Yah, it's raw Ronnie, 1961-1962. Spector worked her voice in 1963 to produce "Be My Baby," getting her voice the way he wanted. But this is Ronnie for sure... gutsy and honest and true : )
The girls move in on the male dominated vocal group sound, and are right up there with the best of them. That takes some doing, as Phil Everly said, those groups really were awfully good. A fabulous track from the Fabulous Ronettes.
Jeffrey Barclay yes indeed- recently discovered these incredibly talented and beautiful creatures. cant stop listening. like i’ve been pulled into the spinning vortex/ event horizon of a musical gravitational black hole. Its such a joy!
Ronettes .each and every song .is a golden collection song. For that to feel you have to listen ronettes song again and again. It will take deep inside your heart. I say because I feel it .
This song and the album that its on have been added to Spotify. Me and probably many others sent an email to Sony asking them to officially release the records the Ronettes had recorded under Colpix. Yesterday to my surprise I discovered the album on my Spotify. I don't know if it's on Apple or anywhere else, but it either way it's a beautiful thing!!
A beautiful production with lovely orchestration and background harmonies elevating Veronica’s distinctive and clear magnificent voice that continues to resonate thru the decades.
Lyrics : My guiding angel Up above I have lost My first love So tell me now What am I to do? I'm so lonely! (lonely) So lonely! (lonely) So lonely and you Too many teardrops Do I cry since we said it's good bye My guiding angel Now, what must I do? Oh I wonder! I wonder Does he miss me too? I tried so hard To find someone To take this place But no love in the world have I found Who can replace His tender embrace I know that you, Understand That's why I'm leaving It all in your hands And you heard my plea So please, answer me Guiding Angel How a way to you Set me free Oh oh oh oh oh oh, Set me free Oh oh oh oh oh oh, Set me free
The girls sound really good here. But I wished I could have had a word with the arranger at 1:28 to 1:35. The bass and rhythm track had a chord that sounded off key against the girls' and the violins' parts. It marred what could have been a stellar performance.
I like those Girl Groups very much, especially "The Ronettes". If I had one wish free I would wish that one of those Bands had an own composer (s) in the Group which would make them 3rd after The Beatles and ....you name it.
This is pure Ronnie...never too sure if its Nedra and Estelle as Spector would use other artists as back up and say its the Ronnettes...even used a young Cher at times...
+jontoish I think Darlene LOve did 90% of studio backups, along with studio personnel, staff writers, and people like Cher, who would have been at the sessions with Sonny. I've heard real live performances and Nedra and Estelle sounded great, but the studio is a different animal.
+jduff59 Thanks for info....didnt know Darlene Love was used so much btu did read in Ronnies autobiogrpahy as they would often hear about their new release before they knew anything about it and didnt even record anything. It was mainly Ronnies raw voice that Spector wanted as his future wife too and so used other who were in the studio at the time includeing of course Cher.
Great song! I loved that this was when her voice was raw. For some reason I'm not a big fan of Spector. Him producing them was excellent, but he basically terminated their chances of being popular like they were again because of his fame and self need. Some also say that Estelle's suffering of anorexia and schizophrenia and them going their separate ways was another factor. He even murdered Lana Clarkson. I'm glad Ronnie left him before the same happened to her.
Honestly I love the Colpix album more than the Spector LP, but it's entirely possible they could have been forgotten to history without him. I much prefer this more raw, garage-y, less-produced side of them. Sounds exactly as I imagine they would have been live in those early years.
Guiding angel, yes, the girls were fooled, they should have been given a real band and not always play with synthesizer background music. That's why their career broke up already in 1964
Best female voices of all time
This song was featured in a Chanel ad! I couldn’t believe my ears when I first heard it, so proud of The Ronettes 😊
Was it really? I can’t find it anywhere!
The wonderful voices Nedra beatyful😍
Best girl group ever. (I am a teenager from the 1960's)

I loved their look and sound.

Love The Ronettes, best voices I have ever heard n lovely ladies.
Ronnie, Estelle and Nedra. I got hooked when I was a spotty teen. I'm nearly 68 now and the legendary Ronettes live on
Jeffrey Barclay yes indeed- recently discovered these incredibly talented and beautiful creatures. cant stop listening. like i’ve been pulled into the spinning vortex/ event horizon of a musical gravitational black hole. Its such a joy!
If you ask me, the Ronettes live on. I`m 72.
What a great song
Ronettes .each and every song .is a golden collection song. For that to feel you have to listen ronettes song again and again. It will take deep inside your heart. I say because I feel it .
The ronettes are with me every day, it is the best group
I agree. Love the Ronettes, what beautiful voices, the best ever.
Once again, thank you so very much for posting another WONDERFUL song by the Ronettes. I LOVE IT VERY, VERY MUCH.

Sung by three angels.
Lyrics :
My guiding angel
Up above
I have lost
My first love
So tell me now
What am I to do?
I'm so lonely! (lonely)
So lonely! (lonely)
So lonely and you
Too many teardrops
Do I cry since we said it's good bye
My guiding angel
Now, what must I do?
Oh I wonder!
I wonder
Does he miss me too?
I tried so hard
To find someone
To take this place
But no love in the world have I found
Who can replace
His tender embrace
I know that you,
Understand
That's why I'm leaving
It all in your hands
And you heard my plea
So please, answer me
Guiding Angel
How a way to you
Set me free
Oh oh oh oh oh oh,
Set me free
Oh oh oh oh oh oh,
Set me free
just beauty
Increible. No la había escuchado hasta ahora. Una maravilla...
Lovely!!
This is amazing! I didn’t realise that the Ronettes could sing doo wop
Nice upload. Never heard this early song by them before.
Great sound! Ronnie was quite the girl, talented and pretty. Such a distinctive voice.
Distinctive and beautiful.
💜💜💜💜Love ronntes l love it😇😇😇😇😇😇😇Estalla nderd 😇😇😇😇 ronnie
Wow, where did the music like this go. I love it.
The Beatles and the rest of the English invasion killed it.
Shannon Shaw of The Clams fame definitely carries on their legacy in an honorable way, give her a listen!
Before Phil Spector got them. That raw but incredible talent.
It's a good answer to the ones who say the Ronettes would be nothing without Spector.
My my my this song slipped by me just beautiful gives you goose bump s all over never again will there be m usic like this
Great upload ...especially the sound quality.
EXCELLENT!
the best girl group of all time
No doubt about it. Possibly the best musical group of all time.
Agreed

Awesome sound! Superb! Unmatched!! Supremes - forget it!

I think this is Nedra and Estelle with Ronnie because this is pre-Spector.
That's. A famous child singer. Sonny & Cher Bono are back ground singers
Of course its Ronnie
FUCK ME......THIS IS SOOOO AMAZING,THANK YOU
FAB FAB FAB!!!!! Anyone know what year this song came out? Late fifties?
Cris E. John early 60s like 61 or 62
It was recorded in 1961.

amazing xx
Very true, Ally.
Is that nedra??
fact is, they were going nowhere w/o Phil, Mr. Wall of Sound Teenage Excitement! (loved it all)
After a while, they went nowhere with him.
Honestly I love the Colpix album more than the Spector LP, but it's entirely possible they could have been forgotten to history without him. I much prefer this more raw, garage-y, less-produced side of them. Sounds exactly as I imagine they would have been live in those early years.
TOMMY TRUTH SUNG BY 4 HEAVENLY BABES. TO ANGEL GUY. LEAD VOCAL GHOST SINGER
You bet it was. They had to be angels, humans can't sing like that.
Phil Spector died yesterday. A flawed genius. Before denouncing him too harshly remember that we may not have had these beautiful sounds without him.
Doesn't excuse murder but I agree. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
Not so sure that's Ronnie on lead
that's right black chicks. .
Ronnie and Estelle were Black, White, and Native American. Nedra was Black and Puerto Rican.
Why would anyone be interested in the stupid blondes with fabulous girls like these ?
Guiding angel, yes, the girls were fooled, they should have been given a real band and not always play with synthesizer background music. That's why their career broke up already in 1964
