The Dover Drive is a collaboration between two heavyweights of the overdrive world, Lovepedal and Hermida Audio, designed to straddle the line between overdrive and fuzz, providing tight rhythm tones and creamy, singing leads in equal measure. Inspired by the tones of Eric Johnson, Billy Gibbons, and David Gilmour, the Dover Drive's dynamic, touch sensitive character makes it a perfect choice for players who like to sculpt tones with their guitar's volume and tone knobs. In addition to Volume and Gain, the Dover Drive features a single-band Tone control for adjusting high-end content, and an internal trim pot for adjusting bias, letting the player dial in a starved, spitty attack, smooth, singing sustain, or something in between. The Dover Drive is hand-built in the USA with premium components and true bypass switching. - Hudba
After that Dogs solo, Andy, for me, became a legend.
Epic win on "Dogs".
Andy even tuned his guitar down a whole step just to nail that Dogs solo. How badass is that!
Dog's solo was insanely spot on!
"Inspired by the tones of Eric Johnson, Billy Gibbons, and David Gilmour." So what does that tell you (and what do all three guitarists share in common as to their pedals used/sound)? BK Butler Tube Driver. That must be what this is modeled after.
02.40 Andy allows himself a little grin.
Really diggin the PF solo. Been watching you for years and you really nailed it there.
Yes he did. You can tell he didn't just learn that solo for this video! He's been perfecting that for years, as I have. That's probably my favorite guitar solo period. I love to cover that song at a gig with my Victoria tweed style amp about to explode. It brings the tone.
Absolutely nailed the Dog's solo!
Dude, you killed it with Dogs, amazing!!!!well done!.
It even mimics the look of the famous Tube Driver.
And it sounds great!
Amazing work copping the Gilmour sound. I'm impressed.
Andy, your 'Dogs' lead gave me goosebumps. I'm going to learn that today.
I always wondered what this thing was. I pictured it like a subtle boost. Nope. It's a Pink Floyd lead guitar pedal!
Stephen Douglas It's a clone of this famous Pedal.
It's not a Tube Driver clone, no. The sound is modelled after the sound EJ gets when he uses a Fuzz Face and a Tube Driver in front of a cranked Marshall.
ZZ TOP's "Arrested for driving while blind" from the Ranchero Texicano album
It would be nice if PGS would list the songs being played.
13 out of 10 for the Dover ,overdrive and fuzz in one...ah yeah. Thanks for demoing Andy & Proguitarshop.
Cliffs of Dover Drive!
That was bad ass Andy, looks like a tube driver.
what a epic solo piece, Evil Andy is your real name, every pedal you'd demo is enticing purchase intentions.. great clips.
Respect for the Dogs solo.
Holy Moses, Dogs was epic! Well done!
Damn you can rock some Pink Floyd Andy!!
Definitely captured the essence of this pedal! Great demo, Andy!
great playing....great tones...Animals is an epic album and you definitely killed that lead tone!
Looks like a tube driver with fuzz. Sounds killer!
is this supposed to be like a bk butler tube driver ?
No. It's a blend of a Fuzz Face and a Zendrive.
Some seriously sweet playing...
So it looks like a Tube Driver (favoured by Eric Johnson) and is called the (Cliffs Of) Dover Drive... hmmmmmmmmmmm
Based on the Tube Driver pedal...
No.
John Roberts Yes. Go on Lovepedals website. Direct quote: " inspired by the tube-driven B.K. Butler and Chandler Tube Driver pedals that have powered everything from David Gilmour’s late-model stadium sound to J Mascis’s power jangle to Eric Johnson’s violin-like tone. "
M. Goetz. Still no. Try reading the text you quoted. The Dover Drive is ‘inspired by’ the Tube Driver. It’s not based on it. There is no tube for a start. And the circuit is completely different. The graphics on the outside of the box are similar to a Tube Driver, but that’s it. The circuit is actually a silicon Fuzz Face into most of a Zendrive. It’s supposed to sound like Eric Johnson’s Fuzz Face / Tube Driver setup. If you like the sound of a Tube Driver the Zendrive is close. But it’s not anything like an actual Tube Driver. So stop trying to be a smartass and contradicting people for the sake of it. You just end up looking stupid.
I got the bias control jumpered to an external pot. Waaaaay better!
Great! Love it! Would be a great addition to my CoT50, and Eternity Burst!
so many over drives out there, I say find one you like and stick with it, you could go broke buying every new lil toys out there, learned that the hard way, since I stablized my pedal board to what I like I have a magnitude of pedals just sitting a shelf doing nothing, I usually give one or 2 away or sell some,
I'd take one if you're giving them away! ;)
Too bad both Hermida and Love pedal went out of business. You can’t find one of these or a zendrive for below 500$ now :( it’s a shame
Just scrolled past one on Reverb for £136. Might be your lucky day.
Great job on Arrested for Driving While Blind! Very tasty Andy.
Of anam vay anam, fantastic
ZZ-F'N'TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jaimedolcesinnersole. yeah that is pretty freaking convincing
ROCK ON
One of my big pedal regrets is buying a Zendrive. Try before you buy, Cats.
Oh man, why? I've had a Zendrive Gold for the better part of two years now. It's almost always on.
So many drive pedals out there... I'm sure this is a good piece of kit, but does it really have a sound of its own that you can tell apart from all the others?
Can anyone name all the songs in this video? More curious about the first song. Is that ZZ Top?
***** Arrested for Driving While Blind!
Stephen Douglas Nice thanks! Puts some context into this and the other Dover Drive video with this!
***** Get "SPOTIFY" it's FREE! And you can hear all of ZZ Top!
Awesome Dogs solo Andy ! :-D
Really appreciate it! 👊
Andy that was awesome
Outstanding!
Wow...older Pink Floyd??? Brilliant Andy!
Might have to have this
Andy your one talented player. Damm!
Dogs Solo was Sick!!!
Thank-you very much for the your Pro-servis ans for the information! In help musiciants !
I hate trim pots, just expose that crap on top builders please.
agreed
I'm going to guess the reason they don't is that it would be more expensive to build.
I had one put on mine... like a $20-25 mod....
If you had it done, yes. Because the guy had to do some work.
Even if they use some high quality pots, a single pot is probably no more then 6$ including the knob.
Work would be essentially the same, one or two more nuts/screws to tighten.
So it basically wouldn't even touch the price-tag of the pedal.
Stephan Reichholf quality pots are 60 cents where I get them(alpha, probably the same as are on this pedal anyway) , 20 dollar to desolder 3 leads, drill a hole and run a wire to a pot. I'll take that any day.
NICE!
Nice, I may have to try one sometime!
When are we going to see you demo the B9 Organ pedal?
😮😮😮😮🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻😮😮😮😮😮
I feel like you get better at guitar every video.
Would this pedal take a compressor well? I'd like to put one before this in the chain
Great Guitar Player!
😧 what a real nice intro !!! 👍🏻
what's the name of the song at 4:00 ?
Pink Floyd Dogs if you still concerned :Dddd
Dogs
What bias setting are you using on the last part of this demo?
Damn your good!
Yeah, why not, let's back it off a little bit and go search for your fallen jaws...awesome!
What was the last song? I must know.
Dogs by Pink Floyd. Off of the Animals album.
What was that first ZZ Top song? :-)
I like how they’ve gone for the Real Tube/Tube Driver by BK Butler..
No surprise it mentions the Gilmour sound as that’s what he used.
I have the Real Tune and used to own the Tube Driver but gave it away….silly cunt I am
it sounds like fuzz than a Chandler Tube Driver
Is this similar to the Pete Cornish P-1?
Not at all. Have both
Was there another pedal based off the BK buttler drive or was this the only one?
+Anthony .Varone That would be the MXR FET Driver. There may be others but less obvious ones as well.
Mod 1 of the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive Mod
Ibanez Tube King overdrive
MXR Fet Driver
I have a B.K. Butler Tube Driver it sounds killer....But I also used to have a AC Boost pedal that was a really good alternative to my Tube Driver. It had maybe a little less bass or fullness but it sounded killer. Bjorn from Gilmourish .com recomended the QC Boost as an alternative to the Tube Driver. If you run a fuzz into the AC Boost you definatley can achieve a very nice "violin tone"
this way. Just add delay and you're there. Also just to mention, I just got a "Chase Tone Secret Preamp" that is a really nice Clean Boost pedal as well, just put almost any distortion in front of it and you won't wanna turn it off. I wouldn't say it's a Tube Driver really but I'm having a tough time deciding which one I like using the most. I'll just keep em" both ha. By the way Eric Johnson turns down the bass and treble just a few notches up from zero, drive about 9:30 o' clock and the output knob at about 8:30 o' clock. Start there at least anyway. Of course this is with a fuzz in front of it although my other drive pedals are nicely enhanced wit it as well. Note: The Tube Driver really starts sounding way too bassy and trebley the more you turn those knobs up. It can put way too much bass/treble pretty quickly. Hope thiss helps. 🙂
There's the TD-Y from PastFX, which itself is a clone of the TD-X by now-defunct Buffalo FX, which is a Tube Driver clone.
Dogs!!! XP XP XP XP XP
please guys, start informing us what amp you are using
Yeah, he used to announce it at the start of every video, but he stopped after about 2 years of it lol
thanks guys
Goddamn lead tone. Damn andy....
Its the same idea as the MXR Joe Bonamassa FET Driver but not as good. A touch to much spattering from the fuzz.
Funny - it sounds like a mix between a Tube driver and a zendrive
whynottalklikeapirat indeed, this pedal's circuit is a silicon fuzz face into a Zendrive in a single box.
Ach so. The TD at moderate settings will sound somewhat like a rolled back fuzz so Yeah that makes sense. Pretty neat combo ...
it almost says hernia, that's what my brain wants it to say
tecnic...sond....god
BG stole that lead from Steve Miller going to Mexico..
dogs
David Gilmour > or = amazing
Sounds good, looks dull couldn't they have given it a modern paint job.
As good as Andy is, and he is GOOD. Anyone playing Floyd but Gilmour just makes the notes sound so rehearsed. I don't mean this in a bad way, just when you do those solos, you have to NAIL his phrasing and feel. The tone is there, and I know it is just Andy doing his thing, but I wanted to point that out. Awesome pedal! On my list for sure.....
sounds like crap
I don't like it. Sounds nothing like Eric Johnson's singing tone to me. I get much closer to that tone with my Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic and Wampler Velvet Fuzz. I've also played the Butler Tube Drive, which has a much better and warmer singing tone. I will pass on this pedal for sure.
Snake oil.
