He accepted that life has its ups and downs and even if sometimes he is ridden by sorrow and pain, the good outweighs the bad. He loved Rei, but it was more conditional love and they both acknowledge it. As explained in the movie, All Ayanami models are made to like Shinji. And even when one of the Ayanamis genuinely did love Shinji, in the end he saw it more as familial love. Which makes sense since she's modeled after Yui. Asuka's love towards Shinji was more of a friend-kind of attraction as well. Shikinami models are also very likely modeled to like the Third Child, so the attraction is deep down artificial as well. They like each other but both understand that they ultimately wouldn't work out together. Kaworu and Shinji felt attraction towards each other but solely because they only had each other. Kaworu felt like Shinji would understand him the best, with them both being forced by fate to live through the cycle and Shinji was so affection-starved, he latched onto Kaworu. Mari and Shinji was a relationship that they both decided on, no being forced by "fate" or "artificial affection". They started off with a clean slate and they clicked in the end in a genuine way. I love the ending because Shinji is free. He can decide for himself and nothing holds him back anymore.
Kensuke ending: He becomes a pilot like he always wanted, saves the world, and charms Asuka. Pen Pen ending: Pen Pen uses instrumentality to turn everyone into Penguins and rules the world.
The Kensuke ending could inspired part of Canon Ending. But the Pen Pen ending is a bit Canon, because we see a lot of penguins in all the world. They're working for them master!

Adam ending: Adam is revived to his former power from when he caused the second impact leading to the birth of several thousand angels all at once. Shortly after, Gendo merges himself with Lilith in hopes of reviving Yui by any means necessary and becomes Abadon, the final angel. As Abadon kills and devours the humans as well as the other angels to achieve his goal, Shinji goes out to find the other Eva pilots around the world in hopes of uniting them as one force against Abadon. However, to his surprise, some of the angels are helping him in his quest, and he's not sure why. After reuniting with Rei and Asuka, Shinji starts having strange visions of Adam and the moon that prompt him to search for Adam in hopes of finding answers. During this, Misato struggles to come to terms with the death of Kaji and hijacks Eva Unit 19 to go and kill Abadon herself, knowing she will die trying, but she doesn't care anymore. Shinji and the rest of the remaining Eva pilots take their Evas and make it to Antarctica where they find Adam waiting for them. Shinji is about to fight Adam until he suddenly hears him speak. Adam tells Shinji the truth behind the conflict between humans and angels and that Abadon cannot merely be killed as that would kill Lilith along with all of humanity and that she must be separated from Gendo, but in order to do that, both spears of Longinus will be required. While Adam has reclaimed his own spear, Lilith's spear is still on the moon. Eva Unit 01 gets equipped with a super battery, an experimental jetpack and is hooked to a modified launch pad to catapult it to the moon. Before Shinji sets out, Asuka Rei and Toji all give him a goodbye hug wishing him well on what may be the mission to decide humanity's fate. Shinji questions Adam about why some of the angels seem to be helping them and Adam explains that these angels have partial humanity in them unlike their predecessors, but that doesn't mean all of them will be allies. Shinji gets into Eva Unit 01 and is shot into space to go to the moon and reclaim the spear. After fighting through several space angels, he makes it to the moon, grabs the spear, and flies back to earth, but on his way back, Abadon throws Eva Unit 19 at Unit 01, critically damaging it as it crash lands back on earth. Before Abadon can kill Shinji and take unit 01, the other Evas join up to fend him off. Shinji tries to get Unit 01 to move, but its damage appears to be too severe. As Shinji is losing hope, Adam reaches out and calls for Yui, telling her to remember her son causing Unit 01 to move on its own despite its damage. Adam then uses both spears to merge himself with Unit 01. Enraged, Abadon vows to wipe out all life in the universe as he and Shinji face off in the final battle. The battle is long, fierce, and powerful, but Shinji manages to emerge victorious and manages to kill Gendo and separate him from Lilith. Adam separates from Unit 01 and throws the two spears of Longinus onto the moon, turning it into second Eden, a world for the angels to live on away from the humans. As unit 01 is slowly dying, Shinji sees his mother Yui. She tells him how proud she is and that he should go be with his friends and live the happy life he's earned. after Unit 01 dies and disintegrates, the rest of the Evas eject their pilots, grow wings and fly off with Adam and his angels to second Eden. Lilith thanks Shinji and Adam for setting her free from Gendo and burrows herself deep underground to slumber for eternity under humanity's new future.
As much as I love Asuka's character, nope, no way, the MPE's were toying with her, seeing as they got up the moment she went down. They had S2's with dummy plugs, meaning she had to destroy the cores to put them down. Which she didn't do.
The switcheroo ending: Ramiel sucessfully drills into NERV hq but then realzlizes that Lilith is being held there instead of Adam and reconsiders it’s life choices
My Favorite Endings are Good Ending: Shinji in an act of Bravery, Courage and Determination gets on the Eva and goes out to battle to Asuka's aid, they manage to finish off eva's series and stop SELLE and Gendo, Shinji congratulates Asuka for proving that she really was and is and always will be "The best Eva Pilot in the World" and she later tells him that "She also did very well in battle, he did an act that a True Man would do." Last Stand Ending= Shinji dies heroically and is seen as a brave person for the first time FBI Ending= and that what they did to Reí are already crimes against humanity, Gendo, Ritsuko deserve life imprisonment and Misato condition freedom to rehabilitate the three children, is a good ending Reí Ending: Shinji He gets a little sister and is loved by his Father, he finally has a Family 😊 Asuka Ending: Asuka when fighting against the Eva's series literally shatters them and that is why she survives, earns the recognition and Title of "The Best Eva Pilot in the World" with honors and rubs it to Shinji to the Face, then takes him to Germany to become a "True Man to the German" Revenge (Reverse) Ending: Asuka did that and even went further... Shinji stopped being a virgin without noticing it. Saul Ending: Save Them Saul!! FELIZ JUEVES ENDING: Because the Angels attacked on Thursdays for some reason Shinji manages to mature as a person and goes to therapy, meets Asuka and they become the Best Duo on a Thursday, then they save Toji from his corrupted EVA on Thursday, then They Save Reí for being Thursday, the End of Evangelion takes place on Thursday and Shinji, Asuka and Reí in an epic battle of honor, glory, epicness and understanding between the 3, manage to save the World from selle's plans, and celebrate big the following Thursday, Gendo is apprehended and sent far away, and Shinji and Asuka finally live a normal life Together, Reí Somewhere meets a Boy in White Hair, claims to be a Clone of the Original just like Rei, a good relationship arises between them and they communicate with Shinji and Asuka on Thursdays. Which Asuka wishes them a Feliz Jueves.

I dont think I can describe with worlds how this movie made me feel. I just had to wipe a singel tear from the corner of my eye. I Think this is the first time I actully shed a tear over a movie.
I stand by the fact that if Unit-03 wasn't hijacked by an angel, Toji would've singlehandedly prevented instrumentality. Hell, he probably could've soloed the MP Evas. Especially since he kicked Shinji's ass earlier in the anime.
To those thinking rebuild ending is the truly happy ending, think again. Rebuild ending is the world we live today. And....are we genuinely happy about the world's situation? Yes evas are gone thanks to shinji, but we're still the broken speicies, doing all the wrong things to ourselves and to the world.

I was in tears, crying, right after finishing end of evangelion, I don't know if google's mike conspiracy is true, but right after I finished watching it, this was in recommended, I have never seen an evangelion video on youtube before, I just want you to know that this shit was therapeutic, I am feeling so much better now. The ending was very uplifting surprisingly misato is alive again, gendo realized his mistakes and is now probably a better dad , rei unlocked "love for others" , asuka now even tho lacking an eye and in shock when we see her , has recently discovered that her mom loves her and is with her all the time . Before Abadon can kill Shinji and take unit 01, the other Evas join up to fend him off. Shinji tries to get Unit 01 to move, but its damage appears to be too severe. As Shinji is losing hope, Adam reaches out and calls for Yui, telling her to remember her son causing Unit 01 to move on its own despite its damage. Adam then uses both spears to merge himself with Unit 01. Enraged, Abadon vows to wipe out all life in the universe as he and Shinji face off in the final battle. The battle is long, fierce, and powerful, but Shinji manages to emerge victorious and manages to kill Gendo and separate him from Lilith. Adam separates from Unit 01 and throws the two spears of Longinus onto the moon, turning it into second Eden, a world for the angels to live on away from the humans. As unit 01 is slowly dying, Shinji sees his mother Yui. She tells him how proud she is and that he should go be with his friends and live the happy life he's earned. after Unit 01 dies and disintegrates, the rest of the Evas eject their pilots, grow wings and fly off with Adam and his angels to second Eden. Lilith thanks Shinji and Adam for setting her free from Gendo and burrows herself deep underground to slumber for eternity under humanity's new future.

As much as I love Asuka's character, nope, no way, the MPE's were toying with her, seeing as they got up the moment she went down. They had S2's with dummy plugs, meaning she had to destroy the cores to put them down. Which she didn't do.
Watching the last two episodes is basically the drug ending so it's Canon in my eyes

My Favorite Endings are
Good Ending: Shinji in an act of Bravery, Courage and Determination gets on the Eva and goes out to battle to Asuka's aid, they manage to finish off eva's series and stop SELLE and Gendo, Shinji congratulates Asuka for proving that she really was and is and always will be "The best Eva Pilot in the World" and she later tells him that "She also did very well in battle, he did an act that a True Man would do."
Last Stand Ending= Shinji dies heroically and is seen as a brave person for the first time
FBI Ending= and that what they did to Reí are already crimes against humanity, Gendo, Ritsuko deserve life imprisonment and Misato condition freedom to rehabilitate the three children, is a good ending
Reí Ending: Shinji He gets a little sister and is loved by his Father, he finally has a Family 😊
Asuka Ending: Asuka when fighting against the Eva's series literally shatters them and that is why she survives, earns the recognition and Title of "The Best Eva Pilot in the World" with honors and rubs it to Shinji to the Face, then takes him to Germany to become a "True Man to the German"
Revenge (Reverse) Ending: Asuka did that and even went further... Shinji stopped being a virgin without noticing it.
Saul Ending: Save Them Saul!!
FELIZ JUEVES ENDING: Because the Angels attacked on Thursdays for some reason Shinji manages to mature as a person and goes to therapy, meets Asuka and they become the Best Duo on a Thursday, then they save Toji from his corrupted EVA on Thursday, then They Save Reí for being Thursday, the End of Evangelion takes place on Thursday and Shinji, Asuka and Reí in an epic battle of honor, glory, epicness and understanding between the 3, manage to save the World from selle's plans, and celebrate big the following Thursday, Gendo is apprehended and sent far away, and Shinji and Asuka finally live a normal life Together, Reí Somewhere meets a Boy in White Hair, claims to be a Clone of the Original just like Rei, a good relationship arises between them and they communicate with Shinji and Asuka on Thursdays. Which Asuka wishes them a Feliz Jueves.

To those thinking rebuild ending is the truly happy ending, think again. Rebuild ending is the world we live today. And....are we genuinely happy about the world's situation? Yes evas are gone thanks to shinji, but we're still the broken speicies, doing all the wrong things to ourselves and to the world.
It's the happy ending from a story perspective otherwise no ending is happy
Well, at least we, as human race, can hope to correct our errors (hopefully)
