This is how I find put that my posture has been wrong for 6 years?! I never knew that the left knee was supposed to be behind the cello. Why has no teacher ever corrected me?!?! Thanks so much for your videos, they are immensely helpful and clear.
Thank you! Some teachers are telling their students to hold a cello with both knees to avoid moving a cello around too much. Later on, when sound quality becomes more important, we learn to turn a cello to make sound production more efficient. The best example is a beginning of Schumann's cello concerto when a soloist has to start on A string. It is interesting to see how much (but in a different way) all great cellists are doing it. So, maybe it is time for you to try this idea and see how it works .
@@Cellopedia Thanks so much, I will play around with it. You never stop learning!
Great class! I'm not a beginner anymore, but it is really nice to watch your lessons as well as your cello playing.
Very helpful video. Now I know exactly how to hold a cello
Glad it was helpful!
Bro, I've been playing cello for over 9 months and I was doing everything you said in this video. After I put into practice your suggestions my sound is MUCH better. No more screeches, no more "Why did it make that horrible sound?" I actually sound good! Now I just have to get the left hand to do what the music says!
Thanks a bunch! :)
당신은 최고의 선생님입니다. 친절하고 자세한 설명 정말 감사합니다. 당신 덕분에 정확한 무릎 위치를 알게되었어요.
You are the best teacher. Thank you very much for your kind and detailed explanation. Thanks to you, I got the exact knee position.
Thanks a lot Maxim, extremely useful advice!! I will pay more attention to every detail you mentioned in the video. Hope you are doing well, regards!!
Great Video!
Thank you for this video! My daughter is starting cello lessons soon but she is left-handed. I understand she still holds cello the same way, is that right? The fact that she is left-handed, does it make it more difficult to play cello?
Yes she will be holding the cello the usual way. Every beginner has to learn so many new things about coordination of hands so it is actually doesn’t really matter if a cellist is right or left handed. All the best to your daughter!

Сделано! Приношу свои извинения за корявый перевод.
Hello I am a beginner, I naturally put my left knee behind the cello since the first time I touch it but my teacher and also othe people always correct me saying that it's absolutely wrong to put it behind the cello. I am very confused
Just ask them why they believe it has to be done that way. If you find their explanation convincing, do it.
