It's nice to see you enjoy your trip. And regarding the tip in Vietnam, it's nice to just tip whatever you want, and regarding the rowers, normally they expect foreigners are much richer than them so they ask for more, I think you just tip what you think the best then it's fine :)
If we go with tour guide, they normally have an average tip, and we just tip with that amount :)

Ninh Binh was magical! We were more than happy to tip which we did, but to ask for more is taking advantage of tourist. It’s just a part of travel you need to deal with 😅

Many cheap tourists don't tip the rowers for their hard work so why they have to remind all the tourists at the end of the ride . They are actually not very well paid for their work and count on the tips to make their living . On top of that they are not allowed to work every day because they have to share the job with other inhabitants of the village . They have to wait 3 or 4 days ( sometimes one or two weeks ) for their turn depending on the number of visitors . Usually we tip the rower 25K to 30k VND (1 to 1.20 USD)
per person . I also saw some generous tourists give more .

Thanks for sharing that’s really good to know! It’s such a shame because as tourists if we have already paid for a tour we expect the guide to be getting paid, a tip is extra if the guide has been great. Hopefully something changes and they get paid better soon!

Great place there but we had the same with our boat guy. We were absolutely not happy with his service because he paddled like winning a marathon and never stopped for a second if we asked to take some photos and enjoy nature.
At the end he asked for a tip and we said NO! We never did this.😅 Then he started to talk to others around in Vietnamese and got really angry.
    That was our trip. 😌

Oh no! Definitely want to be able to take it slow and enjoy the scenery it’s such a beautiful part of the world. Luckily Anne our driver was really nice and stopped for us to take photos but we felt our tip was already reasonable and generous 😅

Many miserly tourists find all kinds of reasons for not tipping the rowers for their hard work .

I think it might be a cultural difference, we tip if the country we’re visiting has a tipping culture but in Australia we wouldn’t tip as it’s not normal in our culture.
So to be asked for more than what we offered comes across a bit rude where we are from. Every culture is different and I don’t think they mean to offend.
