      It is funny, when I was a kid I got frustrated with my teachers and said something like wanting to be a better teacher than them in the future. My mother told this to my father and he pretty much said the exact same thing Doc's father did. Can kinda relate with having such a controlling and unbending father. A big reason why I am such a big Hermitcraft fan was because my father never allowed me to play games myself, so at the time I latched onto watching Hermitcraft which still remains now that I can play myself

    • @smolmoru
      @smolmoru Před 23 dny +5

      that's why the saying "blood is thicker than water" refers not to the 'family' you're born into(watered down blood relations), but the bonds you make along your life(and the blood you shead for each other "in battle", because old times)
      at least that's how I see this phrase and I refuse any other saying. especially after I had to play a part in getting my best buddy(who is like the enby bro sibling I never had) out of the clutches of their narcissistic pos of a birther(you can't call that woman a mother) who neither respected their identity nor actually showed care when their chrons disease almost killed them.
      my parents are okay for the most part. my mom's "dad" was an abusive, violent alcoholic that pulled the "I'm going out to buy some milk" move and my dad's parents are old school "no affection, just perfect performance" teachers. so I can't fully blame them for the generational trauma, because they actually tried to do better than their own parents, but being in their early 20s and not knowing a thing about loving family dynamics I just can't expect that much.
      I'm just glad they are actually trying to be self-reflecting about the mistakes they made and apologized to me and my siblings for a hand full of messed up crap so far.
      besides my mom's definitely autistic if not also an ADHDer, because I got diagnosed with both and then it clicked why we're so similar. so I feed her with some skills and tips I've learned since her trust issues and anxiety are too heavy to seek out therapy for herself. believe me, I've tried to talk her into it. even my dad did. tho he may also need therapy to get that emotional blockage out.
      overall my siblings and I may all be suffering some level of CPTSD from emotionally ill regulated parenting(one too erratic, the other too cold), but somehow as all of us being adults now, it reminds me a little bit of a self-help group. a quite clumsy one.
      btw my dad's parents also went through a phase of self-reflection. unlike my mom's. I'm glad that old man of her's died all alone w/o anyone visiting him on his deathbed.
      tbf I had moments where I was about to cut off my parents and I would've done it if they wouldn't have been able to sit down and self-reflect. to be able to do that is a valuable skill to have. I'm grateful to have learned that skill as well, because I almost went down the path of toxicity far enough to not be able to return anymore. maybe that's why I'm a bit more lenient or maybe it gave me insight into when something's genuine and when it's fake idk
      overall family are the people you *decide* to be your family and that includes the people you are not related to and your pets.

    Speaking on Legacy - I will always remember how Doc covered the walls of his perimeter in the artwork submitted by his fans. He was already featuring fan artwork on his thumbnails and shout-outs in each video. He didn't have to take it a step further, but he did it anyway. That spoke so much about his character and motivation to me. There is a quote, not sure where it came from "People may not remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel." I already thought very highly of Doc, but for me that just makes him a true Legend, not just in Minecraft, but as a man. We should all try to be more like Doc

      I work on software that runs in the cloud (some customer facing) and a big part of what we try to do is ensure that systems are resilient because when you can't use them everything goes to shit.
      For peoples homes though it needs to be able to run, at least temporarily, with no connection. I can't see a day where most people won't be connected effectively 24/7 to the cloud but systems that people rely on in their lives need to be somewhat self sufficient.

    Theory: Impulse is the ore snatcher!
    Evidence: Last season before the parimeter bot battle he wondered if he should get involved with the conflict between Grian, Scar and Doc. He missed his chance then but just how everyone is stating it wouldn't be Grian this time because he has already done that Impulse is taking the oportunity this season to mess with Doc.

Neither of these men could separate their ideas of success from finding satisfaction in life's other paths. I can hear how much, in the telling of this story, that Doc doesn't want this for his own child, and I've always respected Doc's take on fatherhood from the little anecdotes he shares but I respect him so much more now knowing that he's trying to give his child what he didn't get from his own father. It means something because it is real. Hollywood entertainment is detached from reality, actors playing a role. All the hermits are pretty much themselves. Sure there is a little bit of role play here and there but no one is acting a character and then switching it off at the end of the day. By being yourselves you've made the entertainment personal. Also now with things like comments, we can actually inferact with each other. I remember it made my whole week when one time doc hearted my comment. And the ext week i was pretty early to his video and i could tell doc was hearting all the comments so I said something like "watching doc hearting comments in a panick trying to keep up" and he replied something like "lol so true!" And it's all of these little things that make hermitcraft in particular so amazing. And the world downloads too, i could go on for days...

      @benrex7775 Před 25 dny +3

      Doc once picked my comment as comment of the week. And then he said I'm an long time viewer. I thought he just inferred it because I mentioned the mobcorn 2.0. But he actually remembered my first comment I wrote probably 6 years ago. He even mentioned that I wrote that I was already watching him for years back then, but didn't have an account until that time.
      This is a dedication and a memory which only few people have. Nobody would suspect that if they just give a superficial watch of his videos.

    I'm a GenX gamer. I have been a fan of Doc for only a few years compared to his long history. I've obviously been impressed with his videos and storytelling and sense of community, especially in recent years. Watching this I am insanely impressed with him as a human including a lot of his philosophies.

    I admit I don't watch many of these, but this. I LOVE Doc. His channel, his love for his family, his work for his community past and present. He is the GOAT. From basketball to Phd, from CZcamsr to family man. DocM77 is a phenomenal person. This episode was 100% one I was waiting for and could not watch fast enough.

    This might not be the place to mention this, but since Doc mentioned how important his community is to him, especially the fan artists, I wonder if he has seen the animatic that BeantheBrave did of Doccy meeting Tango.

    Doc talking about how it “means something” is so real. One of the only things I can always count on to keep me grounded is Hermitcraft. Especially as my health keeps misbehaving, I know I always have some Hermit to watch. It’s very real. It it always means something.
