It´s correct that rule you commented on the video, and that´s why a subnet 255.255.255.0 means a device is living in a network represented by the first 3 bytes of its IP network like: 192.168.1 in this case the last number "10" represents the host number, and you can select between 253 host numbers, if the subnet mask was 255.255.0.0 the numbers you need to make sure are the same are de first 2 bytes like: 192.168, i´m sorry if i make mistakes writting in english.

Nice job using CMD>Ping and showing how to do the basic checks. Knowing your own IP is kinda important! In the controls world....it seems like "static" is king....unless the administrator is aware of what you need to be able to see on the network!! But again, static is what seems to be the item to prevent confusion/frustration. (HVAC Controls - Alerton & PLC)

You did a great job explaining that but the issue I'm having is that I know the IP address of both my laptop and PLC and they once connected, but now they are not. That same laptop connects to my other two identical PLC's but not with the 3rd one. The 1st 3 fields of the laptop ethernet IP address matches those of the PLC so it did connect but now I suspect that the IP address changed on my PLC. How do I go about finding the IP address on my A.B. Micro820? If I can get that IP address then I probably can get the two devices to communicate.

    • @TimWilborne
