On a related note, I like how Murkrow went from being based on witches to being based on gangsters
Regional variant of Murkrow when
Please explain how Murkrow went from witches to gangsters
@@senderk4712 Honchkrow is a head honcho, like a mob boss. The murkrow are the honcho's underlings.
Like misdreavus murkow was originally based on a witch
Me personally, I’m just based.
@@senderk4712 Honchkrow. Head honcho. When you a pack of wild Murkrow, there's usually a Honchkrow nearby. A.K.A., the leader of the pack.
Prankster and having immunity to earthquake as well as eviolite & several non-damaging moves is really, really strong
And it’s not even forced to go on an eviolite set! A max attack crow can pick up a surprising amount of kills and do significant damage to threats with brave bird, especially when it’s not expected
@@eratheoracle good idea though moves like: taunt, haze, tailwind, quash, snarl, protect, etc. are hard to ignore. A lot of Gen 2 Pokemon really needed a buff and for those that did get help it really helped them a lot
@@christopherballero866 why not both? Murkrow with eject button, 252atk+, 252spd 4spdef with brave bird, tailwind, haze and a flex slot of your choice. Murkrow sets up wind or uses another status move first, nobody targets it cus it will do its job regardless. If it catches the splash of a multi hit move more likely than not it survives (badly) and you get a free switch, if they don’t target it or you see a free kill (like amoongus) or bring it back in later just nuke it with brave bird.
@@eratheoraclefoul play is a good choice that already sees play, since it’s not as expected as tailwind. The trade off for brave bird in this scenario is it matches up better against special attackers, but requires atk ev investment to be worth it. I wouldn’t be knowledgeable enough to say what murkrow set is generally better than the other, it honestly depends on the team it’s being used on
@@RealPeasantLord it’s a personal preference thing really. Foul play sets tend to stick around for longer but can’t do as much damage, as the things fouls play is super effective on tend to have bad atk to begin with. Brave bird sets usually do just what they need to and that’s it, but can pick up KOs and deal serious damage to most Pokémon rather than just a few. They’re both equally viable and because of that you have to play around both of them, until you hit the crow or the crow hits you you’ve gotta be prepared for either the foul play or the brave bird
Imagine honchkrow had prankster.
I would be happy and sad because it loses moxie
Insta banned
@@Dragoon-9 no
Murkrow would still have a niche/be better because w eviolite has better defenses than honchkrow
Murkrow is also faster than honchcrow and bulkier w/ eviolite so it has to worry less about getting one shot by opposing priority. So murkrow would probably still be used over honch
Explaining Prankster is the Pot of Greed of Pokemon
No it’s Haste
If Murkrow was a card in Yu-Gi-Oh, it would definitely be a hand trap.
For people not getting it: Pot of Greed in Yugioh is infamous for being explained over and over again, besides being a super simple card. Same for Prankster as a Pokemonability
PRANKSTER? WHAT DOES IT DO?
@@Mingha0 it lets you draw 2 cards before your opponent
This video just serves as a reminder that Whimsicott was removed 😔
Rip my beloved whimsicott :C
F
Bro I was wondering why he said "only pokemon with prankster and tailwind"...
Another reason to hold off on Scarlet/Violet
@@cucumber42 such a shame that underused mons are able to shine while standard meta picks are absent, right??
Did they remove talonflames tailwind too?
And of course, Haze to reset your ally Gholdengo's Make it Rain...
Did Haze Affects Gholdengo?i need to test this
@@bestiaalfin1061 it should , maybe haze is considered a field condition
@@bestiaalfin1061 Since Haze doesn't target anything specifically, Good as Gold doesn't prevent it from happening.
@@bestiaalfin1061 Haze affects Gholdengo
@@bestiaalfin1061 It does the same way trick room does; it's a field effect that doesn't target.
Not to mention that Murkrow has access to prankster taunt while also being a dark type and therefore immune to prankster moves itself
it's power comes from it's cool hat
Why is patterrz all the way down here?
Idk
Sword and Shield: Incineroar used Baton Pass!
Scarlet and Violet: Go! Murkrow!
As a trick room user it is comical how many people use murkrow and essentially lose in 1 turn
I was just thinking, trick room would slaughter this strat if used correctly
As someone who has been using a lot of murkrow, taunt really helps dealing with most characters that can set trick room tho, but if the oponent catches you of guard with trick room its gg
The thing is the meta rn is centered around a mid range meta game that can handle both trick room and tailwind. Failure to compete in either will probably lead to a loss. If a strict trick room or tailwind teams gets countered in set up then they lose
Thats actually a reason i use trickroom on the same team so i can remove the trick room
@@randomstardew just use quick guard to block taunt.
Murkrow is my favourite Pokémon of all time so it's nice to see him doing well
Yo same
Don't forget say Eviolite. That makes him tanky.
Easy Murkrow Tailwind + Honkrow, Big Boss and his henchmen.
One of my absolute favorites too. Proud to see him shine.
Saaame
I’m so happy that Murkrow’s back in the competitive scene, I missed the days when you could just click prankster Twave, Tailwind, or Haze, warms me heart
I've been avoiding using Murkrow so far but at this point it's starting to look like I'll simply have to just to deal with Donbozo
📠 I was running wild with dondozo until I started running into murky
Opportunist Espathra is also a strategy, copies the stat buffs
@@wamisurimi Opportunist Espathra with Mirror Herb, then sending out Costar Flamigo can be a decently nice combo. Espathra even has Baton Pass available so another team mate can have those boosts instead.
The issue would honestly have to be the timing, to where Espathra is already on the field as Tatsugiri activates Commander. Making Espathra a not-so-reliable counter to Dondozo.
Edit : I've been thinking of the idea of carrying a Tera Fairy Gastrodon w/ Storm Drain for TatsuZo, EQ is still rough but I think this could get somewhere
@@FringeSpectre I'm not a pro or anything but doesn't Indeedee/Armarouge counter Gholdengo/Murkrow? Psychic terrain naturally counters prankster, psychic seed reduces Gholdengo's damage, they're both special attackers so foul play from Murk probably won't kill, Indeedee is immune to a shadow ball and Armarouge takes reduced damage from make it rain.
damn i trained my random shiny murkrow into a wonderful fighting ready honchcrow today and i see this lmaoooo
Tell me why I was shiny hunting Squakabilly and found a Murkrow instead literally like two hours ago and I evolved it soon after for my dex 😭
Used Murkrow before it was popular, such a underrated mon.
Finally I can now understand why Wolfey kept saying Murkrow at the end of every competitive sentence-
I have always loved Murkrow since it’s debut in Gen 2! So happy to see people giving him his flowers!
Murkrow has a special place in my heart.
I've loved Murkrow since the Detective Pikachu game. Such an awesome looking mon.
Murkrow is insane! I won a small VGC tournament with my friends, and it was definitely the playmaker for every match other than trick room teams
The dark typing is also helpful as it’s immune to Prankster Taunt from faster Prankster Pokémon like Grafaiai, meaning the only way to shut it down is to KO it.
So happy to see my favourite Mon finally getting the love he deserves
As a huge Murkrow fan this makes me so happy lol
my boy is getting some love after all these years
This is the thing I needed to know for a long time, thanks a lot.
tbh even with Murkrow's reign, I think talonflame is really underrated. with gale wings and its insane speed stat you can basically guarantee that you get your tailwind up first. it may not get haze but I think it's strong enough to make up for it
Nerfed birb
ive been using talonflame this format, i even used it in a tournament, it’s really strong, wisp + tailwind + taunt is great support and priority brave bird hits a lot of stuff, you can really threaten meowscarada and annihilape a lot with it on lead. while murkrow does get feather dance, wisp is much more permanent and hurts bulkier teams that don’t mind switching a lot harder. talonflame is also much less of a deadweight after tailwind is up because of wisp and the higher base speed. you’re also bulkier naturally and fire/flying is a great defensive typing (murkrow doesn’t have the steel, fairy, fighting and fire resists that are super valuable in the current format.)
i still think it’s a more niche pick and fits many less teams than krow but i still think it’s overlooked a lot.
Oh yeah Murkrow go off
Every online match I get, has this single mon.
I honestly like using talonflame aswell because it also has priority tailwind and it is faster than murkrow letting your allies use priority moves before it. It is also a good mon offensively so that can really come in handy if you lost your other fire mons.
There’s also the issue of it being fairly tanky thanks to the funny pink rock
when gen 2 came out murkrow was one of my favorite new designs, and i'm just stoked it's cool again
Really appreciate this vod
He also has taunt that can shutdown amongus and some trickroom setters. Foul play also does decent damage especially against attack boosters.
Amogus
Murkrow has been my favorite Pokémon of all time since soul silver and it’s cool to see it’s competitively viable even though I’m not into Pokémon like that anymore
I believe in Murkrow supremacy :D I love that dude and that was before gen 9
Additionally it's impossible to use taunt on it before setting up a move since prankster let's move first and if you try to use taunt with a prankster user, it will not work as Murkrwo is a dark type
Let's not forget its dark typing, which makes him immune to prankster taunt
I'm also hoping for a Paradox form of either Murkrow or Honchkrow in the DLC, specifically called Dread Fowl because that name would work on so many levels.
the reason I like it isn't because of its competitive use, it's because of how damn cute the little friend is
Turn 1: Murkrow used Tailwind! Goldengho used Make it Rain!
Turn 2: Murkrow used Haze! Goldengho used Make it Rain!
Feels illegal to be this early
It would be cute for a team to just have Mukrow on the team next to other huge pokemon
Thank you for not doing a loop video every single short like other creators have fallen victim to
imagine use trick room with a indeedee with
It's actually a lot more than that: other than the TW + prankster combo he also has taunt to counter trick room/support pokemon, quash to stop a sweep, foul play to do massive damage to physical attackers without any investment and 1 slot which could be: haze for gholdengo/counter belly drum and dondozo, brave bird for unexpected kills, snarl for slowing down special attackers and more... Also has the dark flying type making him immune to EQ and enemy prankster. He also has many items to choose from like eviolite covert cloak sash... Bit too op ngl hahaha
Thank you for answering this damn question
prankster tailwind/haze/taunt
foul play for decent damage
icy wind for speed control
When I found it's shiny I though I'd never use it....
I was wondering this for so long thank you so much
Feels illegal that a big fish can commit murder
It also combos really well with gholdengo because it can get rid of the negative effects of make it rain with haze
Laughs in Trick Room
I've loved murkrow's design for years, I'm glad it's finally competitively viable now too
I love how you can have the most impressive team of various Pokémon and one is just Murkrow lined up with 5 other beasts
Grilmsnarl cant even taunt you since prankster cant affect murkrow
Feels like this should be on the shorts channel
With the shorts tab I'm putting more shorts on the main channel!
Prankster moment
Thank you algorithm
I was wondering about that recently, thanks for explaining lol
Murcrow got that light skin stare
Murkrow is one of the reasons I run a trick room team. (Trick room teams are also easy and fun to make/build.)
Tailwind go brrrr
It's amazing how these games look graphically worse after each generation
it also has some deadly egg moves
the dondozo strat is pretty specific. all you need to do is paralyze tatsugiri, cause then the toxic orb cant poison it anymore. dondozo will still eat it, but it wont be able to die and make way for the 4th pokemon.
that way annihilape died for nothing, tatsugiri blocks a spot, flaminkno can only come in when dondozo is dead and therefor the passive cant copy its stats.
so you can also play a grimsnarl opening with hydreigon. you got a tailwind setter, you can get yourself light screen/reflector and on top thunderwave all enemies to be even more annoying.
still murkrow is just so good.
Also, it might be a small thing but this can save your battle:
If you dont know what item you want, give murkrow an evoilite to boost its defenses to help it survive. (Leftovers could also work but doesn't protect against OHKOs
Trick room gets set up
This was really nice. Succinct, educational, accessible.
Murk'd 'em.
Prankster
Evio
Haze
Tailwind
Taunt
Also it having low attacking stats isn't too big of a deal when it gets foul play, which uses your enemy's attack
Even in hackmons, prankster + haze is an amazing combo. I used to have a zen-darmanitan with prankster + haze/entrainment to counter most of the common hackmons builds
Seeing my 2nd favorite Pokemon succeed in competitive play warms my heart.
Adding this to my bag
Tailwind is also available as a TM, flechling can learn tailwind as well, the prankster + tailwind combo is also still available on whimsicott
Murkrow has significantly better utility though, also whimsicott isn't in paldea currently
talonflame has priority tailwind too, show my boy some love
Such a perfect loop
*Chef kiss*
Wolfe VGC : Murkrow is the only Pokemon in the entire game which has access to both Prankster and Tailwind
Me : Wait , have you forgotten Whimsicott?
no
Sadly whimsicott isn’t in the game yet, thats why murkrow kinda replaced its role of a tailwind setter
@@Redeye_Brawl oooh that makes sense
Don't forget perish song to force sweeping mons out 😂
the four random shiny murkrow I've found so far while hunting other mons: *my time has come*
Murkrow is holding back my dex completion so I’d like to send him to the shadow realm
Its movepool is also kinda stacked in combination with prankster and decent attacking base stats, gives it a fuck ton if utility
That is why i always put a fake out pokemon and super effective type pokemon in the lead whenever i see murkrow on doubles in pkmn showdown
Also, murkrow is used because gholdengo and haze removes its debuffs
(From it's unique atack)
Make it rain
It can also take more hits than it’s evolution with Eviolite
The face of the Murkrow user when Trickroom.
Thunderous in the house now
I remember using Murkrow in my HGSS playthrough
And don't forget about how it helps goldengoh and its signature move
Me with a Tinkaton: "What Murkrow?"
Is it just me or anyone else noticed gen 2 got a lot of love this gen?
Delibird, misdreavus, murkrow and donphan all are top tier now.
My boy Murkrow! He's my favorite Pokemon, so it's kinda neat to hear he's finally competitively viable. Also, give him an eviolite and his typing dark/flying gives him a bunch of resistances and immunities, plus priority roost thanks to prankster and he's actually pretty tanky.
Murkrow taking on Calyrex in 1v1 gives me life
you don’t really want to be running roost in VGC at least, murkrow either needs to be doing something supportive or fainting to let something else switch in with tailwind for free. roost is way too passive and you end up wasting your own tailwind turns.
Doesnt get roost in gen 9 i think
I knew it had to be a substitute for something. We miss you, Whimsicott.
It’s so cute that’s also why I like using it
My favorite bird line
I have never been more terrified in my life now I can’t sleep
Basically, the new incineroar, a powerful support Pokémon
That bird is just a pain
