We Found GLOWING Rocks at Night while CAMPING Along Lake Superior in Michigan - Yooperlite Hunting

  • What an adventure! We decided to go all the way up to Michigan and do some camping along the shores of Lake Superior. The weather just barely cooperated with us, making for much less actual hunting time than we expected....but we made the best of what we had and still had a great time with plenty of memories. Our primary objective (besides having fun and sharing it with all of you!) was to find a fluorescent form of sodalite nicknamed yooperlites. These stones glow an extremely vibrant orange color when hit by a specific type of UV flashlight at night. We did manage to find some of my best ever specimens of these which made the trip a huge success, despite the weather.
Hit that thumbs up button if you enjoyed this video!
You can purchase these stones here: paleocris.com/product-tag/emb...
This is a great entry level 365nm UV light, perfect for revealing the fluorescent sodalite in this specimen: amzn.to/3z3XkcB

Just wanted to drop a line. I’m a rock enthusiast. I have been collecting rocks my whole life & to learn more about them & new rocks I didn’t know existed is really exciting. Wow! Sodalite. So cool! I would also like to commend both of you for a clean language video. Many people use curse or slang curse words as an everyday part of the way they speak & communicate. To me it is totally unacceptable. I really, really like the way you respect & care about nature, the animals you encounter & the environment; very refreshing. The moth was so beautiful. Pizza sandwich! Great idea. Grill cheese? Thanks so much for sharing the fun & rocks. Take care.

So great! I never knew about glowing rocks. At first I thought it was maybe uranium deposits within but then, you found blue and red. And then, the theory of bioluminescent algae seeping into the pores of the rock and because those on the shores stayed wet, the algae lives. I want to know if they continue to glow after they dry out. I know I will be checking all my rocks with my black light now. I came for the rock video but, I am equally impressed with the frogs, bugs and moths you featured. The lightening was cool too. Also, your cooking features are helpful. AH... PURE MICHIGAN, my happy place UP north. Did you listen to the Dogman song...lol a little history for you, the Dog man started out as an April fools joke from the COUNRTY radio station WTCM in traverse city but became such a great part of Michigans Folk stories, its now usually played in October. Great pics of the lightening! Last year when we were camping up there my boys were sleeping in hammocks, but a storm rolled in and they moved to the tent.. lightening struck one of the trees the boys had been tied too🤪..... good thing they moved to a tent..we also had a bear about half mile from us..lol did you see any bears?

This reminds me so much of my family camping trips while growing up; from the crazy fiascos and rain to the rock hounding, waterfalls and photography. That moth was amazing, also! I hope the ticks weren't too bad. I couldn't stop thinking about them while you guys were collecting firewood.. eek. Lol.
