i could watch this all night long, what a cast .........judd at his best, mickey o with the yips, the great kick across goal, cousins the heart and soul of west coast , old south fans with 72 yrs of losing , i heard a story of a guy (sth fan ) who had his mates urn in his lap to see the victory, don't know if that is true but it is a nice touch to what our game means to all of us. Respect

I'm an Eagles supporter, and I'll always look fondly on every single game these two played over that two-and-a-bit year period. It was definitely the most exciting era of football viewing for me.

For anybody watching this video who isn't familiar with Aussie Rules, that mark at the end by Leo Barry is one of the best marks in the history of AFL. Yes, Alex Jesaulenko's in 1970 will always be remembered as 'That Goal', but in the context of the game, for me, that is the greatest mark ever. I cried when I was watching this live back in 2005 and watching the highlights today brought another tear to my eye! Just a fantastic effort by the Swannies!

One of the two most epic Grand Finals of the modern era. 05-06 Eagles-Swans rivalry will never be matched. I felt so much sadness after losing the 05 epic but the sweetness of revenge in 06 in yet another epic. Both teams deserved a Premiership.

Umm, it happens because some of us were born before 1990, and remember the bad old days when Sydney were perennial wooden spooners. They only won one game in 1993 from memory. I was 14 then, and remember it well. I've been barracking for my team, Adelaide since they entered the comp in 1991. 6 years of pain, then back to back premierships, a bit more pain for a while, a bit of success in the mid 2000s and a minor premiership in 2005, Should have had 4 flags by now.
I've been spoilt with the Crows being in the finals most years, but I love them whether they win or lose. You have to be able to feel the pain of your team getting beaten and having some bad years to really enjoy it when they get to a Grandie and win a premiership. It's the ultimate reward for loyalty, and makes the intense euphoria of finally winning all the more intense,
I'm a tigers fan, but I love watching this game. It's the day AFL truely became a national game. Well done swans. Hope there's more to come. (But not against the Tigers, though!!)

We really made Demetriou look like a fool that year! Just shows that you don't need the flashiest players to win a flag -- just tenacious and courageous players! I don't care what anyone says -- the "flooding" tactic worked so well with our type of players; and it created so much space I50 for Hall, O'loughlin, Davis and O'Keefe.
Literally no sporting event can be compared to the AFL Grand Final

So was '97 and '98. Wasted 4 chances to be in GFs since then as well. Still, better to not be in one than to lose one. We were lucky last year to finish as high as we did, so I don't know if we were quite there. We'll never know now.

Hopefully we'll give it a good crack in 2011. Hanneberry, Jetta, Mumford and Jetta are looking the goods. All players under 25. Mitchell (17) coming into the side is an added bonus. Plenty to be excited about if you're a bloods supporter. I predict we'll have one of the best midfields in the comp in the next few years.

The Whoreks, too. Last year. And the Weegles, twice - in 05 and 06. 05 was our best chance at a flag as minor premiers. If only we could trade 2 wins in the home and away for 2 in September '05.

I know that we've been your bogey team in the past, but the Pies have been the bane of the Crows for 23 years with a 12-23 record. I think it's a similar story between Sydney and Adelaide. We thrashed youse in a few of those games, so this year was Swans' revenge, I guess.
Whenever i think of this day i always think of the words "LEO BARRY YOU STAR"
My team should have had their third premiership in either of those years. Swans and Eagles were a great rivalry, though.

I barrack for a South Australian club. Believe me, the bias, and grudging respect the Crows get is far worse. Still, I look at it in a good way, because being underrated, the Sports betting crowd pay bigger odds for Crows wins. One guy put a grand on the Crows for the ;97 flag when they were 13th on the ladder early in the season, and they paid $100, or something outrageous for the Premiership. risky bet, but he won 100 Grand that year.
@lilmitty I'm a little skeptical about Rohan, but Kieran Jack will be one of the all-time greats at the swans. So yeah, stupid of me to leave him out. ;) Kennedy and McGlynn... wow... the Hawks should be kicking themselves right now.
Actually, mate, I just realised what you meant by the question "Are you talking about the Hawks?" No, Hawks were cellar dwellers and easy beats in the late 90s. They were rubbish then, and only really recovered in the late naughties.
In 97 and 98, I'm talking about Adelaide. I've been barracking my heart out for them since their first trial game in their inaugural year in 1991.

Hawthorn were actually wooden spoon candidates in 1997. 15th (second last) and 13th in '98. Pity they couldn't stay there. I hate the flogs.

the 2012 Grand final was ours period we just let it slip we had a 10 point lead i think it was in the 4th quater and we lost it Sewell 2 points could of been goals Hodges fuck up could of been a mark witch led to a mark Hawks still have a better percentage then the swans and were gana do what we did in 1988 and 1989
its funny because eagles should have won the 2005 grand final and Swans should have won the 2006 grand final but meh 1 all is a good result
