Just have to install ice & water shield that whole section where it has water dumping , ponding during rains. It should help. And agreed with you, very bad design.
@luckystar4um yes, that would certainly help in this situation, but the location of the downspouts would need to be better as well.

@ladereksimmons Yes, you are partially correct. We will not owe anything for the roof, but we will owe for the interior damages. There was minor water damage to the baseboard behind the front door. The insured said that water was leaking on the porch, but there was no staining. The damage was below the deductible.

6” gutters probably would’ve helped
@Jaco3688 it doesn’t matter about the gutters. The problem was the water dumping onto the porch roof system was deteriorating the roof, causing it to sag and leak.
