I think the situation with the SG position is partly (maybe mostly) influenced by the steep rise of 3 point usage since mid 2010s, around the warriors era. Everybody and their grandma starts shooting 3s, and a lot of players become much more versatile. Unless you're a center, basketball stars these days are usually versatile enough to play 2-3 positions. As such, a lot of PGs and SFs can roughly do what the SGs do for the teams and cover the role. That leaves the position partially redundant and as such, unless you have a defined star like Donovan Mitchell or Devin Booker, a lot of teams usually filled it with role-players to balance out their teams.
Well, at least that's what I feel from watching the last decade or so from the NBA. It's not exactly bad per-se, just the evolution of the game I guess. Who knows what we'll get next.
Even big men are becoming good from deep though. Jokic and KAT spring to mind.

Basketball is position-less now and you can’t even be an effective player if you aren’t able to switch between at least 4-5 positions on defense without being a liability. It’s almost like playing pick up ball at the average LA Fitness. Most everyone is the same size. Makes the game more fun in my eye.

The debate is really good but the way Isaac talked about Herro was so annoying. Calling Reaves a good passer and defender while trashing Tyler and saying they’re basically in the same level offensively sounded CRAZY. Doing that with the Lakers cap on made it look even more biased lol. He’s better benched because of the context of the team and the rest of the roster. Maybe with a guy like D Murray or Jrue Holiday he’d look less like a liability and although he isn’t a positive I don’t think it’s that big of a problem because he has the size to be irritating to his matchup and he actually put some effort in that end (unlike guys like Trae). That being said, good luck for him in Brooklyn 😂
Dort is underrated in my opinion. He's been a 40% shooter for a while from deep, and he's a great defender. Outside of drafting a couple of stars, the holy grail is finding a great 3 and d guy willing to play his role. Dort is definitely that for OKC.
