Ive always wondered why the person that wants to be up and close to grab you has a move to toss you half the screen away

Because what's the point of a challenge with a reward if you only have to succeed in the challenge once to get infinite rewards.
Getting that close as a grappler is what balances the attacks and makes them satisfying to do.
@@Ze_N00B The problem is that one of Pot's best outcomes for an interaction involves basically shooting himself in the foot. At best, the opponent is back in neutral after making a mistake that should've gotten them chunked, at worst a zoner just got the distance he wanted. Nobody else had an issue where doing everything RIGHT undoes all their effort.

I like to think xrd pot was a direct response to FAB's growing power. It was getting so ridiculous that he was starting to phase through the veil of real life and ggverse. They didn't want him to PB RC 2H HPB the entirety of the backyard so they kept him in check for a game life cycle.
considering how he put in so much work even with Xrd Pot, I wouldn't be surprised

Having a TOD in the corner seems kinda pointless when you need to be winning the match HARD to actually get to that point. You win with the TOD 1 out of 15 games, but it's gotta be even less than that where you win with the TOD and the opponent is at high enough health that nothing else could have killed.
Having the TOD is (mostly) pointless but Potemkin’s damage and reward in the corner is genuinely good. Getting hit by buster gives him buster + a free combo extension just for being in the corner, and getting caught trying to jump buster let’s him do his famous 6K corner loops that build a lot of meter and do a lot of damage. His problems are basically just midscreen
I'd honestly love to see more videos like this about the older games, gives perspective how much different strive is

I agree with Mine! You really should play older games, they're a LOT of fun. +r has rollback, an awesome matchmaking method with quick match, and it's probably the most consistent version of Potemkin. Xrd's delay based and there's no real matchmaking outside of finding lobbies, but it's fun despite that
+r also goes for dirt cheap on sale, and it IS the steam summer sale right now :)
If you watch tournaments of older games it’s pretty clear too
@@chemicalexposure8537 see the thing about old games is only the really dedicated players are left after a while. This significantly raises the skill floor which I struggle with on account of being a dumb bitch.

I wish there were players of all the other characters that went into such detail about the characters toolkits like you do with potemkin. Potemkin mains are quite lucky to have someone like you making these video resources on this channel
Heat Knuckle oki is basically all he needs to jump to mid tier immediately. It's sad and one of the few things I prefer AC+ over Rev2 for.
Heat Knuckle oki and vacuum 2S are my reasons why I stay in AC+

I knew from tier lists that Xrd Pot was considered to much worse than +R Pot, but never quite understood what the difference maker was. Glad we know have a very informational video breaking down the important changes that were made.
Xrd Pot may be the “weakest” of the 3 Pots in comparison to the rest of the casts.
But his Facial Expressions are Golden.

@@chechakkimnorbirth3777 But every character was based off of their #Reload iteration. And we still got Zato who went from best character in #Reload to one of the worst in Xrd or Chipp who went from the worst character in #Reload to high tier in Xrd.

X is a meme game, xx he is aight, ac very strong, plus r strong.
I really like the tone shift in music choice after talking about pots scary corner pressure. It really emphasizes the point about how he's worse midscreen
Strive Pot feels like he's drowning right now. They keep buffing things that doesn't need to be buffed while ignoring what needs fixing. If heat knuckle gave oki, 2p was 7 frames and Hammerfall Break wasn't 28 fucking frames he'd be a lot better. I don't really understand what they want Pot to do in Strive. He wants to get close but lacks the tools to get close and stay close. It's bizzare.

Pretty good vid, i mained pot back in sign so this really took me back. I remember losing tourney matches to nothing but beak driver all too well. The only thing im disappointed in is that you didnt talk about how awful trishula was in sign 1.0

+R Potemkin should be one of the shining golden examples on how to design a great grappler along side such beasts as Ultra 4 Zangief, and Xrd should be the cautionary to warn weery devs to prevent them from completely fucking up their grapplers alongside such woeful stories as Omega 4 Zangief

You know what I, someone who has never played xrd, don't like about this potemkin?
His stance.
In strive, his stance is much wider, and is hunched over. In xrd, his head is much higher up on his massive shoulders, which has the effect of making him appear more upright, despite his lower pelvic area being further back. They also made said pelvic area a little wider as well, so now potemkin looks like a trapezoid with the small side on top of a a square in stead of a large upside down triangle
He's also so much smaller I can't take him seriously. Looks like mini Keanu reeves

I remember being so satisfied when I bought Xrd sign and realized it has #reload feel to it, and no AC stuff. Cause #reload was the version available on PC, and I played the hell out if it.
I kinda did not get AC changes back then: my brain rejected it after so many hours in #reload.

When you were talking about matchups that pot struggled with, I was thinking raven since one of his strength is his neutral.
Also, AC+ Pot was still a terror to this day. The fact that Heat Knuckle first part was so strong (Oki+better meter gain) and Slidehead left you in an OTG state where any hit was considered airborne was so dumb.
Transistor music? That's a nice surprise
I nearly a decade playing X and all of the XX games, always as pot. When I finally got a ps4 and Xrd Holy shit was I bummed out with everything pot lost, I still have nightmares about Raven.

i´m new to guilty gear, plays +r potemkin and i adore using 2d vacuum into potemkin buster. The idea of 2d not being a vacuum or the fact that it didn't always had that property is uncanny af too me, i can't imagine pot without that T_T

Just why? Why base him off of Reload and not AC/+R? This literally makes no sense to me and now Im worried that pot might be based off of his Xrd variant (hopefully Im wrong and just over thinking things)

The whole game was based on Reload instead of AC+R, and every character had most of their AC-specific tools removed. And for what it's worth, the devs of Strive specifically said they didn't base the character reworks on any specific past incarnation, but rebuilt them from the ground up to fit Strive's mechanics and vibe
XRD as a whole is based around #Reload, so it's not just Pot
And Strive Pot is a completely different beast than XRD Pot, don't worry there
They based it off Reload because the devs felt the kits by the time of AC and +r were too bloated. So they went back to the route of the XX series and designed the characters from there, while still trying to keep the core tools.

@@chechakkimnorbirth3777 Not really??? Like at all? Xrd newcomers are very clearly playing Xrd. It’s also not like they’re all good, Ram, Bedman, Leo, JackO, Answer, all of them are low-mid/low tier. I wouldn’t say anyone in Xrd is playing +r, they’re all decidedly of lower character power than their predecessors, even if not by a huge amount

Strangely coincidental, as me and my Pot friend started playing Xrd recently. He's dropped Pot for Sol so far, but I'm thinking about dropping Ky for Sin
I'm still malding that ICPM and Trishula didn't make it into Strive - I loved those two specials to death. I'm also still addicted to using HFB is Strive out of habit I picked up in Xrd despite it being basically worthless as a neutral tool unless you have meter or just feel the need to cancel blocked 6H for some reason.
I hope you do the same type of video for Strive Potemkin, because the current version of Pot in Strive is also the worst character in the game and watching the segment about patches ''buffing'' Potemkin sure feels very familiar - fixed none of his problems, just buffed damage on meter use.

Everyone's neutral got buffed to the moon, everyone's pressure became way more oppressive while Pot's already awful defences were nerfed and his worst matchups got gigabuffed.

I had more fun on. Ggxxac+r than xrdrev2 but yeah in mid screen i jad a lot of problems to pressure corner not proble but mid he get destroy sometimes and sin hard to read on my end but still doesnt make me to stop playing him

That last bit about Xrd Pot being fun is absolutely true. I'll be honest and admit that as a character, +R Potemkin is a much stronger iteration than Xrd's. But with that said, I greatly prefer the Xrd Pot's gameplay, tools like 6K, charged FDB, and ICPM are infinitely fun to play around with

I would say Pot being so bad is why I didn't get into Xrd much, but I think it was that there's nobody I liked to play as more than Pot in Xrd, which made his placement feel so much worse. Meanwhile I really like Pot in +R & Strive but currently use Kliff & Goldlewis instead. I think I just don't like the #Reload approach as much as +R's, and for Strive it's just a mix of GL himself and the versatility of its RC that make me like it.
I love watching fighting game analysis videos while knowing nothing about them. Something about having a 5K/c.S 2H HFB SJ j.P j.K j.S ICPM thrown at me is pretty funny
