- I restored this Mid Century Modern Telephone Bench for #CZcamssBiggestMCMChallenge It was very tired with many deep stains and marks in the wood. The woven seagrass seat required so much work that I decided to reweave it, it was a great to learn a few new skills. I was very happy with the final result. Please let me know what you think in the comments.

I was screaming "No don't cut out the seat"! I cannot believe you two wove a new seat! It looks beyond amazing. I absolutely love it, and if it stands the test of a baby, you know it will hold up. Great job!
I was screaming that in my head as I was cutting ;) Haha!! I am pleased you love the result, thank fully it all worked out! Thank you for watching!
Spoiler alert lol. I read this during a commercial 🥴
Beyond amazing is definitely correct
Great teamwork. Extra respect to your missus for trying so hard not to look p*ssed off on camera.
She really appreciated this comment, thank you :) She did very well!!!
Amazing restoration! Kudos to your lovely wife for her weaving skills. That is the cutest Quality Control Inspector I have ever seen!
Thank you, very kind. He is the cutest for sure!
Bloody brilliant mate👍
The chief testing and inspection officer is so cute!!!💕
I agree :) Thank you for watching!
Great job!! Your lovely wife is a good sport and a dedicated partner to spend 4 hours weaving on your anniversary!! I can't help but think that pajamas and wine helped seal the deal!!
Thank you very much, they certainly helped ;) We appreciate you tuning in!
Omg!!! The weaving. 😜
Your Son's approval was priceless. The piece looks fantastic.
😊 thank you, appreciate that
Thank you for saving this gem from the landfill. I sure didn’t see any hope for the old girl, but she will live a long life now. She’s beautiful!
Flipping Draws brought me here! ✊🏾
Woohoo, thanks Jay! and thank you for stopping by :)
🤩🙏
Flipping Drawers brought me too..what a fabulous outcome to the challenge you guys did..enjoying them all
I found the list and told it to play them all. I’m late so the winner has probably been picked. Lol
Me too 😊
Being born in 1950, I saw a lot of telephone tables in peoples homes. Typically, they were in the front hall and receiving a call was an EVENT! It wasn't until much later (1960's) that phones were hung on a wall or the princess phones appeared in bedrooms. Anyway, they became useful as plant stands and as a place to sit and put on shoes etc. Your renovation is beautifully done and I love how the dark espresso stain masks the water mark. Well done! 👌💖
Thank you very much! I am sure it feel like just yesterday you were attending an "event" in the front hall, it is crazy to see how things have evolved. I do miss fighting with my sister to answer the phone as a child. Thank you for tuning in :)
Ah, thanks for answering why it was fixed. Born in 1963 and the space was smaller
That weaving with your wife was fantastic! I think you both did a wonderful job of it. Well done and happy anniversary!
Thank you very much, we really appreciate it :)
I admire yours and your wife's patience with the weaving! It looks fantastic, well done :)
Thank you, we really appreciate your kind words :)
The weaving of the new seat was a definite success.
What a beautiful restoration for this sad bench. Kudos to your lovely wife and hugs to your darling boy.
Thank you very much, we appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment :)
I still have 4 videos to go, but this is my favorite so far, because you took on weaving that seat having never done it before. Your wife is a great sport for agreeing to do this on your anniversary, and you both did a wonderful job!
Thank you very much, we all appreciate you tuning into watch the challenge. My wife and I appreciate your kind words :)
Loved your video, made me laugh when you roped your wife in for an anniversary weave. She’s a star. Great job all round.
Hi Cole, stunning work buddy and Kudos to your wife for mucking in 😀👍👍
That woven seat is fantastic. You both did an excellent job, and noone would know it was your first attempt.
Man I have seen a bench like this in a really long time. Looks gorgeous. Love that even though landline phones are as common as they used to be, this furniture can still be used for either a food tray, laptop, or something thing to lay your arm on while scrolling through your new age phone 😂
Когда начали срезать верёвки - я посчитала, что его восстановить невозможно. Но вы справились и даже достаточно остроумно спрятали большое и некрасивое пятно. Прекрасная работа!
The dark stain was a wonderful choice. This is quite a transformation. Your wife is such a blessing!
I found you through the challenge. Thank you for taking part in this challenge.
I've done about a dozen woven chairs using this seagrass and have found that if you soak the grass in water before weaving, the seat retains it's firmness better over time.
Your quality control inspector is better looking than any I've ever seen!
Thanks for keeping this lovely piece out of the landfill!
Cutting that weave was so satisfying!!
Beautiful work!!
Yes it was! Thanks mate :)
Great job, your wife has the patience of a saint doing all that weaving and the little guy was such a cute inspector!
Thank you, yes I agree - very lucky!
I did 27 years in the Antiques restore business.. never be afraid to mix stain colors.. I would have done the stained shelf in an ebony stain, the slats and the front bar, the rest in that nice dark chocolate color.. loved the anniversary weaving.. lol..
Your chief Testing and Inspections Officer is pretty darn adorable! 😊
I think this is true love encompassed in a furniture restoration video. The fact you and your wife weaved this piece back into life is amazing/
You are blessed with a very gracious weaving partner and adorable inspector.
I love telephone benches. My grandmother had a gorgeous one, probable in a landfill. Looks fabulous and your baby agrees!
This turned out so good I really love the contrast between the darker wood and the light colored weaving!
Kudos for getting the whole family involved too ❤
Into my fifth video in the challenge series..I just loved your phone bench and the weaving with dark stains really did take it to the next level. Your beautiful wife having a go on your special day made it one of my favourites so far.
You have done a great job on this, and your wife is also amazing for helping you on what should have been a romantic night, but weaving it was
Hello Cole 😊 I watched your video with great pleasure. I also loved the restoration piece ❤️ And especially the knitting part of the video and your family are very beautiful. Your son is so cute 😊 Great work 👏👏👏
Now all you need is a vintage phone! ❤Fabulous work! Thank you for posting! ❤
You’re funny 😂 awesome job mate and I learned something new too 💪🏻👌
Thanks Jay, really enjoyed this challenge and can't wait for the next one!
@@flipitnation 💪🏻👻
Your son is adorable! Beautiful job on the phone bench. I love pieces like that. So nostalgic!
Such a great piece! Now your son has a chance of knowing what a rotary telephone is! Kudos.
The chocolate stain with the light grass weave looks amazing!
It turned out gorgeously, you would never know it was a renovation...great job.
Just wonderful! Your baby boy is absolutely adorable and you have a great wife! Happy Anniversary!! The phone stand is gorgeous!
I am with the Quality Control Inspector here 👏🏻👏🏻 Very enjoyable to watch your restoration, especially the weaving, it was definitely the right choice. Great job!
Beautiful work. How wonderful to have your wife helping. And omgosh, THAT is a beautiful baby❤
I was born in 1950 n grew up in the 60tys n I remember those telephone seats in fact we had one but I’ve never seen a seat weaved. You did awesome job on this . Many kudos to you n your wife for doing the weaving. It looks great. That had to take more time than anything else. Love the color of stain up picked. I’ll give you a big 🌟for this piece.
♥️♥️😊👍👍👏👏🌟
You owe your wife a major dinner out for helping you with the weaving which was spectacular BTW! Whole job was great. I'm impressed you even tackled this piece!
And that baby is sooo cute!!!
Amazing job...it is beautiful. Well, well done again!
Thank you so much 😀
This is a beautiful restoration! The telephone pad looks quite good. It was a brilliant plan to choose a dark chocolate stain. These kinds of projects are a wonderful thing to share with your spouse. Congrats on your anniversary!
This bench is BEAUTIFUL before you started. It's so cute. You could weave leather for a seat..
Restoration is incredible! Can't imagine why anyone would paint it! However, the videos and camera work are beyond wonderful. Keep it.
I found you through the MCM challenge. Thank you so much for taking part.
The darker stain is a wonderful choice, and I like what you did to transform the shelf. This is quite a transformation!
Give your wife and son a big hug. She’s definitely a blessing!
What an adorable family!! Love your wife helped you with the netting, what a beautiful restoration Cole, Simply beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much :) I am very lucky 🤗
You did a TERRIFC job refinishing this piece! You were very lucky it was a solid wood piece instead of veneers. Those burl wood doors are beautiful!❤
Final results were excellent. I would not have guessed that you never had weaved a seat before.
This is fantastic! Well done on that weaving job. You also clocked the screws, didn't you? Gold star for that detail! 🏅
The suspense was killing me. The "before" bench was such a wreck, it was hard to see how any amount of work could redeem it, but I agree with the Quality Control Inspector on the result. The weaving looked like it was as much of a marital challenge as wallpapering together, but you two did a great job. Your choice of stain really camouflaged the damaged table top and the seat certainly draws attention away from it. Well done.
Your wife is a saint and your wee boy is adorable. Great job. Re-weaving was the hard, but correct, call.
My grandparents had a similar bench and I loved it when I was little.
WOW !!!
You practically rebuilt this unit it looks Amazing well done xx
Sea grass - the most gorgeous aroma on Earth. Some 50+ years ago, my Mum gave me the job of restoring a little stool with fresh sea grass. The aroma is the most memorable part of it. I inherited the stool as part of my parents' estate and it's standing in front of me right now - still 100% usable. My restoration weave has lasted longer than the original.
Great job! I enjoyed doing this challenge with you all! 🎉
Cheers Anders, can't wait for the next one!
You and your wife did a great job weaving. The whole piece turned out great! Also, what a cool piece of furniture.
That sea grass seat weaving was the best! You two did a great job. It is so attractive. And, it made for a very memorable anniversary date. Your finished project was a 360 degree turn around. The before was so ugly, and the after so beautiful. What a save on the horribly stained writing table. I hope you kept the piece.
Well done! Your wife is a good sport, Happy Anniversary! That weaving was quite the undertaking. Love your inspector too!
You and your wife did a remarkable job on the weaving. Looks great.
The little one at the end is adorable.
Love this. Especially the clever masking of that awful stain.
Great job. Looks fab. Well done to you and your Mrs on the weave.
Great job! I'm so glad you took the old weaving out because it gave you the opportunity to redo the wood properly! The reweave was time consuming but an absolute beauty when you completed it.
😊FANTASTIC WORK! GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY!!
I'm a weaver and am impressed with the redo of the seat. Looks great.
Good job, knew you could do the seat, they are easy enough, just time consuming. Nice to have someone to help you out though, that helps! Looks like new.
Dude, oh my gosh, YA DONE GOOD! Sweet Wife, Baby Bubba, your passion... don't stop what you're doing, YOU ARE AWESOME!! 💪
Thanks so much mate, very kind of you! Cheers for tuning in :)
Positively beautiful.
Thank you :)
The refinished bench is absolutely beautiful. The weave is excellent and the stain now looks like a pattern in the wood. Great work! 👍👍
putting her to work , she must really love you .lucky guy
That turned out beautiful. You and your wife did an awesome job on the weave. Such a little cutie tester
It looks great, you have done an amazing job with the weaving, you will have to take your wife out somewhere special for the help she gave you x
That turned out quite nice! There was a jewel under that old paint.
Trudno uwierzyć że udało się Panu odtworzyć to siedzisko - brawo dla Państwa ❤
I fell in love with this bench at first sight. I suppose under the shelf where the telephone would be placed would be the telephone directories. It was always a problem to have a nice cozy spot to have a chat at that time.
Today, I can see this piece plus a cushion or two used to read, your current books close at hand - or maybe for writing notes on your day. Slpendid good work in restauration, loved it!!
That is a cleverly put-together piece of furniture! Very elegant!
A beautiful project, I would have liked to have done it myself😅. An impeccable result. Good luck on the mcm challenge
Thank you Luca, I appreciate your kind words. I am watching your restoration tonight, looking forward to it. I know it will be amazing!
Look's great Mate, where would we be without our wife's great job all !!!. 😀😀😀.
You got that right! Thank you :)
Turned out so beautiful! I like the two tones look , you and your wife did a great job. You'll have a precious bundle of joy😍
Great teamwork! Such an interesting piece!! Thanks for entering the contest so we can see your exceptional work.
Очень красиво. Удачи Вам и Вашей семье.
Большое спасибо за просмотр
Team work every time - and a gorgeous baby too !
Looks awesome! I havent seen a telephone bench in a million years 🥰
For stains that won't come out of a re-finish job, my Great Aunt taught me a trick. Grab some Lace Goods and you can tape (or tack) down the whole bit of fabric over the surface, and then tape newspaper or craft paper over it with a diamond, circle cut out of the paper, and use a spray can of colored stained that's darker (almost black) and spray it over the Lace Goods with the Paper Masking. You get an intricate pattern, it might be blurry, but... once you add a coat or two of clear finish over it the stain just appears to be part of a faint design. She did it with paint to, just using black paint and putting a black painted edge on things so it looked really fancy.
Wow! What a challenge. The weaving was amazing. You did a great job of concealing that nasty stain.
@flipitnation well done...both on the furniture and including the family! Babies are very tactical...meaning they checking out different textures. The way he checked it out...he's going to give you "a run for your money " as the saying goes...he's clearly intelligent! Keep him challenged.
Thank you so much, he gives us a run for our money daily! Cheers for tuning in and taking the time to comment 😎
i love the bench you did a fabulous job on it and you have a very beautiful family and your little boss is the best i've ever seen
Beautiful collaboration there with the seagrass weaving. A hint for removing stains on wood in the future: Oxalic acid, and for that matter bleach as well, works more efficiently if you lay the wood down, SATURATE it with the acid (or bleach) and then WRAP the wood in thick plastic (if you are able to), put a block on top of it all and let it sit for several days, allowing the acid or bleach to soak in and do it's work. Do not let it dry out.
The way this piece was joined together was interesting! This is a great restoration.
What a change! And y'all seem to have been enjoying the experience...I consider that equally important as these pieces are restored! Bravo!
This looks absolutely incredible, like a very expansive designer piece.
This piece of furniture is a beauty, thank you for restoring it!
Hands down you have won🎉, for a lot of reasons, your work, and your family❤
Thank you so much! That is very lovely of you :)
That was AWESOME!! You guys did such a great job!!!!
The best so far your patience getting that seat re woven and perseverance getting that stain out of the little table were above and beyond 10 out of 10
Totally drooling over this seat. Absolutely stunning and bloody hard work, especially all the sanding and weaving the seat!! (Never again, eh?) thank you so much
Nice work. Lovely family. Very nice of your wife to help out.
