The Rebel Alliance has destroyed the Death Star, defeated Darth Vader and the Emperor, and driven the remnants of the old Imperial Starfleet to a distant corner of the galaxy.
Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting Jedi twins. And Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited line of Jedi Knights.
But thousands of light-years away, the last of the Emperor's warlords has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic....

Over the holidays, I took some time to learn how to create various effects (lasers, explosions etc) with NVidia Omniverse, using the Chapter 1 space battle as a template. It has everything I needed to learn so it made a lot of sense to use it.
Of course, once I had mastered that challenge, I thought, why not render the characters again too and let you all see how it looks? So here we have a special edition of Chapter 1, freshly rendered using NVidia Omniverse to take advantage of all the latest features and raytracing capabilities of the software. Let's start the year off with a bang. Or lots of bangs, given the battle that takes place.
The improvement from the original Chapter 1 is bigger than the Death Star.
Will I give all the early chapters this treatment? Yes but not until I finish the rest of the book.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
I can't wait to see it!
Can you up the resolution to 4K, or even 8K, with these news recreations in Nvidia omniverse? Resolution always makes a big difference, and 1080p is just too low on a 4K OLED TV. Also, can’t wait 18+ hours to watch this, and if you could ever push it to UE5/Star Wars Eclipse levels of realism and facial animation, that would be incredible, fan films are the future, and what we need to challenge Disney’s monopoly on Star Wars.
Really looking forward to this. Heir to the Empire is the true sequel to ROTJ. IMO a great story with truly memorable characters. Star Wars was subsequently ruined by Disney. Timothy Zahn has a deeper understanding of the Star Wars Universe than anyone, including George Lucas, and this first became clear with HTTE. Seeing it brought to life with excellent animation and dialogue straight out of the novel is brilliant. Thanks Darth.

The updated models and features are...so artfully done.
I'm melancholic. It's nice to see people who still care about the EU, and have passion for it, but it also hurts at the same time to see and experience what we lost and what was thrown away like garbage by a bunch of suits. Anyways, God bless and I hope you continue on. This is great when all is said and done.
I look at it like this: would I want the people who made the sequel trilogy to be doing damage to the EU instead? It's better off as it is, perhaps.
I mean there's always maybe some wishful hope Disney could greenlight a full production animation of the original Thrawn Trilogy and label it "Legends" to avoid confusion. Heck they could hire use Dave Filoni's studio and make it in that style.
Sure they could havbe done it. But since Disney only looks out for moneyx, it needs its movies to be simple enough to "capture" non EU interested or knowing, non starwars fans, as those make around half to 58% (Studies were made) of the avg. western worlds Cinema Income with star wars. The Drop off from the first to the last of the Trilogy of conflicting everythings (Alas, poor Thrawn, a Manly and Smart Chiss, I knew him well,..... now sadly, times have turned him badly. This is the first Star Wars related content I've watched since Kenobi released and I've gotta say it's amazing. Reminds me there's still hope for Star Wars yet and its with the fans.
i recommend you watching Andor, is all Kenobi failed to be. Good written and Nice direction, easily one of the few good things since Rogue One, albeit very slow on the first 3 episoes

Wow! The space battles look great. And btw, tell the voice actor who does Thrawn that he is GREAT! I thought the guy from Rebels was perfect but I think your guy is a bit better.
This remaster is impressive, most impressive. The animation skills here have greatly improved since the original version.
I look forward to seeing more of these abilities in action.
An intelligent, cunning, tactical genius of an opponent. Such a pleasure to see instead of yet another evil overlord trope or villain in a mask trope. The sound work here is superb and the special edition imagery a noticeable improvement over the original part one I had the pleasure of discovering this week. A thousand thank you's!

Goes back to my first comment on the original video.
Art may seem like just drawings and paint and statues of past figures.
Simply look between the lines and into what the meaning of each piece represents.
Culture.
Ideals.
Beliefs.
How they live.
What they celebrate.
A old battlefield map of a past battle can be priceless to a man like Thrawn.
Ritualistic ceremonies can give more information then surveying a single unit.
Art. May seem simple in its design and harmless.
Once learned to its fullest potential, can be a more deadly weapon then any ship or turbo laser
I've been watching HTTE since ep. 3 or 4, and I'm still floored that one person is able to do all of this (and outside of their day job, no less). This is simply incredible work. Can't tell you how excited I am; we Star Wars fans have pretty much only had bad news since 2012 when Darth Disney took over. This is such a breath of fresh air.

I loved the original version of Ch. 1, but this takes everything to a new level-the updated animation of the space battle with Thrawn’s voiceover brings the scene to life even more, and I really liked the mannerisms and pacing of Thrawn as he methodically moves around the room. Outstanding job once again!! It’ll be fun to see the older chapters eventually receive a similar treatment, but I’m also excited to see the final chapters of the book completed first. Thank you again for your dedication to this project and bringing so much joy to Star Wars fans. MTFBWY!
I do believe I see Dreadnaught heavy cruisers(The Katana Fleet from Dark Force Rising) being used as the basis for those assault frigates.
That's how the assault frigates were built in the lore. The Rebels got some old dreadnoughts and modified them.

I had the original playing on my laptop screen and it the new version looks great! There's a lot more lighting, which definitely really helped improve the detail of the first. Can't wait for the final chapters.

We still need it rendered in 8K, which he can do, just takes some time, and uploaded with HDR, would look amazing, it’s like old games, high resolution makes up for the lack of detail in the textures, shadows, and so on.

Nice! There were so many little moments that look nicer but I really like at 3:16 you have Pellaeon and Thrawn both in frame and the focus on the two. Also were TIE Bombers in the original? Happy New Year Lord Angelus!

This looks PHENOMENAL. And what an upgrade from the original version. I know this is simply not feasible, but I would give a lot of money to a GoFund campaign that would make it possible for you to literally turn the best 100 old Expanded Universe novels into this, including the entire New Jedi Order, Legacy Of The Force and Fate Of The Jedi series. But in a more realistic approach, I hope that Lucasfilms gets wind of this, and hires you.

The dialogue is a tiny little bit behind the lip movement, but enough to be noticable.

There’s up to part 21 or so on his channel, this is just a remaster of the first chapter, chapter 1-16 are semi-remastered in a fixed! 2 hour version, the rest are on his channel as originally made.
