      I actually have an 2001 Pontiac grand am in prestige shape that i love and have done all the work on. However i can dream big but $600 a month is more then i could spend now. Believe me if i had it the cash i definitely send my engine out to Nelson racing in a heartbeat.No one does what he can do with an engine. I appreciate the information a lot though thanks.

    NRE turbos are twin scroll.... Out of curiosity, have you ever had any luck doing 270 degree tri-y turbo manifolds that use the twin scroll feature? If you're using 18726543, then the passenger side has 2&4, 6&8, while the driver's side is 1&5, 3&7. It seems like the less surface area would keep the heat in, and you get the tri y surface area. Of course, you can do the ram horn style with 180 degrees using 1&7, 5&3, while the other side is 8&2, 6&4, and that does kind of a 180 degree thing for the turbo scrolls. Conversely, the turbo would get relatively consistent pressure with pure collector.

    How come you don't have any fans blowing on the intercooler? IAT must be pretty high.
    Are there any plans to develop hybrid mirror turbos?
    I love seeing all the cool engines you do, keep em coming :D

  • @Drake5153
    @Drake5153 Před 8 lety

    Tom, the fact that your expanding your turbo production is awesome, can you imagine a gtr with your turbo setup? it would be ungodly... not to mention it makes them more attainable to people that don't want to run 1500+hp, so sick :) oh, almost forgot, imagine the compound setup you could come up with for a v8, like a quad turbo 351xr

    • @lop8828
      @lop8828 Před 8 lety

      no gtr engine can withstand more than 800whp all those blocks you see making 2k are complete billet.

    • @Drake5153
      @Drake5153 Před 8 lety

      +B00steDevil actually, i do believe you mean any gtr higher than 800hp, or rather 700hp has an upgraded transmission, since anything over 7-800hp will shred it. the gtr engines actually are fairly stock, with just a built bottom end. i remember reading an article of alpha's progress, the first gtr they ever bought is still working using its original equipment minus the upgrades, never blew up, and its an alpha 16 now (1600hp) thats what i call a stout car. oh, and the gtr engines are built to twice the tolerance of any mass producion engine, so i would hope they could dish out the power like fords modular series. thats not my main point though, since gtr's can pump out 2k, imagine how much sicker the engine bay would look with the mirror image turbos, and the hp gain. hell, imagine a mirror image setup on any flat/v engine, the combinations are endless, especially for compound setups with complicated plumbing

    • @lop8828
      @lop8828 Před 8 lety

      What exactly do you mean the 3.8 is built to double the tolerance. Are you talking bearing clearances because that wouldn't be so good.

    • @Drake5153
      @Drake5153 Před 8 lety

      +B00steDevil what i mean is the vr38dett was refined to double the tolerances to take the abuse the tuning community, and has beefed up everything to make sure that there was no failures outside of mistreatment, and has succeeded, as per the alpha 20's results. YES, you have to upgrade the engine to handle that, but no where near the levels other engines would require, with the exception of fords modular series. to put it simply, the alpha 20 puts out the numbers, survives it, and is streetable, and NO company can say that, not even lamborghini.
