I don't have instagram and that's why I've said he's the greatest of the great. Wake up, Quarterbacks were murdered on the field back then. It's almost like Flag Football for the Quarterbacks NOWADAYS.

@Travis Hanks this video said they were willing to trade Young to keep Montana. Montana was out of the league in 2 years while Young stayed until 99 and was a pro bowler for 7 years straight and an all pro 3 years in a row. I was upset about Montana leaving but he was clearly diminished and only had 2 years left. Steve Young could have been an elite quarterback into the 2000’s if his style didn’t lead to so many concussions. It’s not like they were having a hard time choosing between Jimmy Glass and a Tom Brady still in his prime. It was more like a Favre and Rodgers.

As a Chiefs fan and season ticket holder even in the early 90’s what Joe did here was very underrated. He elevated JJ Birden/Willie Davis/Jonathan Hayes/Keith Cash to heights they hadn’t previously and would never reach after he was gone. I just wish Tony Gonzalez woulda been here when Joe was, woulda loved to see that duo. Great vid Mike!
I would've liked to have seen more out of Warren Moon when he was in KC. Seems like he didn't play that much, but when he did it was gold. What do you think?

I hate the 49ers, but I always admired Montana for just picking teams apart. Had the West Coast Offense not been “perfected” under him and Walsh, I wonder if it would’ve been as big as it became, or if it would have even caught-on at all. But I believe most of the offenses in the nfl subscribe to the “short pass is as good as the run” theory of the WCO...nowadays.

A star QB, that played most of his career with 1 team & was highly successful with that team, gets traded to another team in his twi-lite years & raises the level of play of players on that team and has a couple of season's of success there. IMAGINE THAT.
Those Chiefs Joe went to, already had a winning record for 4 years straight, with 3 straight trips to the playoffs (Division title and WC)
Joe missed 7 games in 93, the Chiefs went 4-3 with a NOBODY named "Dave Krieg"
Then right after Montana left, the Chiefs went 13-3 with another trip to the playoffs ( Division title)

And Favre 'retired early' only to come back & play with the Jets, then the Vikings and Pack fans & the whole country had a cow about it, calling it betrayal, he lied, etc. Now with the round the clock media coverage we have today, seems like Aaron Rodgers is in the same situation & everybody's 'all up in arms' about it again. I'm simply pointing out that this situation has happened before, and I was illustating it using a past great QB like Joe Montana, and in Aaron Rodgers own words we should all R-E-L-A-X about it and let what's going to be, be. Without looking up stats, I'm sure players on that KC team will say, that playing with Montana, even if he was not what he once used to be, elevated their level of play, or were thrilled to be playing with him. Maybe even Dave Krieg learned from him and elevated his level of play by while 'filling in' for him. If he went 4 and 3. I don't dispute your stats, just don't know them off the top of my head. In fact, Dave Krieg came from a small DIV III college ( in WI ) named Milton college, which no longer exists. I'd say he'd have to be some kind of football player to have a long NFL career coming from a small program like that. Wouldn't exactly call him a nobody. And maybe Montana's influence was helpful in them having a good season the following year.

Brady has been sacked 521 times which is second most behind Farve's 525. He will be the most sacked QB in NFL history by the end of the year. He's been hit more then Montana. Montana was simply far more injury prone.

Crybrady next season will have played more games than any other player in NFL history besides KICKERS. Of course Brady has been sacked more since he is slow as molasses in January and has played well over 300 games. A tomb stoning and a sack are not the same thing. The one game that sticks out of my mind when Joe was with KC was the 94 Monday Night Game aginst Denver. That had one of Joe’s top five greatest moments, and I am a 49ers fan. Give me 2:00 minutes left in the game down by four, I am taking Joe Montana as my QB

Yeah Mike you should really break down that Monday night game in Denver. That may be one of the greatest Monday Night games of all time. It’s a pure classic. I was in College at the University of Kansas and we were going nuts!!! Both Montana and Elway played great. Elway and Denver scored late and once again we thought he beat us. But Montana brought his magic to the game that night. It was brilliant.
First: Joe Montana was heaven sent for Chiefs fans of the era. He had me believing until a cold day in Buffalo.

Keith Cash, when he scored on the Oilers in that game, I remember him running over and spiking the football into that big massive Buddy Ryan sign in the end zone and it was awesome.
It was soo nice to see Joe Back. He did good. The Chiefs while good we’re just a little behind the Bills and a couple other AFC teams. He still had magic. His 1st year with the chiefs in the playoffs vs the Steelers and Oilers was a thing of beauty
Every Chiefs fan will always remember the build up to the oilers game, and the win over Buddy Ryan. It was one of the most hyped game of the 90's.
My dad was a life-long Chiefs fan, and a fan of Montana. He loved it when hos favorite team picked up his favorite player.

It’s very special Joe Montana played in Chiefs. Just legendary!
My personal memory of Mr Montana will always be that .... inexorable drive at the end of regulation against my beloved Steelers. We felt that injury alone had put us in a wild card spot: at the time we were vying for respect as a top level team again, which in the next few seasons they did get. That drive tore the heart out of Pittsburgh, it was directed under extreme pressure, against tight coverage played by top level players. Montana dissected that defense with perfect passes, thrown from all kinds of silly angles. He was a master surgeon at work. I kicked my television. My dad never even yelled at me for that.
I still have a Montana jersey. It was in the closet for 20 years. Had to break it out when they made the playoffs with Alex Smith.
I actually have a. Marcus Allen Jersey, Neil Smith and a JJ Birden from back in the day.

I was 24 & 25. It really was different. One of the things I’ll always be grateful to Joe for was getting KC to replace that horrible AstroTurf for real grass to make it easier on his back & knees.

I was 19 - 20 yrs old in June , 1980-1981. I was amazed watching Joe Montana, especially in 1983. What an amazing era, watching Joe Montana in the NFL. Never liked San Francisco 49ers, but witnessing Joe Montana, made me want to watch 49ers : Joe Montana. Just amazing QBacking at it's best. Beautiful ERA to watch NFL games. Thank You Joe Montana for your magic in the field. During my twenties was a wonderful - amazing NFL experience: watching Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers on the field. Priceless experience. Loved it, and witnessed beautiful NFL Football games at an elite quality level.

If the NFL had an ounce of sense, they'd recognize the incredible service, by way of exposure, that Miker provides them, free of charge and put him on the f*cking payroll. No one currently providing breakdowns generates nearly the level of excitement that this kid does. It's like watching a f*cking a drama, or maybe a thriller, unfold. There is no hyperbole in that statement. None at all.

There is no way to overstate exactly how excited the Kansas City fan base was to have Montana as a Chief. This was a time before legends left their long time franchises to extend their career a few more years elsewhere. To imagine Montana playing anywhere but San Francisco was insanity. Kansas City s GM, Carl Peterson could have run for governor of Missouri at the time and won. I've yet to see a team replicate the kind of electricity that immediately took over the franchise, and even the AFC west as a whole, as teams were jacked to host Montana in the AFC. It was largely believed that Montana would be the greatest QB of all time, and if it weren't for Brady, that would probably be true
I remember the Over/Under lines for NFL games back then were almost always right around 40 points. Kinda crazy to look back and see all those final scores. 17-3, 21-10, 14-0.... the run-heavy days of pro football.
I went to Arrowhead Stadium to see 49ers vs Chiefs, Steve Young vs Joe Montana. It was so exciting even though 49ers lost. Joe was Great as a Chief QB too.

and also it's Jan [Yahn] Stenerud. Tougher one but still. I was a 15 year old die-hard Chiefs fan when he came to town. It was so cool to see him play in person. I helped park cars for four hours to get a standing room entrance. You could just tell by his body language when he had the opposing defense fooled. You'd see him scramble a little and somebody would say "who's open?" and you just knew he had somebody. Watching a game in person was more eye-opening back then. We had a 27" TV that was enviable at the time, it didn't compare. I'm so grateful we finally got to a super bowl and the best days still appear to be ahead. I do get very nostalgic for that time though.

Joe was fucking amazing. In an era when you could ride a receiver in coverage like a backpack or blindside spear them while they attempted a catch. When you could aim to injure a qb on every hit. There was no one ever better. His arm wasn’t the strongest or most accurate. What he had is intangible. He flat won. He made the right decision every time and made everyone better around him. He was always cool under pressure and just managed to always beat you somehow. He made the chiefs a contender. His duel with elway on Monday night was one of the best games I’ve ever seen. Montana drove the field for a comeback td with 8 seconds left.
Joe would have been in the SB that year, if not for the pass interference call in the
Raider/Buffalo playoff game. It put the ball 1st and goal for the Bills and was
the difference that won the game. The Raiders would have had to go to KC for the
championship game.
As a 49er fan, I really didn’t appreciate how well Joe played in his last 2 years in KC. I was focused on Steve Young. Way to Go, Joe !😅

Brady is great, it can’t be denied, but the careers of Montana and Brady are so, so different as individuals, but also just the GAME today doesn’t even resemble the NFL Montana played in. Because of rules changes that have, gradually, made passing the be-all and end-all of the NFL, and the numbers of QBs just keep climbing. Brady has NEVER had a bullseye on his back. Montana did. Truly. Look it up. He was purposely KO’d from playoff games vs the Bears and The Giants in the mid-eighties...
Brady gets rid of the ball quickly, that’s part of it, and he is accurate, but he doesn’t have to contend with, say, Aaron Donald, actually AIMING to hurt him, as an actual STRATEGY...
Remember the way he ran over to the Honey Badger in the Super Bowl and talked that trash? Had a QB even THOUGHT of doing that in Montana’s day, he’d have been carted off before the next series was over. Depending on the OPPOSING defense, of course...

I doubt Brady will become drastically worse in the middle of the season. Like you said he doesn’t use his athleticism too much in games. His arm is still pretty strong and when you look at ppl like drew brees in his last year who was still winning games with a pretty weak arm, it makes you wonder how long Brady could play
