    I enjoyed this ride! This is the type of motorcycle I eventually want to get. I hope to ride a concours at some point too.

    Nice vid! My 2009 FJR 1300 AE has been my favorite bike so far. I’ve had a 2012 NC 700X DCT, 2016 Africa Twin 1000 DCT, 2017 VFR 1200X DCT, 2018 GoldenWing DCT, non tour, and a 2010 VFR 1200F DCT. The FJR made me feel young again. Bought it when I was 57yrs old and logged 76,000 miles on it in 2.5 years. Rode that beast cross country solo! They love to go fast. They wake up @ 85mph, then really start to shine! Ride safe…

      Good to see your comments - I have had 4 FJRs over the years and was thinking about the 18 Goldwing and 1200 VFRs. On a 2007 FJR yccs atm. Reckon I'll stick with it seeing as you reckon it's the favorite.

    The later years FJR's have been refined much more. They got a 6 speed tranny, ES suspension (If you want it), cruise, better lighting and wind protection. It's too bad Yamaha said they are no longer updating this bike. I love my 2018 FJR. One of the best bikes I've owned and I've owned many.

      I’m sorry, for 2014 and 2016 they did a few small tweaks. 2016 got a 6 speed transmission. It’s pretty much the same bike though other than that. You’re welcome, anytime!

    Nice video mate. I have a 2007 FJR and I love it. I'd love that seat on mine though. It would make extra long trip much easier. I can do 450 - 500 kilometers (300 miles) without to much trouble with a stock seat. Power isn't down, you need to be at 5000 rpm before it really starts to come on. 1st gear I dont use full throttle 2nd I will and you can hit 160kph (100mph) before the rev limiter cuts in. 3rd gear at 9000rmp redline is about 190 - 200kph. I took my wife on an overnight ride and we were cruising at 140kph as thats where the bike wanted to be. I kept slowing to 110 - 120kph (70 - 75 mph) and next thing I knew I was back at 140 so I just left it there. awesome road bike I wouldn't want anything else.

      @BlackRiverRider  Před rokem +3

      Makes sense. I was still fairly low in the rpm band so wasn’t able to really ring it’s neck but would love to ride one again and see at some point! It seems like a great all rounder

      There is a 2016 that is decked out near me at a dealer with 30k miles for $11,900 but I have been wanting a new MT-09 as well which is at the same place for $9,499 brand new. I haven’t been able to get a new untitled bike yet so I’m kind of leaning toward that but the FJR is such a good one too.

      @@BlackRiverRider FJR is awesome for long trips and the 2016 is the 1st to come with a 6 speed gear box. Not that they need it but it would be nice to have lower rpm at highway speeds. You won't regret buying an FJR. I have the original panniers and top box which carries a ton of gear. I went on a 3 day ride and had room to spare. I could have taken my wife and still got everything in. I do have a couple of mods I'd like to do which are a new seat more suited to long distances (and maybe a bit closer to the ground as Im only 5"6" or 7") maybe bar risers so I sit a little more upright and a ew larger windscreen which I can swap in for winter riding then swap back to stock in summer. I have a friend with a 900 Tracer GT and he loves that. Enjoy you bike which ever one you get. I look forward to seeing a video of it.

    • @BlackRiverRider
      @BlackRiverRider  Před rokem +3

      Yeah I’m really torn. If I was without a toddler I would definitely go for the FJR without thinking twice but since my rides are no longer than a 2-3hrs round trip then I feel it’s sort of overkill for right now until I am more free to go touring like it’s intended to be used for. Might be a future bike in a few years though, especially if they come out with a new design of it. I loved the 900 GT I rode! Did a first ride video on one of those and it was great. Ultimately the new ones are just so expensive though now. Thanks for watching and commenting, I’ll be getting something soon hopefully!

      I think the only thing I didn’t like about it was how high the pegs were in comparison to the upright body position. The rest of the bike was great though. I imagine you could get lower pegs though or something. I have long legs lol. 12hrs is a haul even in a car, props!

    Seemed a little down on power compared to the 2012 I just bought. Mine leaves you holding on for dear life in a wide open 3rd gear pull. Im still scared of 1st and 2nd.

      No problem at all for me personally. It’s one of the most balanced bikes I have rode out of a bunch of cruisers and a few sport bikes. I was thinking of buying one of these actually before buying the MT07 I got recently.

      Yes - I bought a 2019 model just last week. I'm got back into riding a year ago after a long break and bought a Ninja 400 for myself and my son to use as a "get back into it without killing yourself" bike. The FJR is remarkably easy to ride slowly and the weight isn't a problem when you stop. It handles well - very stable and planted in the curves. Its not quite as nimble as the Ninja but after about 250 km (ridden with my wife as pillion) I had gotten used to it. The performance - I can only describe it as effortless.

    I've recently begun my search for an FJR. My toy budget is very "restrained" and I'm not sure if I'll find one around $4k that's any good. I am just not seeing anything in my area less than 5,500-6,000 so it might be a pipe dream.

      @@BlackRiverRider Question: what was that hesitation/stumble @1:07 and @2:23 ? Did it do this every time you got back on the throttle? Thanks

    • @BlackRiverRider
      @BlackRiverRider  Před rokem

      I believe this was just due to the low speed I was going and being in a relatively high gear like 3rd. It was lugging a bit as a result so it was a little jerky on getting back into the throttle. The transmission was also not great on this bike as it had trouble going into first gear. I believe it had been laid down at some point as it had fairing damage as well.
