    A couple days ago i found 4 bottles of Henrry mackenna bottle in bond just hanging on the shelf at a grocery store for 40 dollars.
    I could have bought all 4 of the bottles but I would have felt a little guilty of being greedy. So I just grabbed two, went the next day and the other two were already gone.
    Moral of the story, don’t get desperate paying high dólar on the secondary market. There is a lot of good stuff on the shelf for retail and the time to find a rare bottle will come soon or later.

      Within a week i found 3 bottles at different places for around $33 per bottle. A couple of weeks later I found some more in smaller stores going for over $200 each. The lesson to be learned is to really know and understanding pricing and not overpay. As much as I enjoy Mck BiB 10, I would never pay near $100 for a bottle.

      Hell yea i was in the Shenandoah Mts in VA and i had a bottle of Tincup with friends over a fire and felt like a real lumberjack mountain man. Its was a nice cool night with lots of fireflies. Same goes for wine. My wife and I have raved about a wine we had in some romantic setting and then bought a bottle later only to wonder why it didn't measure up to our memory of it.

    Recently tried bookers, was lucky enough to pick it up when they were placing it on the shelves and it instantly became my favorite bourbon. Such complex flavors and for how high it is in proof it goes down like water. Really smooth and amazing a must buy or try for all whiskey lovers.

    Great list - just picked up a Rare Breed for $39.99 - what a deal. Booker's, ECBP, OF 1920 - clearly in my top 6. Knob Creek SB and Baker's - maybe too many Beam products? Stagg Jr - for the price ($60) would be on my list.

    Watching channels like this REALLY makes me wish I had a better bourbon selection at my liquor store. My choices are basically Maker's Mark (and sometimes Maker's 46 when they have it in), Bulleit, Woodford Reserve, and Jim Beam. Woodford is great (and one of my favourite whiskeys so far), but my choices are fairly limited.

    Excellent video and great recommendations.
    Only disagreement would be rare breed.
    Also, although not bourbon, I’d highly recommend 2 bourbon-like Japanese whiskeys.
    Nikka coffey malt & nikka coffey grain.
    Honorable mentions.
    Four roses limited edition
    Makers mark cask strength
    Willet bourbon in odd shaped bottle

  • @brentkuehne435
    @brentkuehne435 Před 4 lety +1

    Have a lot of barrel proof whiskeys in your selection. Personally they are a bit hot and woody for me. Production is much less expensive since you dump, 5 or 10 micron filter, then bottle. Your yields or lower since you don't proof down, so you don't have as much product per barrel. But all and all, its a cheaper product to produce. Not saying its cheap though. To me, proofing bourbons down to the 85 to 95 range brings out complexities and flavors you don't get with barrel proof. Love your videos and enthusiasm , look forward to your next videos.

    The only two I've had on that list were Blanton's and Booker's (2019-01, I believe). If I was able to splurge on a bottle of one of those, it would be the Blanton's. However, I wouldn't give up a chance to try some other releases of Booker's.
    Also, other podcasts or CZcams channels may have done this, but IMO (take it or leave it), perhaps a white label Beam or Old No. 7 Jack should be on a list of try before you die. That way you would have a "baseline" to compare rare or higher end whiskies to and be able to appreciate the differences in more mass market releases and more limited availability whiskies.
    Otherwise, great content as always.

    I agree that your number 2 Old Forester Prohibition should be tried but I have to say it's for a specific pallette. It for sure wasn't mine neither was Bookers. You have to love that proof cuz it overshadows the flavors in both labels. Other than that I'm sure there are two or three of these that I would love to try like Pappys so I can confirm that colonel taylor is much better. Also up for trying Rare Breed I started on turkey and moved on I would be happy to try one that might hit my pallette. Just saying. Nice presentation.

    Love the list.. had most of these.. one exception is the Old Bardstown. You guys think they are doing the blending better than Barrell? I have had about 6 Barrell expressions and they were all fantastic. Cheers...

    I may have missed it but what are your thoughts on OWA and Weller 12? I’ve been a fan of OWA for over 20 years and sad to see the price increase (in Kansas at least). Personally, It’s one of the best out there. We recently got Stagg Jr. and I’ve been getting as much of it as I can get my hands on. Rare Breed has been a Thanks Giving tradition for many years while cooking the turkey!

    I could agree with number one if it was expanded to any bourbon/rye barrel tasting in any state.

    Would love to try all of them, but can't get some on the West Coast. How about a list of bourbons available through out the country, or best bourbon from each state?

    • @ItsBourbonNight
      @ItsBourbonNight  Před 5 lety

      Best bourbon from each state is a topic we would love to tackle! We aren't really sure what bourbons aren't available in other areas, so it would take a lot of research to do the available everywhere bourbons list - but it would be a great list to do!

    So, if ECBP raises the interest of scotch drinkers, then we have to determine the scotch to bring over the bourbon drinkers.

      I was a scotch drinker long before I got interested in bourbon. Now I drink both (with scotch still having a slight edge). So I'd be very interested to see a little one-off video that features scotch whiskies, perhaps with a focus on those that might most appeal to bourbon drinkers.

      @@fosmith61 Ooo, I do like a good armagnac. See, I think JW Black has a noticeable peat presence. Not excessive by any means, but quite noticeable. I primarily drink single malts, but one can never discount blends as there are some fantastic ones out there.

    Up here in Canada, Booker's bottles don't have the batch nameson the label sticker or the story pamphlet you mentioned. We have to take em outta the box and Google the batch code in the liquor store. Annoying.

    I like the list but HMcK has too much variation. As for the HH bib since it’s been discontinued I think EW bib would have been a better option since you can find it on the shelf and it’s an incredible bottle for the $14 price.

    Definitely try the Henry McKenna BiB. Don't buy a bottle IMO but just try it at a bar. I bought a bottle from this year's run from April at $50 and wasn't impressed. Save yourself the money and try it. I should've taken that $50 and bought the OF 1920.

Every 1 I've had( 2 so far) are off the charts, IMO in other words the different batches are KEY when it comes to Single barrel whiskey, some are" meh" some R the absolute best you'll EVER have .in my good fortune I've never had a bad.McKenna BIB, cheers from ETn!

      @@richardbarrick5831 Man you're so lucky that you've never had a bad McKenna BiB. A couple of years ago there was a McKenna BiB review on youtube and one of the testers got visibly livid after having it. He must've paid a lot of money for the bottle. Do you remember the bottling dates of the Henry McKenna BiB you've enjoyed? A buddy of mine says the ones bottles in the fall are better vs the ones bottled in the winter and spring. The last couple I had were bottles in the winter spring and I can never get one bottled in the fall. I wonder if that was it. I just got bad winter and spring batches.
