This is why I like Conan. When you have a great guest like this man, you just shut up and listen. If this were a Fallon interview, he would've interrupted him at least 6 times and fake laughed through the whole interview.
Fallon is the biggest trying-hard late-night host ever.
You're right, in this case, anyway. Conan is second to Fallon in the exaggerated fake laugh department, but he zips it up while Kingsley is talking here.

That’s not true. Kimmel and Colbert are more the ones to interrupt because they try to make the show about them and be funny.
@@TheWelchProductions I don't watch any of those shows much at all, but I think you're totally wrong here. I think Kimmel and Colbert are more decent interviewers than Fallon by far. Colbert in particular has on quite a few political guests that I've seen clips with, and he usually handles them with the right tone and probing questions that give the guest a chance to speak for a minute or two without interruption or stupid jokes.
Such a well spoken man. You have no choice but to respect him for the way he presents himself. Love Ben Kingsley!

This is the first time I have seen Conan this quiet and attentive.
He is one of the few that can play it silly or serious and nails both. I LOVE that in actors.

I was at this show! Coco was sick but he kept on keeping on.
Interesting backstory from Kingsley. His way of training and working makes great sense after that Shakespearean background.
Fun Fact : He changed his name from Krishna Pandit Bhanji to Ben Kingsley. Its a shame he had to change his Indian name to make it in show business back then.
And John Wayne's real name was Marion. A lot of movie stars changed their names to help make them more "bankable"; people like Michael Caine, Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, Lauren Bacall, Whoopi Goldberg, Kirk Douglas, Meg Ryan, Dean Martin, Judy Garland, Charlie Sheen, Ginger Rogers... the list goes on forever and they still do it.
Often they anglify their names, like Kingsley, to reach a wider audience. Sadly it seems to work. Apparently we want our idol names as catchy as breakfast cereal. If they want success in showbiz a sellable name is often key.

I think it's probably more to do with casting directors being lazy than audiences being racist. If you're Krishna Pandit Bhanji, you'll probably spend your career playing Middle Eastern roles; suicide bombers, mystics and shopkeepers. Same goes for Oscar Isaac Hernandez

It was impossible to do anything else... except not have the Mandarin as a character. They'd get in too much shit having an Asian villain. With that in mind, they did fantastically.

It's natural to relate with your dad and you can also find someone old that you can relate to. But I am puzzled that you don't get what I am saying. The bigger the age gap the harder it is to connect with someone. Younger people may find your story boring if you are older. Also they may think your approach to be simplistic and may not recognize some of the mile stones in your story. This is natural. How many 73 year olds hang out with 20 year olds. (when not related)
