I tripped so hard on a combination of psychedelics and dissociatives once that at one point I could not process, comprehend, or even recognize human features at all. I covered away when I looked in the mirror or at friends. Humanoid shapes were completely abstract to me. I came to wonder later on if that's partly what they meant in religious texts about not being able to comprehend certain things
To throw another layer onto that, the human brain is hardwired to comprehend the human face, we have functionality dedicated specifically to the comprehension of human faces. If that were not the case we wouldn’t see human faces in non-human objects, as these are false positives in our facial recognition software.

My issue with him was never that he was a crybaby - I actually scolded my room mate for calling him that & was like "he's only like,15 & is regularly having to deal with absolutely horrifying, traumatic things in order to save the damn world, let the boy cry, damn" - my issue was him being kind of wishy-washy on whether he would continue on that path or say eff it & leave, but I also understand where that comes from too & I can't honestly blame him for that either.
What's weird is the fixation of some artists in Japan with youth, the chosen kids is just an excuse for some weird fantasy. I love this show but I feel many people I recommend it to feel a disconnect, me included, with a teenager's drama when you'd expect some mature decisions when dealing with apocalypse.

The most terrifying angels were Sachiel (first) ramiel (singing geometry) and Zeruel (paper arms). Because for all 3 they threw everything they had at them and it was nothing. They did make a plan for ramiel pretty fast and that took it down a bit. But for sachiel and zeruel, nothing was really effective except for unit 1 going berserk. Bardiel is close but that’s because they took an EVA

the fact when EVA unit 1 is a mother soul sealed inside there, maybe thats explained why unit 1 get reactivated and went berserk (sometimes in 2.0 berserk where shinji angered from angel)

The soul inside Unit 1 is Shinji’s mothers. She wanted to protect her son and why she betrayed Gendo in end of Eva, because he never cared for shinji like she wanted him too.
I really love Ramiel and the whole Operation Yashima because we actually get to see many, MANY people are the ones making the fight against the angels possible, and it's not just the protagonists and their super fighting robots. Getting to see the power of well organised logistics in order to make Misato's crazy plan possible is awesome.

I love that almost every angel has an original concept and design and are not the generic big humanoid monster that shoot lazers, only Sachiel meets these requirements (without counting Adam and Lilith)
Even then, Sachiel has a pretty strange and interesting design despite it being by far the least complex angel

The best part about the angels designs in the series is that the artitsts probably read biblically descriptions of angels and tought "thats to much we need to make it more friendly"
Maybe when compared to the Cherubim and Ophanim, but I'd say Seraphim and any other depictions of either winged humanoids or blinding amorphous lights definitely have a more tame appearance compared to NGE angels

@@lune5289 Well I think he means that NGE angels are as abstract looking as the 3 most powerful biblically accurate angels Seraphim, Ophanim and Cherubim according to Ezekiel Seraphim is 1 flaming eye with 6 wings, Ophanim is a bunch of metallic rings with eyes and Cherubim is a metallic humanoid with several animal heads behind 1 human head and 6 wings as well. Most people don't know this but archangels are actually a very low class of angels. The Top 3 are Seraphim, Ophanim and Cherubim.

Arael destroyed Asuka's mind, Armisal destroyed Rei's body while Tabris' objective was to destroy Ikari's heart, and while on it cause EVA-01's to awaken and cause the third impact.

It's not as if Tabris wanted to break Shinji's heart, as a mission objective. He actually acted on his own when approaching Shinji, out of Seele's plan.
Tabris was a bit sad for having to carry out his assigned task, but was relieved when Eva Unit 01 stopped him. Of course he should have expected Shinji's traumatized reaction after, though...

Did anyone else notice how the angel of the womb symbolically takes the form of an umbilical cord? Only to attach itself to the part of the Eva where anatomically the belly button would be.
yea tbh even tho i find it to be the most interesting the pregnancy body horror combined with the infection body horror makes it one of the most grotesque angels. which is crazy because it doesnt even have a fixed form. but it is literally supposed to be an angel that can manifest the desires of the consciousness that it has merged with (reis desire to be with shinji physically manifesting in the form of the white snake rei) so being able to absorb and manipulate biomass does kind've make it a mother angel, or at the very least a creator. tbh i think its ability to empathize with rei was the most interesting thing about it. it is the only angel in the series who has directly communicated with humanity and it is not even threatening, if anything it is confused about its own emotions and trying to share it with a human.
It's almost like they're names are literal or something 🤯
And not just that, when in it's “linear“ looking form (looks like a sperm) it touches the belly “it looks like an egg/ovum“
Angels speciality:
Sachiel: a normal melee combat angel which maybe was created to test humanity's defense after 2nd impact. When in near death, sachiel can blow up itself hoping the Eva would also get destroyed.
Samshel: similar to sachiel but it Has a specific weapons to attack evas with ease.
Ramiel: after studying that most evas are close range attackers, ramiel was created as a highly powerful long ranged angel with a strong at field (also the first angel to penetrate nerv HQ base, resulting a scheme where angels are ordered to invade the base).
Gaghiel: the first aquatic angel, making the evas got a difficulty To deal with it since they arent built to adept on water.
Israfel: learning that there are more than 1 evas is active, israfel can split into 2 as a reason for a balance fight.
Sandalphon: an angel who is exclusively able to resist lava heat so it can battle Asuka with advantage.
Matarael: continuing the mission, matarael was designed to breach the place with its acid similar on how ramiel did.
Sahaquiel: as the biggest angel ever, sahaquiel was a literal bomb falling from the sky in hope the evas along with Tokyo 3 will get obliterated by the big explosion.
Ireul: for once, ireul was the first angel to not pyschally attack an Eva, instead it hacked nerv's computering system like most digital viruses do.
Leliel: the angel was made to trick evas thinking that the sphere is a real body, while consuming them from below with the thanks to its anti-AT field (the angel itself can only be explained with highly order mathematics and physics, which nerv couldn't).
Bardiel: bardiel was tested to corrupt an Eva (unit 3) to feel controlling it. because of this, unit 1/Shinji was struggling really hard since "Eva shouldn't fight with other Eva" along with his friend the one who piloted it.
Zeruel: after a long time, a new brawler angel appeared. Zeruel was gifted with its strong folded arms capable to decapitate evas and assault nerv's base with ease (basically samshel but better). Although its core is exposed, it has a layer which will be closed to protect the core.
Arael: realizing evas can't go up to space, arael was created to stay there and attack evas with its beam capable to read the pilot's mind so it wouldn't necessary to pyschally damage the Eva
Armisael: Armisael was likely a combination of bardiel and arael due to its ability to corrupt both Eva and their pilot. Thanks to its thin body, armisael is easy enough to avoid evas attack. Similar to sachiel, it can self destruct itself in term to destroy the Eva.
Tabris: as the last resort of adam's children, tabris was designed to be a human sized and shaped angel to hide his identity. Successfully infiltrate nerv's base, tabris continued his plan to retrieve Adam in terminal dogma, which was failed due it was lilith that nerv kept. With arael caused asuka's breakdown and armisael caused rei 3 death, tabris was responsible for shinji's biggest mental breakdown from eps 24-26.

Honestly what I find most fascinating after reading up on all the angels, is how not all of them were truly evil. Hell, some of them merely wanted to understand humanity. Too bad their methods were potentially deadly. It makes you wonder how the other angels interacted with one another. Were there disagreements and infighting amongst them? Did some believe humanity ought to be wiped out entirely, while others merely were curious or as seen in at least 2 cases on screen, felt bad for humanity?
Honestly if there were different factions amongzt the angels like it seems, its lucky the last two, number 17 and number 2 pitied us, otherwise, we would have been without a doubt eliminated

When Arael attacked asuka, I couldn’t help but laugh when the light shown on her and Hallelujah started playing
because of terminal montage for his videos of something about kirby I can't take hallelujah seriously
I immediately burst into laughter upon hearing "Hallelujah" playing for real in the actual scene like if someone just started micspamming in real life before realizing what was going on. Still couldn't help but feel a sense of Schadenfreude in the moment at the apparent absurdity of this enemy. The fear would come later.

Yeah. While I understand its purpose in the scene (I think?) It just felt so tonally incorrect with the psychological torture Asuka was undergoing in that moment.

@@blakebridges8989 from what I remember (NGE lore is REALLY complicated), a precursor alien race seeded a bunch of worlds with life. They spread two different types of life. One type was essentially humans. The other type was Angels. If I recall correctly humanity is imperfect but has the ability to evolve, whereas the Angels are ‘perfect’ but cannot evolve. The precursor aliens specifically tried to ensure they did not accidentally seed a planet with both types of life, but for an unspecified reason this is exactly what happened on earth. The Angel that was seeded on earth is called Adam, and it is the reason all the other Angels are attacking Tokyo - they believe Adam is hidden there and they are trying to reach Adam.

To me, Leliel and Arael unsettle me the most. Its just the fact that compared with the other angels, they not only do not have an *obvious* sapience or even sentience, but also because of their abstract design and how they break the laws of reality so unlike the others. Leliel is an entity that exists solely within complex mathematical principles, and Arael simply looms and spontaneously attacks someone's subconscious. Also doesn't help that Leliel is just a colossal monochrome circle instead of something comprehensive and Arael... just look at it
Actually they are some of the smartest angels. Both did not wish to wipe out humanity but to understand it. Unfortunately their methods are quite deadly.
Arael imo is the closest thing relating to what a Seraphim is described.
Armisael also fits into this. The design of all her forms (helical ring, angel tower and Rei spirit) are amazing, and she doesn’t seem to want to fight. She even talks to Rei and about their shared fear and loneliness. I find her to be very compelling.

armisael has always been really weird to me because we never really learn what it does. it “infects” the victims, but what does the infection do, exactly? its other attacks seem to be to simply pin down the victim while it infects it, as well as causing hallucinations and disorientations. it morphs eva-0’s body in weird unexplained ways and is named after the angel of the womb. i’d assume it was meant to affect the victims in the long term but only Rei II was fully infected and died soon after. so idk
Maybe infect them, take control and lead them to the Dogma?
My interpretation is it was trying to effectively "impregnate" an Eva so it could make more angels, hence that moment where that mass grows out of unit 0's back that has bits of the bodies of most of the previous, slain angels. It probably would have succeeded if Rei II didn't choose to self-destruct unit 0.

But I’m not sure if her intentions were purely to attack. Based on her conversation with Rei, I get the impression that she just wants to see her brothers and sisters again.

I think the spider one is one of the most dangerous, sure all we see it do is drop acid down a hole but that wasn't all it did either. It somehow managed to cut off all power to not only Tokyo 3 but also the entirety of NERV headquarters and their facilities, the only reason they were able to do some last minute adjustments to the Eva's was because they were lucky enough that one of the command room computer guys ended up being on the surface and was close enough to the Angle to be able to visually see it and was lucky to have found a running car he could appropriate in order to make it back to headquarters to tell them that they were under attack by an Angel.
The power outage was sabotage by humans. The angel had nothing to do with that.
Gotta wonder why the first angel was so....odd compared to the others. It could have been anything, but it chose the form of a giant humanoid with eyes it uses to investigate the humans, engaging only when engaged and otherwise just wandering around curious about where it is. It isn't until it sees the Eva that is gets angry.

Honestly some of the most terrifying creatures imaginable. The face that they have these abstract shapes with masks, are simple geometric objects or are simply ribbons of light that have blood and other tissues as well as having godlike world-ending powers
I’d say bardiel and Zeruel are my favorites. Zeruel is so huge and so powerful. It’s shown next to the characters better than any other angel, You can really tell it’s size. And bardiel is very mysterious as to what it was that took over the Eva. Plus Eva 3 is probably my favorite Eva as far as design goes.
Leilel was the creepiest in my opinion. It literally swallows up any thing that it makes contact with into a void of nothingness.
I felt bad for Shinji when he was stuck in the void.

@@eduardomunoz4387 Yeah, the younger Shinji that talks to the current one is Leliel manifesting himself in the void/Dirac Sea. He doesn’t seem malicious, more curious.
The same is true with Arael, who tried to do the same thing with Asuka. But because of how powerful he was, and how fragile Asuka’s mental state was at the time, well… it didn’t go as he had expected.

Never get tired of watching angel's blink beam blasting entire cities with giant cross.
After taking some time to think about the angels, they are all so physically and mentally terrifying it’s difficult to come up with any reason or anything to make it have reason.
The way the second angel’s core stick out makes it look like it’s doing a constant 👁👅👁 face
