Hello! My name is Maxim Kozlov. I created Cellopedia as an educational channel with a goal of providing free cello lessons and helping to learn how to play cello to students of all skills and ages, especially those without an opportunity to work with a private cello teacher. We will practice together all scales, etudes by Dotzauer, Lee, Kummer and concert music, including Suzuki Cello School.
What kind of pitch do you have? Relative or Perfect? Test it now!
Have you ever wondered what kind of pitch you have? Maybe you've already tested yourself with a piano or artificially generated sound, but did you know these methods might not work perfectly if you play string instruments? That's why I made this video - to help you test yourself by recognizing sounds made by my 200-year-old cello.
Do you have perfect pitch or relative pitch? How can you find out, and what do these terms even mean? Each kind of pitch recognition has its own advantages. For instance, what is the main advantage of having perfect pitch? And how does relative pitch offer more flexibility, especially when playing with a piano that’s tuned higher or lower than expected?
Watch this video to take the perfect pitch test and relative pitch test specifically designed for string instruments. How many notes did you get right in the relative pitch test? And how did you fare in the perfect pitch test? Let me know in the comments. This video includes absolute pitch training and ear training exercises that are perfect for beginners.
By the way, if you're interested in learning more about ear training notes or relative pitch ear training, this video has got you covered. Let's see how well you can identify the sounds from my cello. Don't forget to share your results!

I know these notes very well now lol
most of the correct the ones i got wrong i was a semitone- whole tone off😭
Just a bit of recalibration ;)
What is the tempo speed for the slow part, in metronome?
get to know by daily practicing 😉
Definitely takes time to master this skill
I got 2 right out of pure luck.
Lucky indeed! You won the music lottery prize 🏆
Doesn’t this feel a bit too fast to anyone else?
Thanks, really beautiful 🎉
He seems to know what he's doing i play double bass and he seems to be doing it correctly
Oh, thank you. It’s good to hear from a pro!
Wow Not good at all, just one or two note got it right, I guess I need more practice😢
It is a good start 🎉
I’m only 10 and I’m playing with 3/4 size cello
Great. You are quite tall, I suppose…
I’m playing the second song😮
Way to go! More exciting music coming up!
got 2/3 though i think it was total coincidence haha!
Good result!
I was able to get all of them by using the note A, which I have memorized and singing cromatique scales in my head 😅
This is a smart move!
That's not a test of perfect pitch, it's a test of relative pitch.
For the first note - perfect, the rest- relative :)
I guessed Ab and Eb 😭
Time to recalibrate!
I did very bad😂😂😂was fun tho
Music is fun!
Each note, my guess was 1 tone lower. I did better with the relative pitch.
Interesting! I guess next time you will be able to "recalibrate"!
It show me how bad I 'm. LOL
Did you do better on relative pitch part?
@@Cellopedia YES, I did...
🎉
I have perfectly awful pitch. I flunked ear training in college. Oboe had keys and I learned to play in tune. Cello is a challenge but I have made great progress with intonation.
I heard that the oboe is one of the hardest instruments to play in tune. It is quite special that you can play both instruments.
Too ez
Should I make level two test?
@@Cellopedia Definitely
What kind of pitch do you have?
Thank you for the video! It has helped me a lot! :D
How hard was it?
Thanks!
Thank you for supporting Cellopedia ❤️
Thank you for this well put together video! I appreciate the work that you do! 🎉
I am so happy to help. It’s fun to share what was given to me by my teachers!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
🎉
❤❤ i use my 3rd finger and pinky finger very often for pieces like the Swann, Dvorak concerto and danse rustique by georg goltermann. This video has helped me very much! Thank you so much for the help, sir🎉😊❤
Happy to hear it! How long did it take you to start playing Dvorak concerto?
Thank you!
What is the highest position you learned so far?
@@Cellopedia4 is solid I think and working on 5-7 now. Not easy to find pieces with only one of them. I ordered the book 3 since it has some exercises on it. Your explanation of how to place the hands and thumb is helpful. I think I have a wolf tone too.
느려서 맞춰 연습하기 너무 좋아요❤
this piece is very interesting and joyful ❤
Absolutely 👍 What is your next piece to learn?

Thanks!
Thank you for your support ❤️
You play absolutely beautifully!! 🥰 I find myself super envious of cellists with long pinky fingers. I have a 5 cm pinky finger and it can be such a challenge especially in extended position. Do you have any videos for those of us that play with tiny hands? I play on a 7/8th cello.
Thank you! I have some online students with small hands - we try adjusting left hand technique. Here is a video I made for them czcams.com/video/4m1J-9KOGYI/video.html
@@Cellopedia thank you for the link. I've been playing for almost 2 years and looking into your Udemy courses. Where should I start since I am not a true beginner? However, I am not certain if I consider myself a true intermediate student. I am currently working in the Piatti books (thank you for those great videos as well).
@@cellokello I think that you would like working on Intermediate courses - S. Lee and both Bach’s suites. Also, I will be teaching a webinar tomorrow- you might find it interesting!
@@Cellopedia wonderful! See you tomorrow! I just signed up.
@@cellokelloI could have written all of your comments myself! I am 5’7” but see little 10 year old girls with longer pinky fingers than mine. Maxim’s CZcams on the topic helped me. I signed up for tomorrow as well. I find that I can always play something more beautiful even if I feel like it is my level. I enjoyed the Udemy courses mainly because I don’t have to think about what to practice, or teach myself.
Thank you, it hard to find a cello teacher that is in my area.
I’m so glad you have recorded Kummer studies because I was struggling on the rhythm!!! I always come here to get an idea of how the piece is soupposed to sound like. Thank you so muchhh!!
