Im beginning to think that Mort has a twin. They both play different games and have the same voice, because this guy is a gaming powerhouse.
Love your videos for this, my most hyped game for sure.
I'm so stoked for this...
This was the one I was waiting for!
Question: are the colonies vulnerable? My recollection from playing the TTRPG many years ago is that colonies were very vulnerable and would frequently get destroyed by xenos, rebellion, and stuff like that. Which feels very realistic: it's easy to see how you would get 4 Roanokes for every Jamestown in a setting like this.
Kinda. I know we can get “defenses” by certain events for it but I haven’t had my colonies get attacked yet.
I haven't see any outpost actually be attacked in any way that wasn't directly related to the main story, they all have a 'security' rating but that stuff seems to just affect secondary things like how much profit factor is being sent your way.
@@MortismalGaming I think you are right.
I vaguely recall from the beta, the game was monitoring how many people were living on the void ship. And like you can send a detachment to help securing a planet. But overall it did not feel like a resource to manage. Has that changed?
Great info!
That's a cool system. I'm always looking for ways to reward players with stuff other than gold. At some point you have more you could ever spend and still not get the cool thing you wanted.
How much more complex this game can get (in a good way!)? It starts to feel like a game within game within game 😁
Damn, really expected the commerce system to have more meat on it
'Rogue Trader' name is missleading...Rogue Trader run their own trade empires kinda like the East India Company irl.
The trade is mostly abstract for the 'rogue trader' at galactic scale.
@@command_unit7792 suck abstractly on these
Yeah, abstract. The TTRPG abstracts this to Profit Factor, which has its mirror in the Owlcat game, so you (a) do kinda care and want to improve your PF for certain benefits [and to provide story hooks] and (b) also don't care since the personal, hands-on stuff on your ship and on planets/etc of the Expanse is where table time should be spent.
Sorry, they were to busy adding in "romance" NPCs.
@@command_unit7792Yeah, it could still be better than this.
Believe it or not, but the "trade" part of being a rogue trader is important.
Good show sir
Interesting. Is this kind of a radiant/endless system? or more empire-building? I am interested in the sandbox elements of this game and its potential for open ended gameplay.
Love your videos on this, really looking forward to the game. Are you going to start posting build/class videos soon?
Probably not, I think doing that without having the full game in my hands would be a waste of time
Get to role play a Ferengi? POG! Onward to 300k. All glory to the algorithm.
To be honest i'm happy that the system seems less complicate and demanding than the pathfinder ones. I want something fun that i like to play a bit between missions, not something that needs hours of investment/micromanagement and bland fights/events to see 100% of the game.
i liked the crusade one the first time in wrath of the righteous, but every other game it was just a drag.
Agreed. I would have liked to see more innovation, but it being less intrusive is a good start
Yeah the system is pretty cumbersome imo, it took me a long while to understand the buying/selling and cargo stuff when I played the demo a few months back
Thanks!
and thank you!
I was hoping you would explain the Empire management because i have played the game through (Alpha/Beta) about a half dozen times and I'm still not sure I understand it.
Interesting.
I hope they've seriously iproved this cargo system.
Don't get me wrong, the idea of this is great and I've enjoyed it aswell.
BUT:
Imperial Navy vendor reputation grind was rough, due to the fact that you could loose a lot of cargo % if you just dump ship salvage into cargo, you'll get 120% cargo units.
I had to manually combine all the parts to get more cargo units closer to 100%
And as far as I recall it there wasn't any option to transform back the already made cargo packs. But now, based on your video you can remove parts/components from the existing tradeable cargo packs.
That is HUGE, I'm really happy to see this changed. I just hope this way we could max out the navy vendor until the end of ACT III.
(I've almost made it during the beta, almost did every battle, one was bugged out and 0 enemies spawned, becouse of this there weren't enough salvage to reach max rep)
The sooner this releases on Steam, the better!
I am so happy with how they handled all of this thank you owlcat for this masterpiece!!!!!!
I can't stand to watch all those videos, this is torture !.... Yet i cannot look away !😭
Then, is direct currency needed to buy gear for yourself and your companions? Or does that simply become available to trade by building your profit factor to minimum thresholds?
Everything uses profit factor there is no other currency
I wonder how long it takes to beat the main story? Or can you divert from the mainstory and play for as long as you want.
The Beta was easily 60hrs. And that had none of the final 2 acts. You can't ignore the main quest. But there is plenty of random exploration and side content to find.
@@shawngillogly6873 oh ok cool thanks
@@shawngillogly6873From one perspective that's amazing, so much content, but from another, damn, I already spent so much time on giant games this year I don't know if I want to start another.
i put 40 hours into just act 2 alone. around 120 hours into the beta and that was just one run of the beta, which is near enough half the game. so its a big game
@@ronuss wow.
Misread 'Drusians' as 'Horusians' for a moment there.
Could've made for a really spice playthrough tbf.
Can you cascade the rep/trade system? Like, once you hit a new rep level, shouldn't you just acquire everything and then trade away the things from it you don't want? Also, do the rep traders restock? If so, is that based on the passage of time or quest progress?
From what I recall, yes, you can cascade the rep system (and I think this is intended). I don't recall whether or not they restock, however. Then again, I found so much good loot, I didn't really need to buy much from them.
Somewhat, the inventory is fairly limited and very little actually restocks (only like medkits etc)
@@MortismalGaming Thanks. What about offensive consumables, like grenades? And what determines restock time? Time passing? Quest progressing, like kingdom turns in kingmaker?
@@jmvbento All the consumables are able to restock, dunno how long though.
How "open" is the game after the main story ends? (I haven't bought it yet.)
Should you scoop up everything available to you with each trader once unlocked by rep; re: clean out their inventory? Is there any down side to taking everything your reputation allows to?
Its unlikely youll be able to max them all out, but otherwise yeah grab everything that isnt nailed down and turn it back into cargo if you arent going to use it
@@MortismalGaming Exactly the answer I was looking for. Thank you for taking the time brother.
This seems much smaller game than Pathfinder. Not a bad thing but I just love 40k so I wished the same level :)
I agree, sometimes smaller is better 😊
owlcat said its around the same size as wotr
I've played the beta, and I left with the feeling, that resources are supposed to accumulate over time, but didn't, cause, well, beta. But I'm not so sure still. Any thoughts, fellas?
I honestly didn't get that vibe; it seems like the resources don't just reflect single one-off costs, but ongoing ones- e.g. trading 10 People Resources ™ to 'personnel specialists' reflects a steady trade in people, which is why the Profit Factor you gain is permanent. I'm guessing we'll be making some hard choices as to what we spend our resources for.
is the game openworld and are you able to roam freely without consequence throughout the world or are you time-gated to do certain things by a certain time
I have the same question but I think unfortunately it's the latter.
No its not an open world, and yeah at least in the first few acts I dont know about the last two
once you get to act 2, think wotr where you can go about ur business on the open map and pick and choose where you want to go, ext. in the beta i got lost on the star map and couldn't find the next main mission planet and ended up doing a bunch of random stuff for hours. i felt that was pretty open tbh@@philippos5547
Question I CANNOT GET AN ANSWER TO, hopefully this 7 month old comment section helps somehow:
How do restocks work? I bought out every sellers inventory like 8 times, no issues, quick restocks. Now, it's been FOREVER since anything replenished. So far I've read that they might refresh without any added information, been gaslit that they can't refresh and never did, and if anyone actually knows how this works that would be great
So I don't really know what I wanna hear, this game looks dope surface level, cus ive barely seen anything of it, but I guess what I'd like to know is, as someone who plays alot of these types of games, what would this game need to change to become your favorite game of all time?, if it's not already, in this genre specifically.
Well they would need to be a bit more faithful to the source material. They specifically set it in the Koronus Expanse, but failed to include any of the unique minor xeno races.
Also the lack of military and government management bothers me. Rogue Trader would have been better off as a CK2 clone than a PF Kingmaker clone.
Gronk!
Sorry, but if I can't manage a fleet and armies what's the point?
is there respond from author? i wanna know how about jrpg on this channel and Tjrpg.
How do you evaluate the game for the moment ? Nice, good, great, masterpiece ? 😊
I don't think he is allowed to say anything about the state of the game.
@@m-w29 He already said what he thinks of the current state in another video. Essentially his only concern at this point is the content that remains unreleased (the last 2 acts).
@@shawngillogly6873
Maybe, but he is still limited to what he can say. That's how things usually go for a pre-release of the game from a creator before it actually releases. I haven't watched his other videos because I want to go in totally blind so I can't what he said or didn't.
@m-w29 He's done videos on that subject too. If that was the case, he wouldn't talk about the game.
I already talked about it in the overview video I made first, just have to see how the last bit comes together. As for being able to talk about it, I can of course or these videos wouldnt be getting made. If they give me a review copy with the rest of the game then I wouldnt be able to comment on that until a set date most likely.
Still going to feel a bit odd that we own multiple planets, but end up finding that vendor in mid game who sells some overpriced high tier piece of gear that we somehow can't afford with what we have in our pockets. Anyway, will be interesting to play around with this for at least one playthrough.
From my own experience with the early versions, the real bottleneck is going to be reputation- there's more than enough PF in the game to afford some of the higher-end equipment in monetary terms, and basic equipment is so plentiful you'll never have a shortage of it unless you're actively trying to hurt yourself.
It's not a question of what you have in your pockets. It's a matter of whether you have enough clout to convince them to trade.
@@shawngillogly6873 is right. Rouge Traders are rich enough that they don't count if they have enough gold to pay for a thing, but if their enterprise is robust and profitable enough that they can get the thing without seriously impacting overall flow of cash.
Think of it this way: I have two meltaguns, I get two more next year. Do I sell one to this trader now or save them for that Inquisitor that rolls about in their personal Lunar Cruiser?
When money isn't an object, clout is.
Balam Industries sponsored field trip.
I don’t get why CRPGs have to have these systems all the time. At best they are, as you phrased it w crusade mode, not bothering me. Poe1s keep buildings, poe2s pirate ship, kingmakers kingdom management, wotrs crusade, dos 1/2 super bloated crafting system. I wish they could stay a bit more on target in these games
I think these systems are necessary to elevate those games from mere stories to play through to actual roleplaying worlds to "live" in. You actually "own" a part of that world, you are not just a guy who exists in it.
@@CommanderRionThat is potentially true for Owlcats games but there has to be a better more lightweight way. I seriously doubt that ship battles and trade empire management will be the selling point for this game :D
newbie to this game. how is it for a newbie. and i’m also getting releams of sigma today on ps5.
lots of difficulty options and you have custom as well, can change it any time ext. if ur new to the world of 40k as well then it has a huge index to explain any terms ur confused about.
@@ronuss i’m trying sigma tonight. so will see this isn’t out on ps5
What is the price?
Don't know yet
I know little to nothing about Warhammer 40k, but I'm a RPG vet. The little I do know is that all the factions are essentially 'evil' or 'evil-adjacent'. As an always do-gooder in RPGs, I'd love some input as to the least evil faction/style I could look to play in this game. I understand that might be a reach in this universe, but I figured I would at least ask.
You can be a more or less good person via one of the conviction paths, but yeah there are no real good guys in this setting.
@@MortismalGaming Thanks, Mortym. I figured as much. Sometimes it hurts to be good. Keep up the good work, bro. You helped make Pathfinder:WoTR my favorite game - tied with Witcher 3 - ever. Learning pathfinder took a bit, but you made it comprehensible and straightforward, and even more fun/comprehensible than standard. I'm WAY older than you as a gamer (used to program BASIC games on my Commodore 64), but I truly respect YOUR respect and contribution to the genre. Hats off, my friend.
the only thign i'm wondering is if it's possible to break away from the imperium and actually become an eldar ally. I really want a game where we play as craftworlders or t'au as main characters.
Eldar presence in the Koronus Expanse is rather limited, and there are exactly zero T'au in the Koronus Expanse, at least, if they're sticking to the setting established by the tabletop RPG this game is based on. No Tyranids either. The major Xenos in the Expanse are Eldar Corsairs, Ork Freebooters, and Necrons. Other major Xenos presence are Stryxis, and some Felinid-like humanoids. Oh and the entire population of Fenksworld might as well be xenos.
To me, it sounds like Owlcat has said you have basically three paths: Imperium loyalist, Chaos Devotee, or genuinely morally good person. That last path could easily lead to you becoming the Imperium's enemy if you aren't careful.
I'm planning on playing a character who sees through the Imperium's bullshit, and who wants to do the right thing, but who is smart enough to be cautious about that and not openly defy the Imperium.
I'm also really curious to see just how far you can go in a non-loyalist direction. Possibly very far, if this game is anything like WotR.
@@user-rx2ur5el9p Quite far :)
@@loksoraldarkwatcher9598There are Nids, but you have to go through a secret gate.
@@loksoraldarkwatcher9598 Fenksworld is in the Calixis Sector, though
few questions
1. how many colonies (outside of main story) can player have
2. can all colony projects be completed
3. are there any projects that can affect story in any way
4. any system for laws and regulations for our trade empire
As far as I know, main story missions are the only way to get proper colonies. You get 3 or 4 in the current streamer version of the game (so the 3 acts out of 5)
1. 5 In what I have access too, not sure about later
2. No
3. Won't know until I've seen the last two acts
4. Just what you see here
@@MortismalGaming that sounds sad and limited
thanks for info but now i'm even more worried for release
December 7th can't come fast enough.
I had hoped managing the colonies was a kind of a mini game in it self.
free comment.
I'm not a big fan of these type of management systems usually, I hated Kingmaker kingdom management for example which actually made me drop the game entirely. I hope this one will be less intrusive and less time consuming 😅. Having said that, I'm excited to play the game at release !
Why did you not switch it off
@@artydean9892 When I started my playthrough I wanted to have the full experience, so I let it as is. But the more I played, the more I felt exhausted by the system, and I just didn't feel anymore fun with it, so instead of putting it to Auto mode, I just switched to something else. I think at the time I started playing Tyranny instead (which I enjoyed quite a lot 🤩)
@@Izemrasen. I'm loving tyranny ATM just started it. I've heard it's pretty short yhough
@@artydean9892 Tyranny is my favorite game from Obsidian, shorter than Pathfinder games for sure but many possible outcomes and good replayability. I specially loved the setup and the skill/magic system. Enjoy it 👍
@Izemrasen. I do like the set up I'm surprised other games don't have a similar ser up
For the algorithm!
Mooooooorrrtiiiasmaalllllll!!!
Is there a what we would call a "legendary gear" in Rogue Trader setting? It would be hard for me to get used to if its not in... like legendary bolter or armor, super powerful and unique items are basically a cornerstone of pretty much any RPG game that had items system in it. Disco Elysium is the only RPG than comes to mind than had item system, and did not had item quality tiers, just clothing with bonuses, but ofc Disco Elysium is not exactly the same type of RPG game :) On the other hand its WH40k, it feels different from typical fantasy or sci-fi universes... not like we can steal Emperors Armor or something like it. Wonder how its going to work...
Gear that rogue traders(and Inquisitors) can get are some of the best in the universe.
The quality and characteristics of equipment can depend on many things(its age, maker and the resources used to produce it)For example there was a power sword that was basically a lightsaber in the Gaunts ghosts books that was an old relic of a long dead hero.
There are sure to be rare weapons we could find or very expensive ones we could buy.
In the alpha and beta, there are more than enough Cool Items™ to equip your characters, no worries. I can only assume the increased itemization in the release will only add to your choice in bling and bang-bang.
another video.............. ow go on then...... you spoil me
Oh no... Not more management! I don't want to play a light management sim in between my CRPG sessions... Those were the worst part of Kingmaker and WotR.
Yeah I will ignore it for the most part, owlcats extra management systems are really not fun but busy work. The kingdom management was ok, the crusade system was awful and I really don't expect this system to be any more fun.
