I think what I miss a lot about “old yugioh” was how slow it was. The interaction between players trying to establish a solid board. It’s a mind game man.
Edison format is way too fun

Yep nowadays I’m pretty much just watching my opponent play a game of solitaire for 10 minutes with all these meta decks

It was "slow" while playing with friends, but at tournaments you would still lose by turn 3 or 4.
Hey Sam, would love to see you build a deck with Soom and see you to play at your locals one night and see how you get on, would love to see soom with his own new updated hero deck and see him play other people. I think it would be a great video.

Old Yugioh: Alot of Monster, Spell and Trap cards can be useful while some are not but overall you can use any cards
New Yugioh: This card only works well in a certain archetype
The old cards still exist and most of them are still legal to play. Its not like anyone forces you to make an archetype deck. Its just if you go for archetypes you get the maximum power creep yugioh has to offer.

Advantage of old packs is they are flexible with other old packs. New packs are too specific that cards on it need to be on their proper archetypes. Good video btw, keep up the good work and always have fun Sam!
Yes, thats why Sneak Peeks sucks nowadays. You sometimes cant barely even get 20 cards from 5 Boosters that are at least not dead in the deck.
I haven't played Yugioh in years, but how humble you guys are and the amount of brotherly love you guys show always brings me back to this channel.
Problem with the new packs is you always need to open like a few boxes of one set to get all the cards you might need for an archetype.
We can see this in the video, the og player got more "sinergized" cards

@@AttilaVoices right. i like the back and forth anime style multi turn battles. not just setting up a ton of Omni negates and board wipes on turn 1 after 20 minutes and then your opponent just loses. rather 20 1 minute turns than 1 20 minute turn.

Great video guys!!! Might be common knowledge but does Yu-Gi-Oh! seems like it’s been transitioning to focusing on types and archetypes inside of like the general game state and and merging core mechanics. These new packs seem to reflect that.

Honestly I like the old better than modern. Like Goat formats. Since it was more fast paced than now day while it slow paced and waiting on your opponents to finish up combos, summoning etc. Had a duel few time where my opponent take FOREVER to end his turn, it got me to the point where I couldn't careless about dueling modern format anymore but just to collect cards. While goat was fast paced and more fun
Pigeonholing Books of Spell has been renamed by the way, a card for an archetype printed waaaay before the actual archetype was released, Spellbooks. Also this first printing works the opposite way it does now actually, Spellbook Orginazation is now for your own deck, and not your opponents.
That was fun to watch, thank you for being so fun while dueling.
OLD school Yugioh! for life. Nowadays it's like Konami mainly makes cards that the effect can only be used with the same Type or attribute. So building a mix deck can be a headache. Would love to see them make new cards that resemble the oldschool
Look at the Link monsters.
They have to make a new format for that because archtype decks are simply much more powerful than a deck made of generic cards.

Do the same thing, but do old vs. Old, 1 pack of each. Same format. It was pretty cool seeing random cards in a deck and dueling it out, rather than having something like Duel Night. Duel Night is cool, don't get me wrong, but playing random cards you get from 1 pack of each is even better in my opinion. Makes you really have to think about what kind of deck your building haha

I miss cards like cosmo queen and serpent night dragon. Those use use be my strongest boss monsters next to blue eyes and dark magician, ooohhh guardian angel Joan use to he one of my favorites
Technically in the meta game the best one was Summoned Skull non of those were used.

Was really hoping to see Soom play Bubble Beat against Sam's Dark Magician Deck.
I’ve seen some interesting decks pop up like skill drain beatdown and dragon link is making a bit of a comeback. Also synchro spam is still alive as ever.
I think its cool how they both got berserk gorilla in a way. New and old cards but yet somehow one monster manages to be on the artworks of new and old.
I was expecting sam to do some crazy combo and summon 5 stars monsters in the first turn 😂

To be honest,I'm really lost in space when I was back again to play yugioh through duel links because I thought it would be enjoyable and fun to play anywhere. Sadly, those new gen yugioh just kills the vibe from back in the old days.

Gouki Guts, War Rock Gactos, War Rock Skyler , Crusted Calcifida, King Beast Barbaros, Hraesvalgr, honestly, that's super solid as far as a small pool of sealed product goes. Shame he didn't pull any Rank 4s for the Vespenato, but that's a lot of monsters that are just 'really' hard to deal with. If he gets rid of Gactos it floats into Skyler and then Skyler can just permanently bring Gactos back, as well as that Gouki Guts, which is SUPER tough to get rid of in it's own right, and then Barbaros and Calcifida are just phenomenal beatsticks than are crazy easy to get onto the field, and have really relevant effects to-boot, Calcifida being able to Foolish an Earth-Warrior for Skyler, and Barbaros being able to pop 2, good stuff.
It's not a lot, but I think there's more synergy here than he- Why is Sam playing Armory Call with no Equip spells?
So you know how battle fader can special summon itself to end the battle phase? Since it activates from the hand and can be used on your opponents turn does that mean it could be considered a hand trap?

@TeamSamura1X1: even if convolstion of nature is face-up on the field, when you shuffle the deck, you still do not look at the shuffle card, you just remember to put it upside down when your done shuffling, it is when pro cheat more, then non pro.

The new school packs aren't good at all together when you're trying to build a deck. Thought that was obvious. None of the cards from the new sets really mesh well. With the old school packs you may not always get high rarity cards but you're bound to at least get some staples and high power monsters. You should definitely do duels like this more often.

@TeamSamuraiX1: first 3 minutes of the duel, and someone already cheated, abbys actor was a pendulum monster, so even if destroy by battle while being face-down, he is still send from the field to the graveyard so he goes face-up in the Extra deck and not graveyard, even if you have nothing to bring it back from the Face-up extra deck, you cannot break that rules because of that reason.

Old sets are best. I mean they can virtually be used together, unlike newer sets which rely mostly on the same set to be playable
