    In 2020, my 2003 computer build was excruciatingly painfully slow. It's wasn't the best time to build, but I did manage to get all the components other than the GPU. I put my name on the EVGA Notify for almost every GPU from the 3060 up. within 55 days I scored a 12GB 3060XC which was prior to the LHR production. I couldn't fault it for the most part, but it wasn't my ultimate for use with 2 UHD monitors.
    I recently 14months later received a notify for EVGA 8GB 3070FTW3 ULTRA. I didn't really think about it but jumped just to get one. I only had it in my hands for 2hrs when I received a notify for the EVGA 12GB 3080Ti FTW3ULTRA, which is rated for 4K. Fortunately I hadn't opened the
    3070 and was able to return it. It hurt to buy the 3080 card but the reality I would lose 4gb of memory if I didn't and still wouldn't have 4k was a big influencer knowing I definitely wouldn't be looking for a 3090 or 4000 series card any time soon even if I could get or even afford one.
    I know people look at many different factors when reviewing cards, but I think the loss of 4GB by going with the 3070 card is often not mentioned or pointed out as future proofing comparison especially when the 3090 has 24GB.

    • @WayneWebbFilms
      @WayneWebbFilms  Před 2 lety +2

      Tbh I think that the extra vram is just a gimmick. I heard a theory that they had an excess of those particular modules and threw them in. Yes granted, there could be situations where the extra vram could come in handy, but the performance of the 3060 just doesn't warrant it. For example, look at all those old AMD cards that had either 4gb or 8gb, performance was virtually the same and because the cards didn't have the grunt/potential to do high refresh or 4k it is kinda wasted. I've owned most of the cards and the 3060 was my least favorite, the 3060ti and above is what I recommend to people. I almost pulled the trigger on the 3080ti, but got a deal on a 6900xt AIO card instead. Part of me wishes I'd got the 3080ti.

    • @jbrou123
      @jbrou123 Před 2 lety

      @@Venomancerous Noisy or hot is a tradeoff. If you want the card to be quiet, it will get hot. If you want it to stay cool, it will get noisy. Fan curves can be customized. When doing everyday task, the card is silent in default mode, as the fans aren't running until it gets above 40C. But when game renders at 1440p or 2160p, the card heats to 65-70C quickly and you can definitely hear the fans. They are not too loud to be annoying. It's hard to explain, but I only hear rushing air, no high pitch sounds like the whine some high-speed fans produce.

Says there is no over heating issues or anything and he is willing to give me a warranty, should I be sketched out? (Price is a bit over msrp) but not breaking the bank, what are the main problems I should be looking out for when I install/play games on the card. (Will be paired with a 10600k)

    • @WayneWebbFilms
      @WayneWebbFilms  Před 2 lety +1

      He is either genuine or a total fraud. If he has specified 5hrs and there was any sign of dust, I wouldn't trust him because he's probably mined it or isn't be genuine. I would go to his house, get him to show it working in his machine. Run a game for 5 or 10 minutes, you don't need to play, just watch temps using HWinfo or MSI Afterburner and Riva Statistics. Alternatively you could use Furmark.
      If the card is noisy or the card is warm then he may have the fans turned up/down. You can set it to default etc in MSI Afterburner.
      Maybe ask to see a receipt, legally he wouldn't have to provide a warranty and trying to get it enforced could be tricky.
      When running the card, listen out for coil whine when the card is under load. Then get him to take the card out and inspect for damage of any kind.

    • @WayneWebbFilms
      @WayneWebbFilms  Před 2 lety +1

      The GPU will determine whether it's any good at 4k. The CPU normally comes in when you want silly frame rates at 1080p etc. That said, the better the CPU the better the performance but at 4k there won't be a massive difference. The 3600 is a really good CPU for its day, but the 5000 series is where you'll get a performance boost.
      60fps will depend on the game, level of detail etc. I would say that medium to high settings will be easily done. Ultra on less demanding titles.
      PSU is fine for the 3070ti especially if you're not looking to spend on an upgrade.

      What speed are your fans running at? What's your current case and how is it setup?

      @@WayneWebbFilms all my fans are the Coolermaster MasterFans ARGB, in a itx Thermaltake Fish tank lookin case. Its the coolest thing ive ever built, clean as all hell, with a Darth Vader figurine inside with red lights everywhere. So cool. but my gpu runs at 92c almost always while at load. havent touched any settings, fans at 100% power havent turned down cuz i cant even hear them with my speakers or headphones so loud usually.

      @@WayneWebbFilms case is called "The Tower 100". Even put a external 120mm fan on the bottom to give it positive airflow upwards instead of the designed negative air at the bottom portion of the case.

      @@christophtrispec3083 I almost bought this case myself and then heard the reviews about temps and then didn't. I'm currently using this and it's great www.newegg.com/black-ssupd-meshlicious-mini-itx/p/2AM-030R-00006 but I'm not sure it would hold your card.

      Jay is that you!? Why are you second guessing our deal?! BTW I saw bestbuy had a EVGA - GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING for 679. It literally lasted 1 min bc after refreshing it was gone...I still think the deal we got is better than that even since its a Ti plus a FTW edition.
