- Ford Escort Mk 2 RS2000. This immaculate/concourse 1977 RS2000 is in the stunning "Signal Amber/Orange", built by Sam Cosgrove from SC Classics in Widnes UK (Facebook: SC Classics Automotive Repair Shop). Tim takes a detailed look around this amazing car and then for a test drive. But this is no ordinary RS2000! The cars engine has been upgraded to a 170+ Zetec which gives it blistering acceleration. The build includes;
6x13 polished 4 spoke alloys,
RS steering wheel,
Fishnet Recaro seats,
Disc brakes all round (4 pots at the front and Cosworth for the rears),
Type 9, 5 speed gearbox,
Full stainless steel exhaust and manifold,
GAZ adjustable shock absorbers,
Single prop shaft.
Tim pushes the cars handling and performance round some lovely tight county lanes. "The exhaust note that comes from this car can only be described as epic, more like Beethoven for petrol heads". Great video! I owned VLN 406S back in the late 80's. I purchased it from a guy in Felsted, Essex for £2,100, it was in beautiful original condition, and l sold it (wish l hadn't) a year or so later for £2,200. 'If' l had it now, well, you all know what it would be worth. Great days, thanks once again

Owned a 4 door RS2000 Monza Red (Black Vinal Roof) here in Australia in the mid 80s. Loved that car. Price here in Aust for one in good condition now around $50k.
@@johnbambo9036 Thanks John. A black vinyl roof was proper 80s. I alway thought the best add on was the X Pack body kit, it looked great. If you live in oz you could try and get “one of the last V8 intercepters!”, you would be Mad not too…
Life moves on, recently took delivery of a 2024 Boxster GTS (Manual) nostalgia only takes you so far! ha ha.
@@johnbambo9036 I always wanted a GT4 RS. Much prefer the coupe. Certainly handles better. Or a GT4 original in yellow. Lovely.

Yea, but 3 months you won’t forget. It was fantastic to drive, much better than I expected. Life is too short Chris, buy yourself one as they only go up in price, no brainer.

Had a signal orange one totally standard loved it. It got stolen. Then a black one reg hjr91w balanced crankshaft lsd. Twin 40s vernier timing gear high lift cam reved of its head hat a fun I had with that car when I was In my 20s it got stolen aswell moved onto a mark one g t I 1800 same performance but quiet and front wheel drive then. Kids etc recently. Rs 4 b8 what can I say sold it and why unless you’ve had one saving up for a ford escort. Rs 2000 with the old pinto engine and maybe twin45s for a change would love a signal orange one or a white one nearly there 😂
Go for it Kate. Yes those old Ford locks where made of plasticine. Getting your old ford stolen was a badge of honour.
RS 4 , wow your a proper petrol head. You will NEVER lose money with an RS2000, go out and get one…NOW!

That’s a beauty, love the colour. Ignore the purists who can’t appreciate a z tec upgrade, they’d probably have a heart attack with a Millington or an HPE as well.

Looking back now, it's truly a wonder how they weren't just parked at the side of the road with the owners at the front of a large group of people just looking at them in sheer awe and extacy. Better than drugs.

Not familiar with the escort rs2000 not many in the states but a fan of the Capri has more of a sporty look
Hi David, the RS2000 was a big seller in the UK and Europe. The RS2000 went on to be a big success in the rally circuit proving hard to beat.
The old 2.0 Pinto engine was a bit of a boat anchor and didn’t like to Rev.
This engine was so much better compared with the pinto. It was a hoot to drive. Check out my video on the mark 1 RS

Yes, I am well aware that these only had around 110 BHP (ish) from an 8 valve 2.0 Litre carb-fed "Pinto" engine.
Factory standard is ALWAYS best with these historic cars.

"Factory bog standard" examples of these cars fetch powerful £££££/$$$$ ... Ones that have been "Bastardised" fetch less.
If I wanted a "Fast car" ...I would buy a BMW M3

Yep, dead right. However this was not my car. And I have to say it drove much better than an original 110BHP. If I was going to buy one myself I would keep to total original. I would prefer my RS2000 with the X Pack.
What a waste of a car with a Zetec, wasted in the respect of its worth less because its fannied with. Hardly the ultimate......
Thanks Dan. The extra power really did make it more fun to drive. Also sounded ace. I suppose at the end of the day it’s all about how it drives, and this little beauty drove like a dream. See your point about it not being original, but I know which one I would choose, because I want to drive it every day. Enough said.

Overrated, the RS Mexico is better and that stupid dropsnout is a real loser to me, makes the car look like an anteater grovelling in the dirt. But really, we got the worse selection of blue collar sports cars in the UK. Tiny lil roads can't take Camaros, Chargers, Falcons and we don't even have the Taunus coupe, Commodore B coupe, Kadet C and so on. Capri my ass !
I can see you like your America cars. But to then say the RS2000 is overrated…mmmm. Originally, these cars weren’t fast or quick compared with the American equivalent, however, they get it done with a stick of dynamite and a sledgehammer but we prefer to do the job with a rock hammer and chisel.

totally agree with you, massively over rated car, at the same time you could have a lotus sunbeam, Chevette HS or a fiat 124 sport, which would all run rings around the shit RS, Just wait for all the sad ford fan boys to show up now.
