    I enjoy your outboard videos. Very educational. Don't let that field behind you grow up. It takes a lot of work to get them cleared again (ask me how I know).

    Thanks for the reply a week ago I did check on the CDI website and they do sell a retro kit to change the UFI to a old style ignition. Not sure if I’m going to do that yet because I got to looking at it and discovered that the reeds are blowing back a little fuel so I think I will have to dig into that. I was struggling just to get it to idle and rebuilt the carburetors and did the sink and link with no change. Hard start and real ruff idle. Put my hand to the carburetors and felt wet fuel.

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  Před 4 lety +1

      I think you are on the right track. Hard start is usually a low pressure problem. When the piston goes up the cylinder the fuel is draw from the carb if the reed or the crank seals are leaking the motor is real hard to start. The fuel air mixture blows right back out other than to the top of the piston.

      Om Fishing after taking the intake and the reed valves out and inspecting them some where stuck closed and some where hanging way open order new one and a new gasket waiting on it to be delivered so that was the problem. Thanks again for your help and stay safe.

      Well it was running good and now it’s doing the same thing as before. It seems to jump timing it will idle good for a little bit then out of no where start missing and idle ruff. I’m going to do what you just showed us it’s straight out of the book I was just reading. I will let you know if the ignition module is the cause. Thanks again for your time and the video.

    I really like your videos and have found them helpful. I have a question about coils . On my 9.9 I tested the ohms and I get a 0 reading on the post to post is that normal ?

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  Před 2 lety

      The primary resistance for the coil is 0.1 (+ -) 0.05 ohm. If the coil is off the engine. Connect the meter black lead to ground tab on the coil, and connect the red lead to the primary coil.
      The secondary resistance connect the meter red lead to coil primary terminal. connect meter black lead to coil spark plug terminal. Meter must show 275 (+-)50 ohms. Hope this helps. I think this is what you are asking about is the secondary resistance. These readings are off my 1978 evinrude 9.9 Stay Safe

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  Před 4 lety

      I don't have any videos on that motor. 1970 is the oldest I have done so far. That would be a good project motor. I would like to find a project motor from the year I was born. 1956 would be hard to find the parts but well worth the trouble. Be sure and share your progress with me.

    I will have to review how you came up with those timing marks, the timing grid is usually on the other side of the recoil... This is a good test but don't let this stuff fool you. Those timing light pick ups love to pick up off both plug wire even though only connected to one...There is usually an arrow on the timing pick up also, but sometimes you have to put in on "backwards" due to different polarity....Always let common sense be your guide, test equipment is helpful for sure but often gives out inaccurate information....

    On that type of model since the CDI is underneath the flywheel. Does it need a battery so it can start and have spark

    • @OmFishing

      The motor does not need a battery. It works the same as other small outboards. Thanks for commenting.

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  Před 4 lety

      The stator assembly for a motor similar to ours the part number is 0584341. You would have to put a rectifier assembly on also. You would be better off to find a old motor that had it all together.
