Great interview! I must admit when I heard Joe say in this interview that when he went to the Chiefs, they had these little speedy wide receivers who were outrunning his arm, that made me smile. Willie Davis and I ran 4.3 in the forty and got up the field fast. I specifically remember a conversation about this during the first week of practice. Joe told us he was not used to our speed and had to get the ball out faster. He underthrew us a lot initially, but then he figured it out. Such a privilege to play with him.

Dude, longtime Chiefs fan.......loved the JJ Birdens, Willie Davis's, Derrick Walkers, Lake Dawsons.........combined with that defense, those were some great, great teams. As much as I love the Chiefs success the last 5 years, there is a part of me that will always miss the Chiefs of the 90's.

The goat. Montana only played in 4 super bowl. Because the entire 80s were nfc champ games being the real super bowl. Hard to think Brady could have won 4 on the niners in the 80s. Brady would have been life flighted after his 3rd year. No comparison. Brady is 2nd best sure. But he's not 4-0 with 13 tds and 0 ints in the big one. Montana is Jordan. Brady is leBron. Go to a bunch of Champs but also lose alot of them. Also. montana was always the best qb during his era. Brady maybe had 2 years of being the best qb in the league. Manning, Favre, Warner, Rodgers, mahomes. Most Years there were better qbs , even if the patd d won him superbowls. From 81-91, Montana was clear best qb .in reg season and playoffs. Marino in 84 is maybe the only year he wasn't the clear top qb. Brady 07 and 2014 were the only years he was top qb. Also bellichek Def was how Brady won alot. plus Vinatieri. Bellichek Def was almost the only d that could beat. Montana. Brady won 2 superbowls genuinely. The other 5 were defense /kicker carrying him. Doesnt negate his greatness, but he's just not as good or clutch as Montana. Brady #2

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for a memorable encounter I had during my first 49ers game in 1987 against the Chargers at Candlestick Park.
Embarking on the Dutch courage, I impulsively ventured to the very first row of the stadium during your warm-up. To my surprise, instead of reprimanding me, you graciously invited me to join you and led me to your family's seating area. Your wife, daughters, and mother extended their warmth, making me feel like an honorary member of the Montana family.
Throughout the game, your family's kindness continued, with high fives exchanged every time you scored a touchdown. This experience left an indelible mark on me, and I wanted to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation.
Having recently watched an interview featuring you, I felt compelled to extend my gratitude once again. Your generosity and kindness have etched a lasting memory, and I remain grateful for that unforgettable day.
Thank for exemplifying not only greatness on the field but also genuine warmth and hospitality off it.
    Kind regards,
    A Proud 49ers Fan

I turn and realized I just cold shouldered joe montana for a minute.

Was mid-afternoon so was pretty quiet in the place except for a few others than our group. He basically joined in our bar chatter for an hour like he was just another dude. He might be a football legend, but for an hour with us he was just one of the guys. I also sat next to Keena Turner in that bar a different day. Same thing, just one of the guys. It was an excellent interview with Joe Cool. Good to finally hear him open up about that complicated and unfortunate transition when George Seifert chose to go with Steve Young instead of bringing back Montana. Made me smile when he honestly said "Im not going to be Steve's backup, I'm better than him." People just don't realize how harder football was and the level of ability these guys had to have to be able to do and accomplish what they did. These guys were OCs at the field, they knew more than coordinators know today. I don't think we'll see anyone be undefeated with 4 SBs again, ever. I feel in love with Joe Montana during his championship runs. What a joy he was to watch! We were so blessed to have him. Once Steve Young started playing, I kind of lost interest in the game until now.

I am a Joe Gibbs redskins fan. Grew up in dc. One of first ever live games I saw with my Dad was the 81 niners team beat Theisman and the skins. … I despised Montana then. Now, I can’t stop listening to interviews with him. He’s the best. I really feel he is the goat. I know Brady has the bling. But nobody is cooler than Joe. Unreal respect for this man and the Niners.

2 of my favorites. I’ve loved Joe since I can remember. When I was 9 living in central California, my uncle was a cowboys fan and gave me crap before the catch game for being a 49ers fan so I was instantly a huge fan.
I’ve become a big fan of Pat recently. Pat is a must watch for me now, he’s really the only reason I watch ESPN anymore.

Joe, you;re my all time fav NFL player, period!!! I liked how you explained losing your job to Steve. That is, it was nice to actually hear you come out and say it. And yes, Steve was good, but you were better. And like Jerry Rice says, you should have been able to compete to get your job back. Who knows HOW the '93 and '94 NFC championship may have turned out, with a proven QB who KNEW how to win tough games. And also......I hate that John Taylor gets forgotten so much, so thank you SO MUCH for bringing up his name. Like Rice, he was a great receiver, very talented at avoiding a tackle, and a super good sportsman. That Monday night game with the Rams, the 49ers were gonna lose that game, until John's two 90 + yard TD catches happened. THAT my friend, was super amazing. And YES, he;s hall of fame material. I seen this picture somewhere, of you three on the side line, on the bench, you were in the middle, Jerry on one side, John on the other. A picture worth framing, I say. Joe, I am no one to anyone, but meeting you would be on my bucket list.
I've gotta tell this story. In 1981, I was 15. And I badly wanted to see some of these no name teams rise up and start winning. I seen the 49ers go to Pittsburgh, and BEAT Terry Bradshall and the Steelers mid season. THAT impressed me. I was a fan from that day on,
and NOT disappointed. Also, a little shout out to Mike Wilson, backup, 3rd or 4th WR........he'd been there for ya all those years. We don;t see or hear much from him, but he seemed like a great sportsman, great guy. Thank you all.
    Barrry

I had a huge crush on Joe Montana when I was a young girl in the 80s. And it was so innocent: I was just floored by his energy and charisma and that basically he could command his incredible team (in my mind) to do such amazing things. Good to see he's such a down to earth person and the celebrity and physical demands of the game didn't ruin that.

Played when they had to deliver the throw knowing they were going to get hit and not get bailed out by these new “roughing the passer” penalties. QB’s in today’s game know they can’t get hit low or get in the head, that wasn’t the case in Joe’s day they had to take the hit and still deliver the throws.
