I wish I could ride mine right now. I have the exact same model and got it for $1300 and it is amazing. I did have a 2002 that I drove over 3000 miles it was slow but it was my first scooter and I rode it 2000 miles in the year I drove it.
I used to have a 2009 Metropolitan (first generation) it would do 39-41 mph GPS on a flat road, and I weigh 240. Did you check the engine and final drive oil?
Im not 100% i know for the older Carbureted Ones there was stuff you could do have not had any one mod one that i have worked on . Thanks for watching ✌🏼
I put 22,000+ on a 2009 Metropolitan, mostly at full throttle, and it was still running like new when I sold it. But it was carbureted and liquid cooled. They should last close to 50,000 miles IF properly maintained. Climbing hills is hard on them. The CVT does not have a low enough drive ratio to keep the engine in its powerband under a heavy load. I mostly rode mine like a bicycle, at full throttle, on the shoulders of flat southern AZ roads.
How much do you weigh? If i got it I'd need to go 40mph to drive on the roads and I wouldn't want to be slowing traffic or get honked at. I'm 132lbs how fast do you think I could go? Could i keep up with traffic?
Thank you for watching, I have never seen or installed training wheels on a metropolitan, There are companies out there that make training wheels for large motorcycles so I guess anything is possible✌🏼
I am in California. Do I need motorcycle license to buy ride this scooter? I have regular class c driver license. Please let me know what kind of license do I need to ride this scooter.

I sat on one and my knees were 3-4" above the bar-how could I steer this thing? Way too small! Now I worry about if I can fit on other scooters.
For the newer metropolitans, is there performance parts available?
Im not 100% i know for the older Carbureted
