I just wish Nintendo would have reworked games like Star fox Zero and held it off until the launch of the Switch that way there would have been another tent pole franchise to launch with.
I use to play Bomberman as a kid on the Nintendo 64 all the time and loved it! I just bought a Nintendo Switch and I’m excited to try out this version. I remember the monsters being super hard to beat as a child, like the huge crab monster that would come out of it’s underwater cave. Thanks for reviewing the game!

I picked up the game along with my Switch. I didn't have any lag issues while playing online. I actually think $50 is worth it since I've been craving for a Bomberman game for ages.

Thanks for the video review! As a bomberman 64 fan (This was my first foray into bomberman growing up) I wasn't sure if the single player mode would really be enough for me. I would like to pick up the switch game, but as you said I feel $30 is more in my price range without a more expansive single player such as bomberman 64 had. I sure hope they release that come on the switch VC. I may have to send Konami a letter about that. 🤔
I'm right with you on the single player. I love the personality, and charm in this game. I never really played the Bomberman games before, so this was new ground for me. Happy I got this game.

grabbed a couple $50 eShop cards and had some leftover after downloading Fast racing, i am setsuna and shovel knight. saw the 10ish dollars of leftover balance and decided to use it up towards bomberman after seeing positive reviews of the game 😶
One thing in particular you mentioned that I really like: The ability to unlock the bonus content by grinding for in-game currency. I'm a big fan of games doing this as an alternative to DLC. I play a lot of games on my tablet and a lot of them expect you to make in-app purchases but they don't actually require it if you're willing to grind for the content that you want. I wish game developers on consoles would start doing this and DLC would just go away unless it was something substantial like the extra stories for Fallout New Vegas (although in that case, if you play the vanilla game knowing the DLC exists it kinda feels half-finished so I'm not sure if even that counts as "good DLC").

honestly this game got my hyped for the switch. i mean everybody knows what to expect from zelda and was getting it but i also wanted bomberman as a day 1 purchase. The price doesnt bother me at all. The co op w my gf is fun and we enjoy it. Havent played online for the lag reasons but i still enjoy the game

I wish it was more top view instead of at a slant. I think the Boss sections work cause it is open and you don't have obstacles catching you and holding you. When it was top view it was easier to slide around corners and escape. The 3d ramps break the flow of the normal bomber man experience. Still I was happy to see it again. I have enjoyed my switch so far.

Bomberman Live! on the 360 was a great entry, R's style reminds me a bit of it. Dunno why people seem to think act zero was the last one.
Good review, agree on everything pretty much. Preordered Bomberman with Switch and Zelda so I've been playing it for some hours, other than the occasional lag in the multiplayer, the game has been enjoyable.
Waiting on the price drop was worth it, scored it for $10 from Target, but went through Best Buy's price matching, they even shipped it for free. Every Target within 100 miles was sold out. Wulff Den always talks about it so the game was on my radar, I was two years late to the Switch party, though having only recently picked mine up a few months ago.
I wish Nintendo would ask Capcom for a Mega Man X9. I don't care if it's modern or in retro 16 bit.

NO. X5 was the end of the story. It's bad enough that Capcom tarnished it with 6, 7 and 8. What would be really fantastic is if the first 3 games got the Blaster Master Zero treatment.

I got the switch day one and this game with 1, 2 switch, and Zelda. And I've played this game the most with my friends. I got mine on amazon for 43 bucks and as much as me and my friends play it, it's been totally worth it.
This is going for £25 in selected shops. Considering how old this video is I am assuming the online bugs have been ironed out so I'm picking it up, nice review btw

On launch day I picked up a Grey Switch with the collectors edition for BOTW with the season pass, 1-2 Switch, and a pro controller. So far I've put about 10-12 hours on Zelda and about 15 on 1-2 Switch. I've played both games quite a bit with friends and we all have enjoyed both games extensively! 1-2 Switch has been a big hit for my friend group
So far 8 of my friends have played 1-2 Switch ages ranging from 19-29 and we've all had a ton of fun playing it
We all really like party games so this one fit right in
Most of us really enjoy Zelda also
We had 6 hour Zelda session last night
First impressions for the system is spectacular so far
I'm really excited for the upcoming releases

Bomberman Snes was my shit as a kid took me forever to realize the last boss you had to punch the bombs into him to damage him haha I know right a non Mario game I beat as a kid hard to believe
Great review dude! I am having quite a few issues with Zelda BOTW personally, so it's a mixed bag first me. I know a lot of people love it and gave it great reviews.
Bomberman has been a lot of fun, certainly light on content but the multiplayer I've been going back to in short bursts since I opened the Switch!

Nice video. The reason I got this game was because of some fond memories of mega bomberman on sega Genesis. Nonetheless, this is a really good bomberman game.

I'm not a bomberman guy, so the best thing about this to me is that Konami revived an old Hudson soft title. I was really surprised about that. Maybe more will be coming in the future.

Like yourself, found the input lag a bit infuriating- Had a blast (pun intended!) playing local mp with my gf on Saturday night, finding the solo campaign so-so although I'm determined to get through it. Got it here in the UK for £37 so I'm happy with the price. Great review!

The Best Handheld Bomberman was 'Bomberman 2' for the DS.
My lil bro bought it and me and him both were disappointed in that they left out the team play option in battle mode cause 2 on 2 battle is how we always played in the other Bomberman games, but the co-op play on story mode is good, but I'd say it's more like a $20 to $25 game at the moment, definitely not worth the $50 he spent on it but hopefully they will make it better with updates later on.

I did pick up Super Bomberman R, and I've been very happy with it. I've Bomberman for a long time now and it's just entertaining to me. I enjoy the game play, I enjoy the fun of playing multiplayer. It's just a good time. Worth the price? No, but it is what it is. I wanted it and was willing to pick it up. I also ordered I Am Setsuna from Japan because I wanted a cart instead of a digital download, and it's costing me $13 more then the $40 digital download but it's worth it for me. I've played a little of that and liked it, so I'm willing to buy it (I much prefer carts when that is an option) and play it.
Still waiting on Gamestop to ship my Switch (which was ordered as a Release Day Delivery), so I haven't been able to play this, yet (which arrived on Friday with my copy of BOTW)... As far as the online mode, I can see why Konami still has to work it out, because not many people had the Nintendo Switch to help Beta Test the online modes. That is sorta what's happening, now, because they now have enough people with the console to be able to test the online modes and fix them as needed.

love the game. despite the lag of people that had bad internet, it was seamless, characters were unique. and this is coming from a casual guy who rarely played original Bomberman. still having fun with the game. Yeah i agree perhaps i should of waited but i dont regret buying it regardless. great video!!

I pretty much agree with you. I got the game for 20% + a $5 rewards certificate at Best Buy, so I got it for about $35 + tax. It really should have been price in the $20-30 range. $35 was fair, but there isn't a whole lot to the game. The single/co-op campaign is fairly short, plus there's the bomber modes / online. Most of the game is behind unlocks that you buy with the gems.... so expect to be doing a lot of grinding.
If you're looking for a co-op game, I think I might recommend Snipperclips over Bomberman, especially since it is only $20. Get Bomberman when it goes on sale. It's not a bad game, it just is overpriced in my opinion.

Honestly I think it's probably one of the weakest Bomberman entries in awhile but it doesn't commit outright atrocities like Act:Zero and it's still a fun Bomberman at it's core. I paid ~40 dollars after employee discount and while I think 30 would be the sweet spot for this I'm still having fun with it. It's just hard to recommend against other Bomberman games though unless you specifically need one for the Switch when most others like Bomberman Ultra/Live, the WiiWare one, Super Bomberman 3/4/5, Bomberman 64, and Saturn Bomberman do it better. So yeah could be better and priced more competitively but it's still Bomberman and those who enjoy the games will still have a good time I think

I'm gonna be picking this up soon to support the franchise, don't have a switch and don't plan on getting one for a while but I've missed Bomberman for too long and hopefully successful sales of R lead to something bigger and better in the future.
I think the price point vs those other Bomberman games definitely calls Super R into question, but at the same time I do think it's worth bringing up that Bomberman Blast no longer has functioning Wi-fi capabilities due to the Wifi connection shutdown for Wii and DS, and Bomberman Live/Ultra are pretty much dead games where it's difficult to find a match, If I'm being honest I don't really like Bomberman Live/Ultra I find the aesthetic to be somewhat lifeless and dull with no kind of expression at all, and the game just feels janky, I definitely find the games worthy at their 10 dollar price point, but at the same time I see them as far from the ideal Bomberman experience.
I know I'm in a minority but I'd rather pay the $40.00 I'm gonna pay for Super R or pay 30+ titles for various other great classics like Bomberman Online(Dreamcast) Saturn Bomberman, Bomberman 2 for DS, etc. than pay 10 for Live/Ultra again.
I can't disagree with your stance honestly. If you need something that at least can still be played online then R is about the only game in town and really it's worth supporting for the fact that (and can't believe i'm saying this) Konami actually put this game out there to begin with. I bought it really for that alone...that maybe Konami would find it worth putting out an R2 in a few years and with a bit more content and/or a bit more reasonable price. Like I said it's still a fun Bomberman game at it's core and if you play a lot of multiplayer local or otherwise there's still value to be had.

I got a Switch day 1 and 5 games for it, and Super Bomberman R is one of them. To be honest, Bomberman didn't appeal to me for a long time. But after that lame attempt at turning Bomberman into a gritty AAA game and seeing all the oldschool fans talk about the series and how they wanted Bomberman to return to form, I was swayed. With the announcement of this game being a launch title I decided to give it a shot, so not only is this one of 5 first Switch games but also the first Bomberman game I've ever played. Seems Konami's trying to better themselves after going to the dogs lately.
I want this game, but not for 50 !

Maybe it's weak, but I'll take 8 players online, 2 switches with 4 joycons each, MK8 planned for both, we convinced our coworkers to play with us, Bomberman is alway fun and the dudes at our workplace, the closest thing to bomberman they play is cod. And, if this game turn out to be a commercial success, konami will make better ones, and our consuered cowerkers will buy it if it arrive on PS4\XBox One\Steam, reviving the franchise.
A lot of debate about this game. Lots of people are saying its only a 15-20$ game at most. I own a Wii U and bought Zelda on it rather than buying the Switch. There really isnt anything for the switch until this fall (at least for me).
My first impression was extreme disappointment. On top of the 3D perspective not being my favorite, I feel like the controls aren't very smooth. HOWEVER, I played it right after playing Zelda on the Switch, and Bomberman on the Saturn. This game is no Saturn Bomberman. In fact I wish they would just re-release that. I am beginning to think I need to give it another look, though. Glad you like it, and hopefully someday I will too!
