Using No Planaria

  • This is a quick guide on using the product No Planaria. One thing you will want to take note of is that you have to take any carbon out of your filter before using this product.
If you have a big outbreak of Planaria, don't just rely on this product to fix your issue. You have to find the source of the issue, which is most likely overfeeding, and correct it.
You can find No Planaria on eBay for about $15. It is definitely worth the purchase as it will be plenty until it expires, which for me was about 2 1/2 years after purchasing it.

Thanks for telling me that the package contains a spoon. No where on the package does it say it includes a spoon. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out that they meant by a "spoonful".

This stuff is awesome for getting rid of trumpet snails and hydra. Shrimp, assassin snails and rams horn snail don’t get effected at all. Love it.

I wish it did kill ramshorn. It also kills Nerite snails, which I could not find all of them till it was to late. But yes, a great product. Made from the Betel Nut tree...

I've used No Planaria for a few years now. I was raising hundreds of shrimp at one time. Over 500 cherry reds in one tank. And never had a problem. Worms are gross, no matter what type. Detritus worms are supposedly in most all tanks. Specially a heavily planted older tank. This does not kill Detritus worms. People mistake them for Planaria worms. If you have a huge outbreak of Detritus worms, you are feeding your fish to much. In summer, I use a lot of rain water. And even though I do my best to keep a fine screen over the rain barrels. Certain creatures make it to my tanks. Most, the fish eat, or are no problem and part of the ecosystem. To me, the worst creature is the Dragonfly nymph or damselfly nymph. And No Planaria wont kill them. Some nymphs can live 5 years before becoming an adult. And a fair sized nymph can grab a male guppy and bite it in half. If you find one nymph, you probably have up to a dozen. Hard to see. I use a turkey baster to catch them. But they can be fast. Oh, by the way. Never use a razor and cut Planaria in half against the glass or a rock, thinking that will kill them. They are very unique. You can cut one Planaria into 279 pieces, and each piece will regenerate a new head and tail. 🤨

The only filter you would want to remove is your carbon filter, since it would remove any medication from the water.

This medicine is very strong. It did not harm any shrimp or fish. However, killed almost everything else. From snail to water flea. You might think that is good thing. However, those are good clean crew for my tank. Suddenly breaking the balance may lead to algae issue. I can maintain much higher PAR value for my planted tank with water flea on helping clean up green spot algae. After apply this, I have to reduce the strength of the light to avoid the issue. Also, I tried to re-introduce snails back to the tank after three weeks of 40% water change. Snails still cannot stand. From this stand point, I will no longer use this produce in my planted display tank. It is more suitable for a quarantine tank. On a side note, this medicine does not remove flatworms with round head (not classified as Planaria, which is another drawback for me).

I just dosed my tank. It's a five and a half gallon tank that has 1 beta 4 yellow back shrimp and some snails mixed in with plants and moss. If any of these die I will post it here.
Thanks for the tip on the product.
Edit: the next morning 3 out if 4 shrimp were floating. I quickly tossed them into a spare tank and they began to move. No idea if they will make it. I also moved my beta though he looked ok.
I am thinking and baby shrimp that hatched are in peril. They are too small to see so I don't know.
My tank is only a 5.5 gal tank.
Looks like Hydra might be gone. I will look closer.

I know this is a year old comment. But unless you accidentally added to much, I can't believe the Shrimp died. If you look at videos from some of the BIG Shrimp Breeders, even they use No Planaria. I used to breed Shrimp, and have had over 500 in one tank. Added No Planaria without incident.

I have pet scuds in a bowl. But planaria are there. They’re related closely to shrimp and technically are. Is the chemical scud friendly? I don’t want to lose the daphnaea or scuds.

It is so hard to kill scuds. I went to war with them in one of my tanks and they are some of the hardiest fellas out there. I have used this stuff before and it seemed to have absolutely 0 impact on scuds in my tank lol

This is great stuff but read the instructions. Get that little spoon out of the packet. I have RCS, Neons and a swordtail fry and they are alive and well. Bladder snails have gone too.
EDIT: After 2 months I am back and I was surprised I had already viewed this. Planaria are back so I wanted to check on instructions. I had an idea that it can take O2 out of the water but may have got that mixed up with something else. The last time all my bladder snails went and I have never seen them again.

well the PH of our spring water is 6.2- GH is 5 - KH is 6 and TDS is 173. my water PH was at the time 7.0 because i had white sand for soft water and yes i did the change of water right after the first day because the PH rised to 8.4-8.6 and i had cristal red and black with golden and snow white bee in one aquarium in the other one i had red rili they didn't dye but in my third one ultra red cherry and cherry- pumpkin did dye . so yes it can be dangerous, depending what is in ur aquarium. better do a test in a bowl before doing it in ur aquarium, unless u don't care. and no i didn't not over dose the aquarium.the planaria went in the sand and did not all dye also, like the snails. it says on the package --NOT DANGEROUS FOR SHRIMPS --. it's a LYE.

    • @aquariumaddict4734

+chantal duchesne It's the pH swing that killed them. My pH didn't change when I used it.

    • @kevinoconnell8242
      @kevinoconnell8242 Před 5 lety

TDS and GH are generally the same thing in drinking water sources. That said TDS of 173 is GH of 8. KH is a portion or part of the GH so if you have a gh lower than the KH you have a gallon of water in a cup, not possible. None of this makes sense. PH over 7 will kill a CRS in minutes as well.. any caradina.

i know that's what killed my shrimps but if i would of not used it , they would still be alive. it's because i used that no-planaria. it's not true that it will not be dangerous. u have to test ur water in another container first just to be sure that something like that does not happen.i'm just saying that if it happen to me, i'm sure it did happen to others.the no danger is not true.

What kind of shrimp do you have? Did you overdose? Did you do a water change after the 3 days? What are your parameters like? Depending on what kind of shrimp you have, which some are more sensitive than others, and depending on what your water parameters are like, that can have an affect on the shrimp.
