One of my favorite opening of all time was when I saw them in Detroit in 2014. We drove 11 hours that day to attend the show. And they opened with
Release
Oceans
Nothingman
Just that opening was worth the drive
Nick Croce Wow what an set list opener that must have been!! I was st the rescheduled London show this week and they opened with Oceans. Such a great night!
Let's Play All yea it looked like an insane set.
Good freaking show. I was there too
Best Pearl Jam concert I’ve been to. That’s the third time I saw them in Detroit and that show blew the other two out of the water. Amazing time.
You probably dont give a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can stream all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother for the last couple of months :)
The intricate Genius of Stone on full display here with the funky Tuning.... Hardly anyone gets that right and it doesn't sound correct... Awesome work... And by funky tuning I mean the capo placement... Gossard was So Far ahead of his time...
Thanks Todd! Stone has had some amazing weird tunings through the years!
@@LetsPlayAll Amen!
You're my go-to Pearl Jam man, keep up the good work!
You Sir, nail all of their songs bang on. Thank you very much for doing this. Keep them coming!
Damien thanks very much, loads more to come, I’ll always try and get them as close as possible! 🤘
Thank you. 2 words for my understated gratitude
Brian Madden you’re welcome mate!
I've tried forever to find an accurate lesson for this song! You're lessons are amazing! Thank you very much.
Ryan Ritter thanks Ryan!
Mate this is awesome, sounds great and such a good lesson. Thx heaps
Chris S You’re welcome
Chris! Thanks for the comment mate 🤘😀
Awesome bro! Love it
Nick Croce cheers nick!
Best channel on CZcams right now
Rugger2 wow thanks man really appreciate it 🤘😀🤘
Best channel in entire youtube 😍
Ahh thanks Mayesh, very kind of you to say! :-)
thanks very much! It's no surprise that open chords were not really sounding right for the last 20 years i have been trying to play this!
Thanks! your tutorial are the best!!!!!
Thanks Arturo! 😊
Thank you very much.
the best
Inspired I am. Thanks for sharing. Even tried Drop D first, then 1/2 Step up at B/E abd then capo at 5. Then played along. Why? Who knows but Drop D worked. Make up new shapes. Cheers. Now off to Hope%Save it For Later/BetterMan Medley
These chords are gorgeous.. Almost as pretty as oceans.. Great lesson man.
Temple Slug amazing chord voicings aren’t they? Stone rocks 🤘🤘
Let's Play stone/mike without qurstion the best guitar duo ever. The way mike compliments stones riffs/chords with his leads is incredible. They truly work off of each other..
Temple Slug definitely mate, I’m going to do a little vid soon on why some of their riffs sound so amazing by analysing both guitar parts in the same vid 🤘😀
Once again thank you so much mate from Australia with love, ive never looked up a tutorial and ive played it on Guitar for 10 years without a Capo. Dumbass :p This is way easier to play and sounds soooo much better. Cheers to You Sir 👏🙌🤘👍
AusPearlJammer you’re welcome mate! good old Stone, he has such a cool approach to playing his riffs 🤘😀
Fantastic! Great tutorial. Managed to high five Eddie on Tues night! Mental such a memorable evening! Alex
guttulatus thanks Alex! No way that’s amazing!! You do realise you can never wash your hand again, right?! 🤘😉 Such a brilliant night!
It was so special. Especially when Stone played Mankind too! Great atmosphere!! Look forward to your next tutorial.
guttulatus Oo yes Alex that was another highlight, even though it kind of fell apart at the end haha! Love that tune....another one for the list to work out! 🤘😀🤘
Sounds perfect. No wonder why it never sounded right when I played it. Very odd and creative tuning. Thanks man
Tim McCarthy you’re welcome Tim! yea it’s clever tuning, no idea how Stone came up with that and the voicings are just lovely 😊
Let's Play All basically you could throw a capo on the first fret instead of tuning those strings up.... double capo 👍🏽
DividedByTime cool idea! I try to play them like PJ do so it’s as authentic as possible and this is how I believe Stone plays it. Double capo sounds pretty rad though!
Hooray! I’ve been eagerly awaiting this one for awhile. Thank you so much. One of my favorite songs they play live. Now I’m looking forward to the lesson for Mike’s parts that he plays in concert. Are you using any effects to get that tone in the lesson? It has a slight shimmery sound to it, almost like a chorus. Thanks again.
Martin Steiger hey Martin! Thought you might like this one 😀 Yup don’t worry I’ll do Mike’s parts too eventually! There’s a tiny bit of reverb from my amp but it’s the chord voicings and tuning that gives it that authentic sound. Stone uses a bit of whammy bar too on the F chord 🤘😀
Man you should play it v. straight fwd at least one time maybe at the end. Thanks for sharing!!
Carlos Zapata G. Hey buddy, you’re welcome! Yea this is an old vid so I do run through the riffs more clearly in more recent vids 😀🤘
I find it difficult to make the CAPO clip on without detuning or bending the strings a little. Would have loved a full play through at the end. Good video man. Appreciate it.
Yea I always need to retune after adding the capo, which is a bit of a pain when playing it live! Thanks for the feedback man 🤘😀
Great video. Love the worn Les Paul. Can you tell me a little about the guitar? I also noticed you have the branding covered. Any specific reason? Thanks - Jason
thanks Jason! it's actually an Edwards (Japanese made) LP copy of a Jimmy Paige model. The previous owner (who was AC/DCs guitar tech for many years) at some point put a gibson decal over it and then covered that over. No idea why :-) I'll be doing a vid to run through my guitars very soon so that may be of interest. Cheers!
Hi bro, i've seen your covers and i think they sounds very close to the studio version of Ten.... congratulations and thanks for the uploads!!! have you considered uploading the Mike's part of Black? i'm very interesting of this, all of the tabs (including the tab of the Mike's fan page) are wrong in some parts, especially in the chorus and the end solo. I hope you can upload a full cover of Black. Greetings from Chile!!!
Eduardo Peña Hey buddy! Thanks so much for your awesome comments and you’re welcome. I’ve been blown away by the feedback from my channel so thank you! As for Black, fear not as I’ve almost finished transcribing mikes parts! I’ll get a lesson and cover for this done soon so watch this space 🤘😀🤘
Let's Play All Thanks for your working!!! i will be attentive!!
Could you do a lesson for spin the black circle sometime? Thank you for all the lessons you have put up tho, it really helps and gives me something to do every afternoon haha
Haha you’re welcome! Yes indeed I’ll put up spin the black circle soon, been meaning to do that one for a while 🤘🤘
Let's Play All yay thank you :)
Don't know if you saw this yet - but here's STBC! czcams.com/video/1U9zD9g9_6M/video.html
Great job man! This is exactly the way it should be played. I never couldn't figure it out. It was the tuning😊 Damn Stone 😂 Stone used to play it live 1998-2000 on the electric guitar using an acoustic effect which to me sounded way better than current live versions. What do you think?
Yea stone does love some odd tunings haha
Who else is singing along, if not only in your head. :)
Who knew about that tuning?! I’ve been playing it wrong for years.
sticksman1979 glad it helped! Stones a genius with chord voicings
Let's Play All What other Vitalogy songs have you done? Could you do Hard to Imagine?
@@sticksman1979 I think i've done them all except Satan's Bed and Aye Davita/Foxymop....I'll get to them all eventually though mate! Come join us at Patreon if you want anything desperately though www.patreon.com/letsplayall - cheers!
Hey Matt - what capo are you using for this? All my capos wont do partial capo'ing. Will probably need tondonsong on acoustic so that may be a factor also!
I use this one mate amzn.to/2KiMW9s
the Pearl Jam God himself
Hi,Great stuff! How do you make your tabs?
Lk Kn guitar pro 😀
I always thought this was played with a full capo on 5th fret with the B and E strings both tuned to the same C (B up one half-step, E down four half-steps). Then you play C, Am, G, Am (but without touching those B and E strings (both F on 5th fret) then with low E 1st fret and A 3rd fret almost power chords. Then that two-finger power chord slides up and down and goes to 3rd and 5th and -1 frets for pre-chorus, bridge etc. Chorus being C, power chord 1st fret then 3rd fret (never touching those two bottom Fs). I dunno - it's simple to play and looks like Stone does it that way in videos I've seen.
agree, you can see it in this video clearly... czcams.com/video/QpZli3gAHII/video.html
Hi Matt! What pedal do you use to get Stone's sound here?
Hey Michal! This is just my amp so no pedals and i'm using the middle pickup position :-)
@@LetsPlayAll Thanks for a really quick answer! :)
@@michakubis2685 no worries!
Is there any chance that you have the tab to this song? Thanks.
Victor Azevedo hey buddy all Tabs are available over at Patreon 🤘😊
@@LetsPlayAll Thank you!
How did you get the capo to stay put on the arm?
It's a G7, they just stick where you put them :-)
Have I been playing this song wrong all along? I use a capo on the 5th fret but my tuning is EADGCE. I could’ve sworn that’s how Stone plays it live but how you play it sounds closer to the album. I’M SO CONFUSED.
07foxmulder yes mate. Yes you have 😀😉 I looked at loads of stuff online and watched vids etc and he’s strumming all the strings pretty nonchalantly and to my ears sounds like the album version. Playing Stones parts live without a guitar tech is hard work haha 😀
Let's Play All He’s got some ridiculous tuning. Who puts a capo on a select few strings? He does something similar on Life Wasted where he uses a capo but leaves the E string open. He’s definitely one of the best from the 90s.
07foxmulder absolutely mate! Really innovative and scarcely gets the credit. He’d make a useless guitar tech though haha 😉🤘
@@LetsPlayAll Hey
first of all, let me say that I love your channel. Thank you for all the amazing work you're doing!!!
Regarding Nothjngman, I've watched a bunch of Stone's videos.
He plays it with a capo on the 5th fret, but it's on all the strings, not just the 4.... I've tried a bunch of stuff with the 2 bottom strings, CE, CF, CC.... I really don't know what to choose... they all sound pretty good... what do you think?
Nadav Bonder thanks Nadav, i haven’t seen anything to suggest he plays it another way tbh and for me it sounds just like the album but go with whatever feels right for you buddy! 🤘😀🤘
For some reason I thought Jeff Ament wrote the riff for this song
Jeff is credited with the music for this one, but pretty sure this is Stones interpretation of the chord progression, but I could be wrong! If it is Jeff’s chord voicings then he’s more awesome than I already thought he was 😀🤘
I can’t hear what Mike plays in this recording.
Rather than tune up the bottom two strings why not just use two capos?
Cos i only have one capo haha :-) Valid option but you may get into issues tuning. With one capo not too tricky to fine tune any strings that may go sharp but with two it's another complication added to the mix :-)
@@LetsPlayAll I own 5 capos. I've tried it and it works fine. I've been playing guitar for 25 years and I've only ever had to retune poorly set up guitars when capoing. In most cases the guitar sounds well enough no one in the audience can tell the difference, and I think temporarily retuning two strings would cause its own tuning problems. I mostly just play live these days so speed matters, and I'm definitely not going to carry around an extra guitar that's only tuned that way.
Justin for sure, whatever works for you. I play it live with my tribute band Pearl Jamm and tuning the strings up doesn’t take long for me. Playing a full set of pearl jam tunes has so many bass changes and guitar retunes/guitar swaps that we can always find one where stone doesn’t play much at the end so I get time to sort out the capo etc 🤘😀
