    Elijah Craig Small Batch is probably the best quality 25-30ish dollar bourbon. It has an unrivaled rich nose at its price range. Taste wise it is full in flavors but smooth. But not so smooth to make it seem weak. It just seems like a higher cost bourbon at a lower price. Four Roses Small Batch is in the exact same area but a little less smooth which gives a little more of a kick also with a great flavor profile. However For Roses Small Batch lacks in comparison to Elijah Craig Small Batch in the nose. Both of these are my go to bourbons in the 25-30ish dollar price range. My favorite bourbon of all time is the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof but it is in the 80-100$ price range.

    The only keeper I have that you're missing is OGD 114. I usually reach for a Booker's or a Knob Creek Single Barrel, but I also pour a lot of Larceny, and Jefferson's Ocean when I can score one of the cask strength releases. We currently have voyages 10 and 14 on hand. I hear many people say it's just a gimmick, but if so it's a tasty gimmick.

On the bourbon shelf I currently have the following; Old Tub B&B, Knob Creek 9 year old 100 proof , Henry McKenna B&B, Wild Turkey 101, St. Augustine Distillery Double Cask, Elijah Craig Small Batch, and Larceny. I'm just starting out and have yet to have an actual cabinet. Right now, I have (and love) open bottles of Evan Williams 1783 and Bottled-in-Bond. I also have a George Dickel Rye, a Bulleit Bourbon and a Bulleit Rye. (The Bulleits are 375 ml bottles that came together in a Frontier whiskey pack.) I'm starting more budget-friendly at the moment so I can build a small collection in fairly short order and so my wife won't completely lose it with me. Some of the bottles you mentioned aren't available here in Idaho, but I look forward to getting my hands on some of the others eventually.

Larceny, Evan Williams 1783, 1782, Knob Creek Small Batch, Russell's Reserve, Weller 107 Antique, Knob Creek Single Barrel, Old Fitzgerald, Henry McKenna, Elijah Craig.
    I would add Maker's 46 (the only Maker's I can stand), Rabbit Hill Bourbon, Four Roses Small Batch, Baker's and a very dusty bottle of Buffalo Trace I will NOT crack until I can find a replacement.
    Curious about the Belle Meade Cask Strength. Bought some Old Forester's 1920 Prohibition in Covington. NEVER seen Stagg, Jefferson Pritchard Hill, 1792 Full Proof, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Pogue, or E.H. Taylor.

    Honest question: why do you so strongly prefer the higher proofs? I’m not completely new to bourbon. I do completely love it. And I’m learning to appreciate the higher proofs. Sometimes I just feel like they’re so hot I don’t enjoy them as much. Just looking to expand my thinking.

    Hi and I am binge watching some of your videos today!! I noticed you guys are like me and have many many open bottles at any given time. Just wanted your opinion on how much difference you can tell when something sits for 2-3 years or more (opened and recorked). I noticed you said that handle of WT was from 2011....the reason for my question!! Great videos and information!! Thanks

    • @ItsBourbonNight
      @ItsBourbonNight  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks! We do see a difference if something has been opened for 2 or more years, depending on how low it has gotten in the bottle. Some bottles have lost their magic which is sad. The 2011 WT wasn’t opened until 2017 or 2018 though, just so ya know haha!

    • @ItsBourbonNight
      @ItsBourbonNight  Před 3 lety +1

      They can, yeah, if in direct sunlight for an extended period of time. Breaking Bourbon did a 2 year experiment with whiskey stored in different conditions. It’s worth a read. Scroll all the way down on their home page and you’ll see it. We don’t really keep our bourbon in this particular cabinet to keep it out of the sun, though none of our bourbon is stored in places that gets direct sunlight either.

I do have a question though, I am beginning to hear more about "Artisan" Bourbon's and Whiskey's and wanted to know your thoughts or if you have done a video on it already. Thanks. I have subscribed, hit the notification bell and hope to learn more about what you discuss and recommend.

    I agree with most of your picks but the Wild Turkey and Larceny. Not a fan of anything Wild Turkey all had strange same taste profile and Larceny is just a dud and falls flat for me.
    Woodford Reserve Double Oak is by far one of the best in my opinion and also Willet Pot Still Reserve. Willet 4 year rye is also a must in my cabinet. Then bout the same on other Angels envy, eagle rare, Blantons, makers mark 46, michers, knob creek etc.
