  • The coronavirus catapulted us into an unprecedented, uncertain and unnerving way of life. We have experienced social isolation, physical distancing, life and work disruption, illness, fear and anxiety, death, loss of income and loss of personal freedom and movement. And now, we are faced with unfamiliar territory to navigate-re-entering a world that is different from the one we left. How do we leave the safety of our homes and move back to what we did before, or do we? Our expert panel explores how we can successfully navigate the transition to a new normal lifestyle in the wake of COVID-19 in the 6th webinar of the series on Performing Artists' Mental Health. In this webinar Nancy Kadel, Peter Lewton-Brain, Paula Thomson and Bonnie Robson discuss getting the mind and the body prepared for returning to activity.

The Performing Artists’ Mental Health and COVID-19 Webinar Series, under the auspices of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, offers free weekly webinars on mental health for performing artists, and the multidisciplinary professionals who work in performance science, medicine, education and psychology. In these extraordinary times, extraordinary and creative measures are needed to help performing artists and all of us cope with the disruption and challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. In this webinar series, experts in mental health, and performance health and well-being provide insights, practical tips and sage advice for those helping performers and for performing artists themselves. Our mission is to help people help themselves and others. We have years of professional training and we acknowledge that mental health will be affected by the difficult times we are in and that we will face through this pandemic. There are simply not enough mental health workers to go around, and so, we believe that helping individuals help themselves is the way forward at this time. Therefore, we offer our years of experience in these webinars for you to use and share as you like. We sincerely hope that you find something useful to help you cope and move into a resilient mode of being. We share this with our deepest respect for your talents, passion, artistry, challenges and unyielding ability to rise, flourish and thrive again.

These webinars are extremely useful, and I would love to share them with my dance students. I wonder whether there could be a little more diversity in the panel for these discussions.
