    An interesting note to point out. When Sofia is showing ezio the map, it's obviously an unfinished map due to explorers going only so far. Ezio mentions that scholars he knows underestimates the size of the globe. However ezio isn't telling the whole truth when he says that. In assassins creed 2, once he finds the codex pages, he can see the completed map of the world with his own eyes. He has already seen the full map, yet he doesn't mention that to Sofia. A small detail as to Ezio not fully trusting Sofia completely at that given time, allowing the relationship to feel more naturally developed over time. Quite a tiny detail, yet interesting to point out. I think the writing team did a sound job developing this relationship in the 1 game timeframe they managed to fit it in.

    • @2013branth
      @2013branth Před 8 lety +200

      +Richard “Firebug” Merrick I guess it's a narrative issue. The English accents are the most diverse and recognisable when it comes to association with class. The French accent kind of negates that narrative tool in a story that focuses heavily on the clash of classes.

      Second City Wolf Well, not everyone had English accents, but like I said before, English accents are the most versatile in showing class differences during a period of time where class warfare was at its height. I doubt everyone running around with "hon hon hon le baguette" would've been able to create such a context.

    • @EonStormcrow
      @EonStormcrow Před 7 lety +52

      Don't quote me on this but apparently the French who were part of the development team found that French accented English sounded ridiculous so they scrapped it. I guess the same is true for most people who speak more than one language.
      Speaking from experience, as a Filipino, I always found it weird to hear someone speaking Filipino without the expected Filipino accent or any other native dialect like the way the Japanese pronounce English words, etc.

    When Ezio says he'll kill you, he means it. The Templars never do seem to learn what a bad idea it is to make things personal with the Assassins by targeting the people they care about.

    If I’m honest, that statement is more true for Ezio than any other assassin in the series. He took down at least three different Templar rites, got nearly killed and survived so many times, brought justice to his family and multiple others, and managed to bring about a golden age of assassins in different parts of the world. And through it all, he kept his humanity, his personality, and even survived it all to get married and grow old in addition, just like Altair almost.

    While I do love Sofia, it's sad to know that she was created as a character because of the loss of Rosa's voice actor. Rosa was originally meant to become Ezio's long time love interest over the 3 games, but her voice actress was in a car accident during the development of Brotherhood and died 2 days later in a coma. Ubisoft Montreal chose not to recast her, to honor her part in the series, and wrote the character out of Brotherhood where she was originally to play a more substantial role.
    Originally, it would have been Rosa who would have worked with Ezio in Rome, acting as an Assassin and helping to lead the new Roma Brotherhood, and becoming Ezio's wife by the end.

    If you were to compare, Connor has lost way more than Ezio ever has. Ezio lived a good chunk of his life with his family. Ezio's upbringing shaped his personality, his character. The same goes to Connor. He does have a personality, and sense of character, it's just the polar opposite to Ezio. Connor didn't even know his father, and his Mother was killed along with his entire village, destroyed. Connor had a tough childhood, because by the age Ezio became an Assassin, he still had memories, whereas Connor only had his training to look forward to with Achilles, and the blood of his Village, with the few remnants and people that survived. Connor lived a serious life, not up and down as Ezio's went. In short, both had character, and people should realize what they've been through in order to realize the difference between the 2 characters. Or all of us can just agree that they're fictional characters, and just enjoy the game, please! lol.
    Peace.

      @epicpoppiecorn1887 Před 7 lety +9

      Yea i understand what youre saying, my grandparents had a 12 year age gap so I know exactly what you mean. What I meant was there are many people out there who would think Ezio was a "pervert" type deal. Yes, in today's society a 50 year old dating 20 year old would seem different, but it is their choice so I do not really care. ( yes i know Ezio and Sofias age gap is not this large. Its an example). They could still be happy no matter the age gap, doesnt matter as long as they are happy. However, even though you and I dont find it weird, there are a lot of people out there who think an age gap _would_ be weird. (especially an age gap over 10 years and in current society, large age gaps are generally viewed as "weird") So i was addressing that and how it was normal especially in that time period for a 15 year old to be engaged to a 40 year old. Age gaps didn't really exist. Thats what I meant :) Sorry if it sounded different.

    Yes. You learn about it in the Assassin's Creed: Embers short film. They got married and settled down so that they can live in peace and raise a family together back in Florence. That is how Ezio's bloodline got passed on.

    3:28 Perhaps the most fitting definition of the Templars. Men who do not read. Not in the sense that they are not well educated, smart or knowledgeable, of course, but in the sense that they do not know the JOY of reading. They do not care about learning of other people’s stories, ideals and perspectives, which is precisely why reading is so beneficial, so rewarding, so important to make us better human beings. Instead they only care about their OWN perspective, and they feel totally entitled to force it upon the rest of the world. It is no coincidence that the final step of Ezio’s journey is all about literally and symbolically falling in love with Knowledge (which, for those who don’t know, is what Sofia means in Greek). This simple and pure kind of love, the love Ezio gently smiles at when he feels it in Sofia’s voice, is exactly what the Assassins fight for and what the Templars lack, what would be completely annihilated if the latter were to realize their new world order. Love, rather than fear, for what is new, what is different, what is unknown. Or, as the man himself said, for this vast and wonderful world that gave us life, and keeps us guessing.

      BenExp people who cant get over the fact that Ezio's story is over. Connor was a great character in his own right. Personally, i feel Connor's story is one of the most tragic and makes me want to root for him. He is simple minded, stoic and an alien in his own homeland. His people caught in a crossfire from a war not of their making. His whole cultural heritage either perverted by european conquerors or just erased all together. And it ending was a pyrrhic victory for him. He had stopped the templars partly for the brotherhood mostly for his own personal revenge, but he couldn't save his own people. Cuz we all know what happened to the natives. Whoever writed the script for assasins creed is a bloody genius.

      I respectfully disagree. People don't dislike Connor because he isn't a carbon copy of Ezio. People dislike Connor because he's boring. He's the son of an English man and a Mohawk woman, and is living at a time when there was an enormous amount of tension between the two cultures. This should have been the easiest guy in the world to make interesting. But instead, Connor has little to no personality to call his own, and falls into the same trap as Altair: letting his devotion to the Creed define his entire character. He spends the vast majority of the game brooding and sulking. When you get right down to it, that's not very interesting or entertaining. Yeah, I know he went through a lot of shit in his life, and that would be enough to seriously fuck with anyone's head, but would it have killed him to crack a joke every now and again?

    I'm playing through odyssey right now, and there's a huge nosedive when it comes to the quality of the narrative when compared to the ezio trilogy and ac4. Things like the background score, properly animated and well voice acted characters make the story feel directed and thought out as opposed to stilted and lacking any urgency as in odyssey. I hope valhalla returns to these roots.
