      Hi Rhys, this is our version of the budget, easy muzzle flash to do; as JP mentions, it's just a tube with an e-match and flash cotton in that sends the flash out. We have our Cobra firing system, but any remote trigger would work, or it could be lit manually

    This is cool, but I always wondered if there was a way to physically simulate flashes, and explosions and what not in camera and practically using any combination of materials. Even that replica uzi can be dangerous -- I know for ground explosions you can use some sort of air-cannon but that doesn't produce something that looks like fire.

      @RyoMassaki Před 3 lety

      I've once read somewhere that John Woo got his fingers burned by blank muzzle flashes because he was too close to the guns with his camera shooting a scene as cinematographer.
      Also actors (and stuntmen) had to wear bulletproof west's because he had the actors shoot blanks from like 30cm away (directly aiming at the torso) and not just one shot, whole magazines (2 probably from 2 guns). He also put actors close to explosions without telling them how big the fireball actually would be, to get a real fearful expression on their faces. Yes, he has a reputation for reasons.

      The replica type is translated simply as ‘Model Gun’ by the Japanese enthusiasts who make and sell them. For TV and Film work they are great because they take low power caps = much safer than blanks. To discover more on Model Guns, Google search ‘Model Gun’ or ‘PFC Gun’. Check laws in your country to see if you need anything to secure purchase...for us in the UK, we are allowed because we are a TV/Film studio, but an average member of the public who is not affiliated with TV/Film company or a Museum or recognised reenactment group will not qualify for ownership of such a replica. Yes, we were partly evaluating the image from the Ursa 12k at 240fps (@4k crop) and checking for flicker at that frame rate on our lights. Although the image was slightly soft when pushed that high, we found it was possibly to subtly sharpen a couple of points in Resolve to give us a very good looking image.

    • @jp-incamera
      @jp-incamera Před 3 lety +2

      @@patrickfreeman8257 Nothing. But at around 240fps and higher, there can often be issues with Tungsten lamps flickering upon playback. We were keen to test if our 5k lamps would exhibit any flickering issues at that frame rate. Also, if you have a camera at your disposal that can shoot 240fps at 4k - it feels like a waste to not test that particular feature...a bit like driving a Bugatti Chiron on a race track, but only driving it at a fixed 30mph :)

      @@jp-incamera Well since I got your attention for some reason here's my criticism that no-one will agree with or will read or like, and I'm going to get scolded for.
      There really isn't any context to the shot. No tension, no excitement. Ok, it's not a real uzi and what ever, but that should have been explored and embraced even more. The muzzle flash is an ok start but how about squibs? On furniture like a sofa, with a dude diving behind it or something... so it's still ok for CZcams. Or shooting through a door and kicking it down. The nature of the prop should make it even way cooler because it's safe to wield in any shot because you are not shooting actual blanks with ton of concussion or muzzle pressure etc.

      @@ZeroG84 No worries, all good here. Thank you for explaining your disappointment with the content of the video. I totally get where you are coming from and to a large extent, agree with you. We shot the video to celebrate 1million views and as an after thought, released it as an episode (we released it as a bonus to our regular 2 week schedule). We did not actually plan for it to be an episode...but rather it be a bit of a bonus bit of content. I totally agree, on its own it is not very exciting. To better demonstrate techniques and effects it is always best to show in a context or with narrative sense...good news is - that is exactly what we are planning to do! We will get far more detailed in an upcoming episode about how to film a shoot-out scene or sequence, our benchmark for what we want to emulate is a shot or short scene from a John Woo movie. Funnily enough, everything you mention is pretty much on our list to feature.Thank you for the criticism, it is valued because you went to the trouble of explaining. Stay tuned for more ambitious action examples, we aim to impress you next time. Cheers!
