that smiles even though it's a bad day. Stay strong. 🥺❤❤❤🙏
My girlfriend and I stayed in this exact house in January 2018 for 10 days when we were in Siargao. We just happened to type in Siargao on CZcams to see the storm damage and we came across your video and we were absolutely shocked that you are staying in the same exact place. We have so many memories there. When you showed the dad it brought back so many memories. He is so hardworking and a really nice person. We are so glad that you all are okay.
May God bless you and family and to all people in Siargao Island will stay safe
Please don't skip ads. That's the least we can do to help 8 miles from home help others too. Sending love to this family.
Not skipping at all 😊
Yes
Thank you for sharing. I didn't skip starting today
I don't mate because that is the most least i can do by not skipping ads.
Yes im not skipping
No skipping Adds to show our love and support to this Family and also to all the Victim of Typhoon Odette my prayers to them..BANGON SIARGAO, BANGON PILIPINAS
Parang ad ng kape ang slogan ah. Kaya no skipping of ads?
Yes, I do no escaping of adds. Supporting here in Saudi Arabia. 💕💖❤️💞♥️
I don't. it's my little support. Bangon Family bangon Siargao bangon Phillipines.
Great idea! Rewatch the video 100x more without skipping ads.
@M H I do rememeber naman po thats why i say "to all"God bless and New year po
looking back to this video and realized how far Siargao had recovered today... teary eyes..:( resilience indeed
It’s so crazy.
To Jay and family: We're deeply honoured and thankful that you chose and decided to stay and live in our country. We're deeply saddened though with the devastation that you also experienced there in Siargao with the onslaught of the typhoon Odette. But don't despair, God is good, and He shall provide the help that all of you there direly need. Just keep faith and Please take care still. You are a good family and we in the Philippines welcome you and your family with open arms and open heart. My prayers for you and your family and for the Filipino people there. God bless you all.
Prayers also from Indonesia.. Just see this.. We who live in dangerous zone must band together.. The people must be together to be strong.. 🙏 Hope you can get through it safe and sound...
"Hello, today is a really really bad day" but with a big smile on her face... such a positive little sunshine
story's cheerfulness is a ray of sunshine after all the devastation
From someone that has survived a cat 5 hurricane, I can tell you to have faith, your live will go back to normal and and you will come up much stronger on the other side of this tragic event. Be there for your family and your neighbors, they will play a very important roll in your life on this moments of recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during these difficult times.
Sir be strong like Filipinos!I pity you as I watch your vlog, but I can't do anything for what had happened!!Just trust God that all of us can recovered soon! I can help you thru prayers Sir,may God provide all your needs!! But still I salute you for being strong!!!God bless you with strength and good health!!!!
This is a common sight in the Philippines, we are the shield of asia when it comes to typhoons.
I've always attributed the fact that the Philippines is so awfully prone to natural calamities that contribute to the fatalistic optimism of the people because that is the only way to move forward.
Your windows were vulnerable to strong wind because they're too wide and no permanent partitions in between. External concrete frames around it will also help cut the entire impact of the wind. I really hope you recover soon. I'm one of the Yolanda (2013) survivors as well, this is relatable and painful to watch. It brings back the terrifying memories. It feels like it happened just yesterday. 😥
Story you adopted the Filipino resiliency mindset.. you're a strong little girl.. keep safe everyone 🙏❤
Filipino are resilient they always see a light in the dark they will bounce back stronger just be safe in no time they will be back in their feet Filipino are very RESOURCEFUL
Cebu was devastated and I can’t even begin to imagine what Siargao and the neighboring Islands have gone through. But the resiliency of Filipinos will always rise through this. I hope you all are doing just okay despite the problema with water and electricity.
After bagyong Odette we were exploring and we were supposed to check my cousin's house
Your daughter is so absolutely precious! I cried so hard during these last few videos you guys made! My heart and love it's being sent to all of you on the island and hoping you will make a speedy recovery and please know that you are in our hearts. Videos like this I definitely wants the entire infomercial so this video is taking me a little over 3 hours to watch☺
You are pillars of light in Siargao and you can help re-build the community there. There’s a greater purpose of why you guys are there for such a time as this. God bless you!! ✨🏝👏🏻💯
Very very true!
You guys will totally come back stronger. Siargao will rise again. Sending love!
I experienced this kind of devastation during the Yolanda. Filipinos are resilient and I know they will rise up and recover.
Happy New Year to all! God Bless the Philippines. 😎👍
Typhoons have been a part of the Filipinos lives...sometimes it's so-so and sometimes it's worst than you can imagine... Glad that your family are safe, take care and stay healthy to all...
Story helping her parents vlog is so heartwarming. She always bring sunshine and hope to your guys. Brave little girl 💗💗💗
I strongly agree, got same idea in my head...
Jay, you will soon find out how resilient Filipinos are, look around you, everything will back to normal within a year. As for the coconut trees, they will replenish themselves. Humans did not put them there, it was mother nature itself and mother nature will heal itself.
I think people are resilient in general regardless of nationality
@@rodbayan9974 He didn't mean only filipino's, but he meant "how" resilient filipino's are when catastrophe happens to our country. After something bad happens, we come together to help eachother with rebuilding our communities and etc.
Please stay strong, Jay, Sasha and Story. Hope that the Good Lord will help you and our kababayans will be resilient and have that 'hope' and spirit of goodness in your heart remain to overcome this big challenge ahead.🙏
@@michelleg.4587 ... well, what choice do you have when a lot of politicians in the philippines are corrupt .... you gotta be mentally tough & be a positive ..... I heard duterte allocated billions of pesos for the rehab of this island ...... hopefully, every single peso will go to the rehab projects & not a lot will go to corrupt politicians' bank accounts (with different names ... (😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂) ..... & lastly,I pray that the corned beef will not turn into sardines too ...... you know what I'm saying .......

@@johnnier.o.d4746 I was saying something positive about my culture. The politic statement is whole different story, but I understand though.
It was a pretty traumatic experience. My family and I are just glad our house actually held up. The moment I woke up, it was unbelievable. I can totally relate to what you guys felt. We were completely cut off. It was the most devastating thing to have happened in my life so far.
I hope things will get better soon.
Just imagine how many storm we Filipinos have to face each year... It made us resilient... No storm or disaster can stop us. ❤️❤️❤️
@Philball and who in their decent mind decided to not evacuate from their home located by the shore? I think you took the comment literally. Resilient, in win com's sentence, means being persevering in times of difficulty. Resilient in his/her statement does not refer to an act of standing still against a strong gush of wind by the shore. Be analytical before and cautious about commenting next time.
@Orient think before you comment.
You are Very Brave, i m afraid of storms i would never be able to stand this one single time , i m from Brazil and any small storm is enough to make me cry
@Walang Kwentang Channel Resiliency does not equal stupidity.
Resiliency is not a good thing and shouldn't be seen in a positive light. What we should do as 'Filipinos' is to improve infrastructure, invent things that will help us protect against storms. Build things that will complement storms, especially a way of harnessing a great deal of energy from these storms. We should be more productive, not resilient.
Can't help but cry along with you guys, the devastation in the island is just overwhelming, but Story is such a ray of sunshine, her innocence amidst the chaos is giving hope and positivity.
good thing you are all alright. don't worry, more help will come. Filipinos survive by HELPING HANDS, POSITIVE MINDSET, and SMILE regardless of the situation. we come back stronger than ever. :) By the way, that SMILE from Story is the start of your HOPE. Mabuhay Siargao!!!
Looking on how story do the vlog, i kinda think she adjusted to the Filipino resiliency. No matter how bad it is, there still a smile on her face like what most Filipinos do.
Sending love and light brother. I cannot imagine the anger, frustration, sadness and loss ( personal, financial and psychological) that you are experiencing. You are strong and powerful together. Your previous experience with natural disasters tells me of your strength. Keep believing in your strength and your ability to adapt. Of course that is easy for me to say but I wouldn’t give you BS in this moment. If your stuck or struggling and need someone to talk to please respond to this message and we will let it happen. In times of natural disaster gender, religion, wealth, politics and ethnicity mean nothing. All that matters is humanity. Sending the same message to anybody affected to this tragedy ✌🏾 & ❤️ my friend XOXO
Sending hugs from Negros, we here too is having devastating situation. Its hard to see something like this and I feel for you. We just got to stay strong and since you're in Philippines and you guys are now Filipinos at heart you should now that we stay strong and we'll keep on standing and smiling ok? We will recover and we will do it over and over because we are resilient!
@Robert Turpin what a horribly insensitive thing to say, shame on you.
When you look and feel down see the world in Story's eyes . She is full of hope and joy. Be strong. Bangon Siargao!!!!
Grateful you’ve all survived… there will be small victories amongst the bigger setbacks… you’ll eventually realize you’ve been moving forward. Take care.
I don't know how I found Y'all this morning, but I am grateful I clicked on your videos. I'm already in love with your family! Unfortunately I came across your channel during a horrible time, but it is times like these that reveal a person's True Colors. Y'all are wonderfully kind, pure-hearted people. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
You will recover, even Stronger 💫💪🌈

Hello Jay, the aftermath of this typhoon might be too overwhelming for you guys to see and experience, but know that Filipinos are very resilient people and I am very sure that they would be able to share that resiliency to you and you family. I love how positive you guys are and I pray that you will still have that positivity in you to stand up again.
I'm Filipino and I cried because you cried but when I saw the trees on the ground - I saw brand new houses being built with them, and food for weeks... Don't worry too much, the only big step that you must do is the first step to clean and fix your house :) as long as you're alive and healthy - then all is good. Broken cars can be fixed for cheap in the Philippines - money is not even a problem as long as you know how to use your elbow grease. Smile, tomorrow is a new day. A new beginning awaits. Bless you 🙏🏽
Let us give this British family love and respect as Filipinos where love by British. So many Filipinos are well off now in UK. You could survive that catastrophy as you did in Portugal and Thailand, Filipino survived during Spanish and Japanese occupation.
Be strong.. Mabuhay kayo... That's the reason we greet people Mabuhay... Continue living despite of the challenges.. MABUHAY!
love this. MABUHAY!
Story's smile is like symbol of hope for siargao. God bless siargao 🙏❤🇵🇭
Glad you guys are safe! God has plans for you guys! We can rise again after that disastrous storm. GIving so much love! Story is such a cutie 🥰
You are an inspiration. Love the consistent positivity in light of this devastation. Praying for you and your family and all the Filipinos affected.
J, Sacha and Story, I feel that you are really genuine people who truly love the Philippines. You have my respect and I am your forever fan, when everyone leaves, you stayed. And yo respectnthe Filipino people. I salute you!!!
Butch will surely understand. Definitely he’s as glad as we are to see you all survived with the wrath of this typhoon. Stay strong! You are in our prayers.
Sending love and hope to your family and to the people in Siargao and other parts of the Philippines affected by typhoon Odette. Stay strong guys 💖🙏
Hearing that the roosters survived this is amazing. I’m so sorry you had to go through this!
Filipino will recover, we are used to disaster and we always bounce back. One step at a time before you know it everything will be back to normal. I am glad you guys are ok, you can always replace material things but not a life. Still count your blessings even in a disaster.
6:00 I agree Filipinos will recover as they always do, but J doesn't know that...yet.
We feel for you guys. You are blessed to have made through that terrifying ordeal. Your daughter is an absolute joy to se and hear. Absolutely brilliant child. You’ll pull through this but it’s gonna be a very big task to do so.
So sad to see the devastation brought by the typhoon. Wish you and your family's safety.
Ah bless your little girl. She says, "Hello, today is a really really bad day!" with a great big smile on her face. That's kids for you. Bless her.
Story is the real story in this devastation. It seems she came through this typhoon with amazingly positive attitude. I'm going to chalk it up to great parenting. As Jessa Soliano posted, story is a "ray of sunshine". Some people see the glass half empty and some see it half full. Story see's the glass full to the brim. That way of looking at life when things have gone horribly wrong will serve her well as an adult. Story reminds me of Titanic's "Unsinkable Molly Brown". We all really need a person like that in times of crisis to give Hope and a Ray of Sunshine.
Story has become a very resilient kid she’s definitely an eastern girl 🥰
Thinking of you and the the Filipino people affected by this horrendous disaster! ♥️♥️
What's important is that you and your family are safe, this is where your Faith is gonna be tested, but you can also learn from the resiliency of the Filipinos, they will rebuild Siargao!, their Spirit will never falter whatever disaster may come. Siargao will recover!
True, as our country men on that side of the country where yearly visited with devastating typhoons like ODETTE comes out resilient with smile by helping each other during crisis.
Our prayers to all affected and victims of ODETTE.
Keep safe and stay strong …
Absolutely true....filipinos are strong willed people ,even in this trying stil we can stil see thier smiling faces....importante buhi!! and step by step they wil rebuild the damages brought about by typhoons nor earthquake....bangon lang siargao and its inhabitants, kayang kaya nyo yan ...i have high hopes that siargao wil be great again!
it pains me to see the devastation. I have loved the island like my getaway island, escaping the realities of the urban life. and seeing all the wrecked houses, devastation every devastation. I will extend every help i can get on my own way. and see you soon Siargao!!!

Don't worry sir, help will come soon. The Filipinos are brave and resilient.
We will cry in a moment, but soon will realize that we need to move on, smile, and rebuild again.
Get hope and strength to Filipinos. Talk to them.
