Band: The Wrecking Crew with Hal Blaine on drums with his famous intro. That famous drum intro was an accident. Hal Blaine said: "I was supposed to play the snare on the second beat as well as the fourth, but I dropped a stick. Being the faker I was in those days, I left the mistake in and it became: โBum-ba-bum-BOOM!โ And soon everyone wanted that beat.
No less an authority than Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys has declared 'Be My Baby' the greatest pop record ever made. The song drove Brian Wilson mad with envy.
Wilson says it is his favorite record, stating in Q Magazine's 1001 Best songs Ever: "This is a special one for me. What a great sound, the Wall of Sound. Boy, first heard this on the car radio and I had to pull off the road, I couldn't believe it. The choruses blew me away; the strings are the melody of love. It has the promise to make the world better."
The Ronettes recorded "Be My Baby" in July 1963, Los Angeles at the Gold Star Studios famous for its echo chamber and was released in August 1963 at Philles Records. Producer: the infamous Phill Spector.
By the fall of that year, it had become a top ten hit, peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Top 100. "Our lives were turned upside down," Ronnie later recalled. "All the things I'd ever dreamed about were finally coming true "Be My Baby" turned out to be a huge record for the Ronettes; radio stations constantly played the song throughout the fall of 1963. Their unpolished but flirty voices, and Ronnieโs breaking โwhoa-oh-oh-oh-ohโ in โBe My Baby,โ have echoed through generations of female rock singers.
"Be My Baby" inspired a legion of Ronettes fans, including Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, who wrote "Don't Worry Baby" as a tribute to the group. The song is also notable for being the first recording work done by Cher, who was one of the backing vocals on the song. Cher, the girlfriend of Sonny Bono at the time (who was then working for Phil Spector) was asked to join the back-up singers when one of them didn't show up for the recording that day. " 'Be My Baby' was the first record I ever sang on," Cher later wrote. "...I went out and stood in front of this big speaker and sang 'be my, be my baby' with the Ronettes and all these other singers."Ah huh huh", and "Be My Baby!," Cher became a permanent backup singer for songs recorded by the Ronettes, along with other songs Phil Spector produced for his label Philles Records.
Phil Spector (81 yrs, born Harvey Phillip Spector, December 26, 1939 - January 16, 2021) convicted on April 13, 2009, for the second-degree murder of Lana Clarkson - a blond actress who was found shot to death in the legendary producerโs 30-room mansion. It was a tragic end to a music career that saw as many dizzying heights as it did truly bizarre twists. He was serving a prison sentence of 19 years to life and would be 88 years (in 2027) old before becoming eligible for parole. But Spector died January 16th , 2021of covid19 related complications.

@@ymotechnopopfan Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. He was obsessed with this song and it inspired him to write Don't Worry Baby
Bob Graham : Is is ok, but the best ever? Donโt think so.
Not sure about one of the best. Don't forget, songs from The Supremes, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Buffalo Springfield, The Temptations, The Animals, The Turtles, Procol Harum, Jimmy Ruffin, Ben E. King, The Doors, The Mamas and The Papas, The Zombies, The Byrds, Ottis Redding, Chuck Berry, The Moody Blues, The Association...etc were way better than the Ronettes in my opinion. I like the Ronettes songs, but so many more awesome bands that sang better songs. @@gingerp6631Phil Spector's production of this song was the reason why Brian Wilson regarded it as the best. Without question she was Rock and Roll Royality ...... Godspeed Ronnie .
This planet is a bit darker without you but the heavens sure do shine much brighter now.
I remember this evening at age 13. May the soul of Ronnie Spector live forever. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and love her.
The most beautiful break in music history to me at 1:47.
Si si muy de acuerdo. Me encanta.
Bravo!

RIP Ronnie Spector. Love this song.
A building block in the lives of millions. Forever loved.
Yep, she had a great influence on Amy Winehouse.
@@cycleSCUBA Yes. I just realized, looking at this, that Amy actually used the same sort of twisting on the spot moves that Ronnie did. Unfortunately they also shared twisted boyfriend syndrome. Pretty much the pavement of stardom.
There is a cool picture of Amy taken in what was once my bedroom in Camden. So much wild talent there in the 80,s and 90,s. The home of retro.
Rest In Peace Ronnie ๐๐
This is timeless... we should send it off to the outer universe on a space probe

Another Legend this year. Amazing voice. RIP Ronnie.
Close your eyes and listen to this song
Youโll found yourself in the 60 s outside a diner with your friends in spring time sat on an American convertible staring at the girl/guy you fancy...while you are eating a burger and siping a cherry vanilla smoothie
I remember it well!
Yeah... This happens to me... And that's strange because (unfortunately) I've never live the 60s...
There weren't any smoothies in the sixties.
It's a great memory to cherish
@GARYPUSSY Or maybe a Cherry Coke which was very popular at the time, But certainly not a smoothie
Iconic song And singer... The 'must' of this era.... Awful.... but the resalt....awesome.... Top 100 of all times.... RIP...

A timeless, classic masterpiece!
this is what you call real taste of music.. in our time right only care's about money.
Swastika Zero It was pretty bad back then, too. You should read Brian Wilson's biography. Everyone everywhere anytime is money sucking.
