About the "permitting laws": so many super-rich people were buying old houses in London and having sub-basements added for pools, gyms, etc. that there was a backlash from their neighbors who found the work to be disruptive and even caused damage to their own homes. They changed the laws to limit this type of construction.
It looks like they bought a lovely early 19th century Regency style house, gutted it and built a 1980s Las Vegas casino inside.

I would be scared to touch anything in this "closet". There is an entire shelf that just has one pair of sandals on it which probably cost more than my yearly income. Spending this much on things to cover your skin is obscene. I grant you that I am on the extreme end of things, but I have legitimately spent $15 total on clothes in the past year- and I would stick to this budget even if I had crazy amounts of money. Not knocking anyone who enjoys fancy clothes- just don't say it's "every girl".

It's not the same as reality. They know an end is near and they can bail when they want. Also, some rich people are probably literally ignorant to "normal" life. They were raised that way. How can we expect them to know something they have never been taught or exposed to? there's something very off and eerie about rich people's homes like this, it reminds me of kim and kanye's all-white concrete palace that looks as though nobody has ever actually lived there. even though they have kids, you don't see toys or books or games in the house, there's rarely any evidence that a family has lived in it. everything is spotless, there's no clutter like mail or laundry, you probably couldn't even find fingerprints and discarded hair anywhere in that house. kids are messy! the only clue that the house is inhabited is a couple of photos. why is that, and why would you want to live like a ghost? I'm halfway convinced all these people actually live in secret bunkers deep under the house and the rest of it is just for showing off their wealth. why else would you dig 50m underground and install an 80s Bond villain lair down there?

there's no ethical way to even be that rich. even if you aquire it via inheritance due to generational wealth. because how did the ancestors aquire the wealth. unethically thats for sure. it's blood money.
the rich also don't spend it. they hoard it. creating even bigger wealth gaps between the rich and the common man. they sit on most of the country's money, whilst the majority have to live off scraps. and when they do spend it, they don't spend it in local economies because that would make everyone richer. and rich people like the exclusivity.
