The worst part of the game is that you know King Knight is going to do the worst and betray basically everyone who helped him. Best part is that you know he gets beat like a chump by Shovel Knight.
Not only that - the guy was "defeated" even before Shovel Knight came - if you finish Shovel Knight Showdown campaign as King Knight you'll get a scene where it is told that after becoming the King the guy was CONSTANTLY sending invites to everyone and preparing feasts only to eat them himself alone. Basically the reason why Shovel Knight, Plague Knight and Specter Knight beat him like a chump is because King Knight was gorging on "stress relief food" all the time after his campaign and basically was not even close to his top form both mind and body.
I think that loneliness also took part of that too, everyone hates him (rightfully) because of that and after covering all the castle with gold he or either eated all the food, became lazy, and depressed because basically even the order hates him
Now that you put it that way, it actually sadder because king knight went from being a knight capable of defeating someone like Specter knight TWICE and having amazing heirlooms to use to his disposal in addition of the advice he heard on how to be a proper king(which he ignores), to being the most pathetic and easiest boss in shovel of Hope (and he’s even easier in plague of shadows, so much so the feats for defeating a no quarter members unscathed outright EXCLUDES king knight)
To be fair. He would’ve made the right choice had Pridemoor not mentioned his mother, he’s not stupid, he’s just self-absorbed & would’ve figured out that he would inherit the kingdom if he chose to save his friends. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a jackass, just that Pridemoor absolutely made everything rotten once he mentioned the one person King Knight actually cares about in an attempt to guilt-trip him.
I like the hint that the "Specter of Torment" DLC takes place between the beginning and end of King Knight's campaign. By the end, Specter Knight already has his phantom form.
Trying to piece together the timeline of SoT and KoC is honestly really complicated. First, the ending. We see propeller knight assisting the enchantress in her attack on the glidewing, so he must be already recruited. We also see mole knight, tinker knight and polar knight traveling to the tower, so it must be shortly after specter knight beat them. Also, plague knight blows up joustus cards for the enchantress, so he must be in as well. That leaves treasure knight. He's seen preparing the chest trap in his stage. Does he know of shovel knight coming for him? We don't know. Next hint: pridemoor keep in SoT. When specter knight faces king knight, we only see a general distaste from both of them. This campaign, as well as king knight's story in showdown, show that specter knight truly despises king knight, so maybe he just decided to ignore his hatred in service of his mission? The dialouge also implies that king knight already works for the enchantress and specter knight only has to get him to stop being lazy. That would imply that king knight is probably the last knight that specter knight fights in SoT. Lastly, the curios. Unless i'm mistaken, specter knight already had the dread claw, the throwing scicle, the bouncing soul and the spider scythe in the first fight. He then gained the orb attack thing (forgot the name) and the skeletal sentry in the second fight. In addition, his animations when initiating his second phase imply that he uses the hover plume to fly. The claw and the scicle are available immidiatly, the hover plume can be bought after mole knight, the skeletal sentry was after phantom striker i believe, and the orb was after propeller knight. The rest, i can't remember. However, i am like 99 percent certain that either the spider scythe or the bouncing soul are only unlocked after king knight. So, what's the timeline here? Idk. It's too late in the evening for me to actually piece everything together. I have to do some more research on this anyways.

The spider scythe is from Polar and the bouncing soul is from Plague Knight. The hover plume is from Treasure Knight stage. Specter can use the skeleton sentry in the first battle (czcams.com/video/tSt6V5x43aE/video.html), is probable he have defeated Phantom Striker already, who is discovered by King Knight wandering in Lich Yard (In the ending of Specter of Torment, he is the last stand of the town, even though he was defeated earlier by Specter). An important thing to note is that the green rain from the tower of fate constantly present in Shovel of Hope/Plague of Shadows, begins to occur in the middle of one of the last stages of Specter of torment, and don't exists in King of Cards until the ending. I don't know if the enchantress starts and ends the rain between the campaings.

However, Pridemoor Keep (King Knight), Lich Yard (Phantom Strker), Explodatorium (Plague Knight), Iron Whale (Treasure Knight), and Flying Machine (Propeller Knight) are not animated, indicating that those areas have not been cleared. This is supported by other parts of the ending, as well. Mole Knight, Tinker Knight, and Polar Knight are the only ones seen accepting the invitation (with Black Knight stalking them), and their areas are also the only cleared ones. Then, if we add this all together, Plague was somewhat acting in allegiance to The Order Of No Quarter, following the Enchantress' and King Knight's orders, Propeller was also acting in allegiance as well, because King Knight said he wanted every Joustus card shredded, and the King of Cards contest cancelled, so Propeller Knight was acting with a similar motive, by destroying the Airship where it's taking place. Plague Knight was also acting in allegiance, via destroying the House of Joustus.

It was so sad when in the end while congratulating him on his kingdom his mom called him "king knight" for the first time , you could feel the disappointment in her voice even through text is so oof.

Well it wasn't like Polar Knight held it against him, not to mention, how many times have we killed those griffoths in Pridemoor Keep? Did they really die, or does King Pridemoor ONLY care about Plume and Beaky?
When you get right down to it, every one of the knights played a highly invaluable role in shaping the Valley. Shovel Knight quartered the order and freed Shield Knight from The Enchantress, Plague Knight leveled the Tower of Fate to the ground, Specter Knight not only assembled the order but was singlehandedly responsible for allowing The Enchantress to come into being and, had things gone differently, likely would have been possessed by The Amulet himself. We might not know the full story of the other knights, but I guarantee you that each one holds rich secrets unto themself, with Polar Knight in particular showing strong signs of this.
Keep in mind that each campaign is a retelling of the story from the perspective of each respective knight. King knight may not have been as good as his campaign makes him appear to be (though I wish it were like that)
I love the ending scene where the Phantom Striker traps ghosts in the Hall of Champions. The subtitle is "Fencing in phantoms," which is literal because the phantoms are being herded in, but the Phantom Striker's weapon of choice is a foil, the weapon used in the sport known as *fencing.*
That ending made me want both a Monster Hunter esc game for Treasure Knight where he hunts down and captures colossal sea creatures and gets BANK while doing it. And a RPG with Polar Knight; Tinker Knight, Mole Knight, and Black Knight

So far this is the theory i got from all of the stories : Shovel Knight : just like every heroes on the story, nothing much except stopping evil Plaque Knight : a scientist-like knight that tried to get a potion from the Enchantress to show off to his girlfriend Spectre Knight : a reincarnation of Donovan who have to join the Order of No Quarter to save his friend's son Black Knight : a messenger trying to stop everyone from joining the Order of No Quarter by entering Enchantress's palace King Knight : a greedy bastard who only wants wealth and power Proppeler Knight : an air commander who holds a grudge on Cooper for some reason That's all for now
I think propeller knights beef with cooper is that he wants all the airspace under his control and sees cooper's airship as a rival. Probably doesn't even bother thinking him a waste of time until King Knight accidentally steals his rose
I never really thought about the ages of the knights. I'd assumed they were all grown men, and that King Knight was just a man-child. I'd never considered the possibility that he's just a kid, but there's nothing that disproves it.

King Knight took out 3 monarchs, 2 dragons, a tank, an entire order of knights, and a literal cosmic entity with his bare hands so if he wants a kingdom he’s damn well deserved it
Possibly this became my favorite DLC, excellent level design, very generous content, possibly the coolest and most useful repertoire of shovel Knigth weapons, an entertaining card game a story that works very well as a prequel, and in general I charm, good bosses, very good music, the truth I can think very few things that I did not like, and the end seems perfect. Lol seems that some did not like the end, what did they expect? if they paid attention to the character's way of being, it would have been super out of character that he became good or something, besides he is not a hero is an antagonist and a very well written one, I liked the story more than Specter's sums up in: "I killed my friend for literally no reason" If you take into account, before he was king he was very strong, he managed to defeat all the knights, the 3 kings, etc. He defeated Specter twice, and finally he achieved that he always wanted on the basis of being a "traitor" (although he probably never felt anything for his "friends") and after that he began to be defeated only, Specter Knigth beat him, Shovel knigth beat him twice, and finally He ended up having less than at the beginning, at the end of everything. Ironically it was worse being king than when he pretended to be one
I do like all the ways they make the Order of No Quarter bosses more interesting either in fight, or the way they're encountered. Specter: Mostly completely different battle due to not having his powers, although he does turn into the fight we see in other campaigns in the second fight. Plague: You do just normally encounter him but you have to fight Percy before Plague Knight and Percy even shows up again in Plague's clone attack. Treasure: The fight with him is disguised as a treasure level, which actually does make thematic sense considering Treasure Knight wanted to bait a fish. The scroll up to his fight and him instantly grabbing King Knight had me pretty surprised. Mole: The encounter on the map and fight play out normally but the fight starting because King Knight accidentally drilled into the tub is pretty funny. Polar: During the fight you have to fight the Spindruff's Polar Knight's been training with, and King Knight kills every one of them, the monster. Propeller: After getting the rose, when you go to the Glidewing he starts invading with his minions. I like how he's still let on the Glidewing to play Joustus despite destroying part of it. Tinker: actually is there change I don't notice it I alsi find it funny that the prequel versions of the fights have more tricks than later in Shovel and Plague's campaign.
King Knight’s moveset feels so much more awkward than the other three main story knights to me. But I suppose that makes sense, he’s just some weirdo cosplaying and larping a knight king Edit: He loves dogs?! Man’s not so bad after all.
I actually agree with the Enchantress, a king should act not cower behind a champion. King Pridemoor could have repaired his armor, therefore the two of the could tag team against the Enchantress, and chose to flirt with King Knight's mother instead

King of Cards and Specter of Shadows were really unique, because unlike Plague of Shadows, they had different bosses and new places, but I think the first place goes to Specter of Shadows, the scenery and Mechanics are really cool and feel amazing.
King knight is a good fighter but what he lacks is intelligence, has a goal that he accomplished but failed in being a good ruler and inevitably falling from grace and working for a man he betrayed.
My brain: for your ability to beat mega Cardinia without taking any damage and using heirlooms only twice in the battle ( serious how do you do that), I hereby title you: the ultimate gamer.

The backers for the kickstarter campaign got to vote for 3 additional campaigns with the various knights pitted against one another, plague knight won the first poll and beat out Mole and Tinker, Specter beat out the black knight and Frost and King Beat out Propeller Knight and Treasure knight.

And as much interesting would be to have that in Black Knight's perspective, it wouldn't be interesting in gameplay since Black Knight is literally Shovel Knight with a few different moves and upgrades (hence why Specter took out the spot for him with his unique gameplay mechanics.)

When you get right down to it, every one of the knights played a highly invaluable role in shaping the Valley. Shovel Knight quartered the order and freed Shield Knight from The Enchantress, Plague Knight leveled the Tower of Fate to the ground, Specter Knight not only assembled the order but was singlehandedly responsible for allowing The Enchantress to come into being and, had things gone differently, likely would have been possessed by The Amulet himself. We might not know the full story of the other knights, but I guarantee you that each one holds rich secrets unto themself, with Polar Knight in particular showing strong signs of this.

gotta admit, enchantress had a point, king knight's doing more kingly stuff than the actual kings are, at least in his campaign.
Keep in mind that each campaign is a retelling of the story from the perspective of each respective knight. King knight may not have been as good as his campaign makes him appear to be (though I wish it were like that)

I love the ending scene where the Phantom Striker traps ghosts in the Hall of Champions. The subtitle is "Fencing in phantoms," which is literal because the phantoms are being herded in, but the Phantom Striker's weapon of choice is a foil, the weapon used in the sport known as *fencing.*
That ending made me want both a Monster Hunter esc game for Treasure Knight where he hunts down and captures colossal sea creatures and gets BANK while doing it. And a RPG with Polar Knight; Tinker Knight, Mole Knight, and Black Knight
Okay that idea for Treasure actually sounds cool as hell.

Shovel Knight : just like every heroes on the story, nothing much except stopping evil
Plaque Knight : a scientist-like knight that tried to get a potion from the Enchantress to show off to his girlfriend
Spectre Knight : a reincarnation of Donovan who have to join the Order of No Quarter to save his friend's son
Black Knight : a messenger trying to stop everyone from joining the Order of No Quarter by entering Enchantress's palace
King Knight : a greedy bastard who only wants wealth and power
Proppeler Knight : an air commander who holds a grudge on Cooper for some reason

I think propeller knights beef with cooper is that he wants all the airspace under his control and sees cooper's airship as a rival. Probably doesn't even bother thinking him a waste of time until King Knight accidentally steals his rose

I never really thought about the ages of the knights. I'd assumed they were all grown men, and that King Knight was just a man-child. I'd never considered the possibility that he's just a kid, but there's nothing that disproves it.

King Knight’s story definitely feels more Wario-like than I initially thought
King Knight took out 3 monarchs, 2 dragons, a tank, an entire order of knights, and a literal cosmic entity with his bare hands so if he wants a kingdom he’s damn well deserved it
And he got beaten up by a fish with a shovel
Possibly this became my favorite DLC, excellent level design, very generous content, possibly the coolest and most useful repertoire of shovel Knigth weapons, an entertaining card game a story that works very well as a prequel, and in general I charm, good bosses, very good music, the truth I can think very few things that I did not like, and the end seems perfect. Lol seems that some did not like the end, what did they expect? if they paid attention to the character's way of being, it would have been super out of character that he became good or something, besides he is not a hero is an antagonist and a very well written one, I liked the story more than Specter's sums up in: "I killed my friend for literally no reason" If you take into account, before he was king he was very strong, he managed to defeat all the knights, the 3 kings, etc. He defeated Specter twice, and finally he achieved that he always wanted on the basis of being a "traitor" (although he probably never felt anything for his "friends") and after that he began to be defeated only, Specter Knigth beat him, Shovel knigth beat him twice, and finally He ended up having less than at the beginning, at the end of everything. Ironically it was worse being king than when he pretended to be one
I do like all the ways they make the Order of No Quarter bosses more interesting either in fight, or the way they're encountered.
Specter: Mostly completely different battle due to not having his powers, although he does turn into the fight we see in other campaigns in the second fight.
Plague: You do just normally encounter him but you have to fight Percy before Plague Knight and Percy even shows up again in Plague's clone attack.
Treasure: The fight with him is disguised as a treasure level, which actually does make thematic sense considering Treasure Knight wanted to bait a fish. The scroll up to his fight and him instantly grabbing King Knight had me pretty surprised.
Mole: The encounter on the map and fight play out normally but the fight starting because King Knight accidentally drilled into the tub is pretty funny.
Polar: During the fight you have to fight the Spindruff's Polar Knight's been training with, and King Knight kills every one of them, the monster.
Propeller: After getting the rose, when you go to the Glidewing he starts invading with his minions. I like how he's still let on the Glidewing to play Joustus despite destroying part of it.
Tinker: actually is there change I don't notice it
I alsi find it funny that the prequel versions of the fights have more tricks than later in Shovel and Plague's campaign.
I love how the ONLY time King Knight is the smart one, is his encounter with Baz.

I love Gellot because even though he has a bunch of these tools in all the different games he plays, he just uses the basic attack.
He used the Flame Slash against Specter and the dashing staff attack against Polar, though.

I know Joustus seems to have been inspired by Triple Triad but now we have Giga Cardia going all Ultimecia on us.
King of Cards and Specter of Shadows were really unique, because unlike Plague of Shadows, they had different bosses and new places, but I think the first place goes to Specter of Shadows, the scenery and Mechanics are really cool and feel amazing.

The backers for the kickstarter campaign got to vote for 3 additional campaigns with the various knights pitted against one another, plague knight won the first poll and beat out Mole and Tinker, Specter beat out the black knight and Frost and King Beat out Propeller Knight and Treasure knight.

@@murasakibebeby3127 Well the entire series are based on the events since The Enchantress has appeared, and given Shield Knight was possessed by her it wouldn't be possible to line up the story with that. And as much interesting would be to have that in Black Knight's perspective, it wouldn't be interesting in gameplay since Black Knight is literally Shovel Knight with a few different moves and upgrades (hence why Specter took out the spot for him with his unique gameplay mechanics.)
