Kanami must have fallen into a pot of magic potion as a child. She can't compose a bad song.
The woman is a bloody genius.
歌波は天性の作曲家でしかも表現できるGuitaristですね。
She would have had great fun taking the place of the Bard in Asterix to the uncontrolled glee of the Gauls beating up the Romans' asses to the sound of her music! LOL
Kanami is an elf with magic powers. Further question are prohibited.
Thank you MIKU for creating BandMaid🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽💯
LMAO it comes with "Play" back to back. The old intro for Play was literal fire! The new one is no slouch either.

Saiki the singer voice so strong here
Mincho & Misa getting some😉. Play is one of my favorites! Guitar and Bass singing back to each other
Dude, the Day of the Maid into to play, I’m going to have to go watch that again now.
🤙🏼
Misa is by far the best bass player I've heard since John Entwistle. Fight me. 😁
I cannot fight you on a point that is fundamentally correct.
The bass line after guitar solo melts your soul.
"Take Me Higher" is the song I would use to introduce them to my friends. "Play" is the one that made me a Maidiac.
Wouldn't "Take Me Higher" remind your friends of when their relatives were dragged up in a trawler net?
@@GaryHolloway-810 I'm estranged from my family. Bunch a shit-eaters, they are.
@@crabuki1273 Lol. You are a Great Giant Crabuki indeed :)
About Miku: appreciate that she can play rhythm (many times syncopated) and sing high or low harmony when needed. She also writes lyrics to Kanami's instrumentals. She is just as talented in her own way as her band mates.
F*** yeah, to this day still my 2 favorites
I see it not as a “battle” or “dual,” but an eloquent call and response. Misa makes a statement and Kanami delivers a reply, again and again.
I wish these videos hadn't have been taken down. The sound is so much better than the Feb 14 2020 show. You can actually hear the guitars in these older shows.
As for the band that shall not be named, it seems that they kind of popular over there Kanami obviously listens to them and Hazuki from Nemophila is routinely seen sporting a "band not to be named" shirt. They even did a cover
😁😁
So imagine this for a moment. This video of "Play" was my introduction to Band-Maid! Talk about jaw on the floor, quite a few expletives and instant love of this band. A new Band-Maidiac was born. Or would it be hatched? (Thinking of Miku po!)
There's a Band-Maid song called "Clang" but it's impossible to find the concert recording of it. It is one my top 5 favorites but I don't know why they haven't re-released it. As one person said on a reaction video (when it was available) it's the type of song that if you listen to it in the car you're going to get a speeding ticket! 😂😂
Here's a link to just an audio version.
czcams.com/video/4mSEQ4Qae4Y/video.html
I had a similar experience with Play
czcams.com/video/lLm0ZS2oTj8/video.html
I first saw Thrill, and I thought "cool little rock song". Then I came across Play live version and I immediately turned into a rabid Maidiac.
@@michaelmunno I've seen this fan cam video and it's probably the best one I've seen. Would be nice to have the original concert recording though.
Clang live,,the good recording is on bilbili.
OMG, a funky slap bass and classic rock guitar call and response solo??!!?? That was superb!!!!
A couple of inadvertent things happens, Ryan, when Miku stops playing to sing leads or backup vocals. I say inadvertent because it originally happened in the early days of Band-Maid (like Thrill) when she was not capable of doing both at the same time: 1) It leaves space for her (and Saiki's) vocals, and 2), it brings a dynamic to the music that wouldn't be there if she played across her singing parts. Of course now as she's gotten pretty damn great, she plays many times while singing.
But this unintentional rhythm guitar drop-out adds a dynamic, especially when she comes back in, that she still employs and is now part of Band-Maid's signature "live" sound. Since Kanami still plays her guitar parts when recording, you don't hear it as much as with their live performances. I actually prefer the dropped guitar because it reduces the wall of sound that can occur when 2-4 "full-on Kanami" guitar parts are in play on their albums.
Knew you would like this one. Take Me Higher was the song that clinched my love of Band Maid. Well done Sir.
Aaaaah.....back to back JOY, tickling rocker souls....everywhere !!! ❤🤘😎 I need a Wonderland reaction. Mr Ryan.
My favorite thing about Take Me Higher on the record is the guitar solo, which is completely different to the bass/lead conversation here. Give it a listen, it's kind of spheric, airy, hard to explain for me but I like it quite a bit.
When they play the song "Don't you tell ME" live they usually include a bass vs guitar battle. Sometimes Kanami will mess with MISA during the battle; she might play with her hair, touch her bass, or rest her head on her chest.
And is from the Zepp Concert not on this one.
@@robertbassham8514 oh, cool
The Zepp concert, by far, has the best sound quality; but Kanami tends to goof around more in smaller venues like Berlin & Amsterdam. Unfortunately the fan footage usually has terrible sound quality.
The answer to the trivia question: What would Band Maid do if given a Knucklehead riff? Answer: Make the song about 100 times better.
Sorry but you forgot a couple of zero 👍be well
One could say they took it higher. 😀
Oh God everybody thinks the band sounds like another band and all churches are the same because they all sing songs and have a pastor
It's literally the exact same riff.
@@RyanMear I think Kanami slightly changes the order of the chords.
What I like about this video is you can actually hear the guitars. They're not so muted like other videos.
Akane always backs up their solo's so well.
they're tour in the US should be 'fire' I hope so - so awesome
Houston HOB's. Can't wait
Take Me Higher is the Father of Flying High on Conqueror which is the father of Chemical Reaction on Unseen World, true story. That stupid Canucklehead band my have a similar riff but Kanami's sounds better. :) This song always gets me charged up and this version of Play is great for how clean and well mixed the sound is. The Shibuya version is all about the audience submitting to Saiki. :)
The intro in the Shibuya version is just so much better than this version.
@@billb.5183 for sure, but this version is so good for hearing the various instruments and Saiki's power stance at the beginning of the song when the flames shoot up.... gives me chills every time.
Awesome ok I know band maid did a cover song ,not sure I wanna say slipknot if not my bad but I would love for them to do a cover of godzilla by blue oyster cult the two most iconic super stars in Japan what you think?
@@starocean6013 they've done a few covers. They played SK's Duality as a warm up for Knotfest Japan, which was cancelled last year. They also did a cover of Mucc's 'Honey' on the World Domination album which is awesome. They have a history, when at festivals, of playing a song that belongs to the headliner during their warm up. They've done a cover of RHCP's Higher Ground as well... mind you these are just the instruments in the case of Duality and Higher Ground. The Mucc cover is the full song.
@@starocean6013 Only if we can get a gigantic godzilla wandering the stage during the song ala Iron Maidens Eddie lol.
PUZZLE - BAND MAID
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!!! 🥃🥃🥃 Take Me Higher is another favorite of mine with a nice "conversation " between Misa and Kanami.
@@xagorvangard It makes your ears burn but in a good way :)
@@xagorvangard we all benefit from listening in 😉
@@xagorvangard That's really clever. Wish i'd put it. Hang on is today reverse day?
@@GaryHolloway-810 lol
Oh man right after "Play" is Secret My Lips which is my favorite version of the song, which is a good listen
hi Ryan, I have no more words for these girls, I think and recommend to all new bands or those who want to start a new band, to listen and see Band Maid and understand and learn how to write a song. they don't miss a beat. i recommend the final song of this concert "The non Fiction Day" i think there you see the potential of this Band and how it pushes the whole Band.... one of their first hits, it was 2016.
I was thinking something like this the other day. Show one's bandmates some Band-Maid and say, "We need to be like THIS. Not in style or sound, but in work ethic, teamwork, and intelligence." And if somebody doesn't get it, they need to be replaced.
Miku's a pigeon, so I guess it makes sense that Kanami loves Animals 😉 I knew you'd love it. I'm glad the bass/guitar battle didn't get spoiled even if the intro did
Miku what is your wisdom:
There is no way out
it will be alright
Let go your mind
If you liked 'Take Me Higher' LIVE you'll love 'Don't You Tell Me' LIVE even more.
My all time fav B-M song & My all time fav Lead/bass conversation in one package. T Zero you are a genius :)
already left a link to "dont you tell me live" in my comment for him to check out. also suggested he check out the bass/ lead tapping intro for "clang "
@@frankgonzalez4853 Very cool. Cheers Frank :)
@@frankgonzalez4853 awesome!! Gary will be looking forward to the "conversation " between Misa and Kanami with Akane keeping those 2 moving along 😉
Absolutely 💯% correct 🤘🏼
I'm into Band Maid from Nov 2017. In that times I didn't normally see live videos in YT. This performance in Studio Coast literally blow my sockets off. I've never in my life have been listening to a mix like that. This is, from then, the benchmark of a live production.
Matchless Gum and Awkward are amazing songs from this same concert
Matchless GUM is my all time favorite Saiki performance. She really got into that song.
the live acoustic version of awkward is gorgeous. it is only Kanami and Saiki too bad there is no video i only have the audio of it.
Ryan, BAND-MAID never have guitar duels they're much too nice to fight with each other. They have guitar "Conversations".🙂
Agreed
The just made that "riff" better! Love Band-Maid.
Best duel is from the LIVE at Zepp version of "Don't You Tell ME!"...pure euphoria. (I think there are 2 LIVE versions of it..But only one has the duel.)
Perfect as always. Watching these ladies dominate the rock scene is one of the few joys in my life. So glad I found them. Such a great group of unique and talented ladies that know how to tweak your soul song after song. I very much enjoy the female rock bands of Japan, the music focus in Japanese schools is really paying off these days, the talent and skill level is amazing.
Take me Higher--one of their best songs. Classic straight-ahead rock, as it hasn't been done in the U.S. in decades.
Holy sick that slap
This was awesome 🖤 so happy I caught it before going to bed.
You're great Ryan, I really enjoy listening to Band-Maid with you.
Rock on Po! 🕊️🤘🖤
The Duel everyone is talking about is in 'Don't You Tell Me', but this is good too ;) You forgot that MISA plays 'Thrill' without a pick at all ;) The guitar mix on this is far superior to the Shibuya one ;) Also, you forgot to mention that Saiki is an absolute Rock Star on this :D
Watching their live footages is always a treat. You can't take your ears off your headphones.
Miku got a good guitar sensei... Its Kanami hahahahaha
Please "Dont you tell me" live. One of the five best bridges in rock history. The battle of Misa and Kanami! it's so awesome that they just made a separate YT video for the bridge part with 12 "reactions"
The concert this video is from is just pure fire! By about the third song they had gotten "warmed up" and entered the "zone". For the rest of the show they performed at a level all bands dream about. 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
Agreed my favorite live show of the band I have seen
Miku was so great in Take Me Higher. It's been fun watching her improve with every album.MISA has some nice finger style bass lines in their "About Us" live video.
It’s been forever since I’ve seen these back to back. Thank you. Thank you.
Saiki --- LORD, that voice! That VOICE!! :D
"Don't You Tell Me" live at Zepp Tokyo 2018. That live performance is truly a classic if you appreciate dual solos between the bass and lead guitarists.
It is the best "conversation " between Misa and Kanami 🤙🏼
Great!
Good grief how did they do that, that was insane
One of my favorite parts of Play is how Akane changes the drum pattern as the song progresses...
I having fun watching and listening to the music of Band Maid with you .
The tone of Miku's guitar is so good in this :-)
For a second I thought I had my earphones on the wrong way hearing Kanami on the left. Someone managed to put the soundtrack upsidedown LOL
The best that can be said of this video,"the Wah-wah conquers all".
Kanami best Kirk Hammet impression.
Hanmett should take lessons from Mincho on the use of the Wah pedal!
@@RyanMear amazing that Kirk was never arrested for Wah Abuse.
I had a row once in the comments with a fan of "The band that shall not be named". I celebrated my victory with "NB better than B-M, PER-LEEEZE don't make me laugh".

This version of "Take Me Higher" was the song that got me hooked on Band Maid when I first discovered them about 2 years ago. Still one of my favorite songs.
I don’t know why but whenever I hear Kanami play I think about Adam Jones from TOOL, he rarely solo’s and when he does it’s short and to the point, like Kanami, they both don’t need to because of the chord progressions they use in each song and the many changes and key changes! Genius!
Another good reaction, enjoyed it thoroughly. Looking forward to your next reaction.
Wow, 100k! Congrats!
Thanks, I just saw that yesterday!
Great reaction thanks mate.
One of most favorite Band-Maid moments occurs during "Play" during the transition from the intro to the opening notes of the song. Miku does an exaggerated half-windmill. You see it for an instant, but it's a great piece of showmanship. For someone who was only playing guitar for maybe 4 years to feel that confident is pretty cool. She's not standing still and fretting over which next chord to strum, nope, she's acting like a rockstar up on that stage. (Of course by the next tour or so, Miku nabs the intro's solo spot from Kanami; I would love a "Play" live EP with all the different intros they've done).
Miku and Kanami have done the slide/tapping thing in a few songs, "Manners" for instance". They do it differently in different songs, but the one they do in "Take Me Higher" is the one I like best.
Don't worry about the "tainted riff", Kanami's taking it back. It belongs to her now.
Also, when Kanami and MISA are doing any of their solos, it's great to listen to the drums as well. Akane's setting a real scene with what she's doing there.
Akane is simply astounding
When Kanami hits that Wah Wah pedal you just know shit’s getting real!
Two of my FAVOURITE BM tunes; the ladies are firing on all cylinders here…!
Brilliant song, one of my favorites.. More do's on your to do list.. Hint Hint.. Lol Best wishes from France..
Sometimes I wonder how many spare drums Akane takes with her on tour. Her drums have a limited lifetime or they’re made of kevlar.
I've heard they're rented...so after the show not her problem? Lol
aMaidzing....yeah i can stand behind that^^ no matter how often i see some vids of them or listen to their stuff they always make smile and feel better
Being a rhythm guitarist maybe relatively easy in other bands, but not easy in band-maid. Me thinking.
"Take Me Higher" has another of my fav lead/bass conversations. You can never have enough MISA, unless you have 5 daughters all called MISA. Then that would probably be enough.
@ Haha. Omg & hairbrushes. You wouldn't have a pension when you retire :)
😂
@@GaryHolloway-810 it's ok my Sister has 4 Girls and 1 Boy so she was able to scrape by but sadly could NOT make a Band-Maid tribute Band
@@DavidMISAMISAMISACook I guess her son could grow his hair long, straighten it, dye it black & wear a Maid costume. But that's a lot of trouble to go to :)
@@GaryHolloway-810 lol his hair is longer than MISA's but no he would not wear a maid uniform, his eerm partner/wife (not sure if they are married) would object don't get on with her think she is bad for my nephew but what can you do.
Both of these are so good, this is the 3rd or 4th intro into Play that I have heard so far and loss for words, just blew my mind.
Take me higher is another one of my favorites... top 5 worthy for me! Thanks for another awesome video!
that filthy bass jaw drop.... misa is the assassin
ARIGATO for the good good choice!! BANDMAID has many good songs. Please watch the other good songs.
"TURN ME ON"(live), "CLANG"(live), "DON'T YOU TELL ME"(live), "MATCHLESS GUM"(live), CHOOSE ME"(live).

"PUZZLE(acoustic live), "DAYDREAMING(live, MV), "AWKWARD"(live).
Dude, I didn't see that you put Play in the title! That was a treat! Fuckin awesome!
The mixing is really cool you can hear Miku with the rhythm guitar on the right channel and Kanami with the lead guitar in the left channel that’s really cool they used to do that when stereo first came out on lp records having ridiculous separation. I remember the Beatles really took advantage of that.

This guy is hooked for sure!!
Good lord. I have no words. 🔥🔥
To my ears the riff sounds like the great, long lived Australian band.. Alternating Current/Direct Current. I didn't even think of the change you get back when something costs 95¢ and all you have is a dollar.
Band-Maid + fire pyrotechnics = Maid-Stein, maybe :)
Fingerstyle she does it the whole song: about us.
Such great honest Rock. Brilliant yet again. Nothing but respect for these women.
love this song, it hits all the right cords in my heart for a kick butt rock song. but if you want to hear an even better dueling/call and response bass and guitar piece, you HAVE to listen to "Don't You Tell Me" Live from their 2018 Zepp Tokyo concert. that was hauntingly great!!! IF you can find it someplace online or have access to that dvd/blu ray.
i left him a link to the copy of it that is on my drive. it is in the comment section here
This whole concert DVD / Blu-ray is an extra disk that comes with the limited edition version of World Domination. This was the Just Bring it Tour.
Take me higher. Kanami has great tone, very Slash feel. Yes riff shares same chords as Nickelback song, which in turn each share Deep Purple chords. Kanami switches chords a tweak, but she takes an easier riff and makes it great. But I love Kanamis tone, and wah use. But I feel a GnR vibe with Kanamis tone.
Now maybe people will see why we are Maidiacs, ahhh the nostalgia, taking me back Ryan, much thanks 😊
The riff is from the song Animal
The band that shall not be named never sounded this good! I had not heard the referenced "other" not Band Maid song till it was brought up in comments, I've lead a sheltered life, I guess, lol! Take Me Higher is right at the top of my Band Maid play list, with Play, Turn Me On and Shake That! Yes, both of these are CFS's! The performances and mix from this concert are out of this world!
It is with a certain measure of happiness that I can say that I have no idea what song the "tainted riff" refers to.
You're lucky
@@RyanMear I know!
The order of the last two chords are different from that song. Also this song is better. As far as Play goes it's my favorite and all 5 different versions I've heard. Thanks for the vid.
OMG! Were those flames in the background? They must be taking some hints from Rammstein!!
Once again the Maid's lay waste!!
If you can find it or if someone has it on their computer to send you, "Turn Me On" from this show is also a must see. "Play was originally an instrumental but Saiki liked the song so much, she asked to have lyrics put to it. This version of "Play" is the best except for the "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah... na na na na na"... I like the crowd involvement better in the second live version. If it makes you feel any better, this song has more G'N'R vibes than the other shite band people compare the riff to.
I would say more like a conversation between a 6 strings and a 5 strings. That group is out of this world.😉
Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can we just sit back and appreciate how Misa can switch between slap and pick as if it's the most natural thing in the world???
Pure in your face hard rock
Well that was an awesome surprise this morning haha., Thanks Ryan. Glad you got to see and hear more from one of their official concerts and experience the added elements, and intensity and IMO better sound mixes from the earlier Studio Coast (Zepps great too). The Line Cube is awesome, but I agree with those who say the guitars are too quiet.
Next ....Band Maid - Dont you tell me live version kanami and misa battle 😁👍
