Jaime Alvarez MD els, mickelson, duval, Singh were all very good golfers, no Palmer but very good. In 97 you still had guys like Norman, Faldo and azinger who tiger also dominated in Augusta. Tiger never has his Palmer but people seem to forget that he beat some really great players.
I have to say it was truly special getting to watch this guy annihilate the field every week. Tiger in my humble opinion is in that Ali, Jordan rarified air.

Tiger from 2000 to 2002 was amazing to witness I was age 14 to 16 during that time and to see that kind of power in a swing is just amazing to see, even today I've never seen anyone swing a club as fast and hard as tiger did from 2000 to 2002 it's the best I've ever seen
Many of the pros would opt out and play other tournaments if Tiger played. That American Express commercial when Tiger came back said it all. Every one was happy even Lefty. That was till Tiger came back. Not sure but the song I'm into money in the club house. Never seen any player ever have so many saves and highlights. His game was perfect for a while. Looked unbeatable. Had the longest bogey free golf too.

It's interesting how the comparison of these periods change if only focusing on majors. From the 1999 PGA Championship to the 2002 US Open, Tiger had a stretch where he won 7 out of 11 majors. That includes the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach - probably the best golf ever played for a single tournament - as well as the Tiger slam. The 2004-2009 Tiger was still amazing and he won a bunch more majors - just not by 5 or 10+ shots. The overall stats are clearly better for 2004-2009 but the pure dominance in majors from 1999-2002 feels more like the "peak". Hard call!

am i the only one who thinks that the cameraman is just casually finding the ball easily and is easily tracking the ball when it's in the air like i'm a golf player myself and i still sometimes think that's it's hard to track the ball while it's in the air.

By the mid 2000s, we had the next gen of golfers who were much better and the courses had lengthened and hardened up. That's when he was playing the best golf of his life IMO when you look at all of the factors.

His scoring average that year was actually exactly the same as in 2000. His best years were with Haney. 2005 through the 2008 U.S. Open when he had to quit and have surgery were just incredible. Then he picked it right back up and won a bunch more tournaments in 2009. Tiger was great with Butch, but could be a bit inconsistent at times. Under Haney there was a stretch where he won 19 out of I believe 37 tournaments and only finished outside the top 10 a handful of times.

Not at all to diminish his ability, he clearly was a tier above everyone else, but who have to take into account the difference in equipment for tiger, specifically the golf ball. Nike was the first to come out with the solid core golf ball we all use today. Tiger was the only player using it initially. Again still one of the most creative and clutch shot makers I think has ever been on tour.
Tiger woods vanished from golf right when u groove and box grooves became illegal. Notice how he kept stopping balls out of the rough... not doing that anymore... so he’s not making any birdies....
Had Tiger not changed his swing from 2000 where he won 4 majors in a row and 9 times in one year he would have broken Jack's record long ago and no telling how many more wins he would have had. He lost probably 12-15 wins and 7-8 majors because of the foolish swing changes he made trying to "get better". Sometimes in the pursuit of perfection you don't realize you're already there.
I've seen Kyle Berkshire hit a putter farther than that (no, I'm not joking). Dude makes Tiger's distances look like child's play. Of course, there's a reason he has won the long drive competition twice now.
