Breaks my heart.
"Stupid chick on the conveyor belt
Staring at her severed foot
Stupid pig despairing at the sight
Of his companion on a hook
You ever see that stupid cow chasing the truck
That drove off with her calf?
Stupid lower order always good for a good laugh
Debarked
Declawed
Defanged
Dehorned
Wings clipped
Toes cut
Branded
Teeth pulled"
Lyrics
My first hunting trip was quite eventful
I must've been about 5 or 6
An essential rite of passage
For those consigned here with a dick
Shot size 5 was recommended for
A clean efficient kill
They laughed as I cried
And stroked his blood-soaked iridescent quills
Don't recall just how I got there
To the hatchery I mean
Stumbled through the bush on a field trip
And there it stood in front of me
I stooped down upon the concrete pad
To verify what I was seeing
The aftermath of stomping boots
Upon hundreds of tiny, helpless beings
Hello despair and booze-fueled rage
How do you do, my gilded cage?
Stupid chick on the conveyor belt
Staring at her severed foot
Stupid pig despairing at the sight
Of his companion on a hook
You ever see that stupid cow chasing the truck
That drove off with her calf?
Stupid lower order always good for a good laugh
Debarked
Declawed
Defanged
Dehorned
Wings clipped
Toes cut
Branded
Teeth pulled
Farewell despair and booze-fueled rage
How do you do, soon-to-be-emptied cage?
nice work. i tried for a bit but you beat me to it.
These are some of the most upsettinh and powerful lyrics Ive ever heard. I love this band and this album but this song is gut wrenching. Brilliant. Sad. Neccessary. Potent. Powerful. Long live Propaghandi
I am SO OBSESSED with this song. This is the most powerful animal rights song I've ever heard.
I agree. Showing is way more powerful than telling and its awesome how Chris started writing more narrative/story-based lyrics over the years.
Same here. Every day 3-4 times since i found this! I barely do this....
Potemkin city limits is powerful too.
Purina Hall Of Fame is even more intense. Its my favorite Propagandhi song ever.
Can’t take this song very seriously when he said in a recent interview that he only objects to animal exploitation if it’s being done by “industrial capitalism.” Seemed to be on board with indigenous seal hunts. Seems pretty absurd and hypocritical to me.
One of the most powerful lyrics ever written. I've never even considered going veg. Now... I dunno, this song changes things, those words hit hard and deeper. Deeper than everything else on the subject.
Marek Grecicha I agree.
Todd's song about veganism when he was in ISpy all those years ago was what planted the seed for me. Give it a try, go veg for a while or a few days per week and see what you think. It was not as hard as I thought it would be.
Listen to Potemkin city limits (the song)
Go for it! Vegan food is delicious, it's better for you, and better for the environment. My wife and I feel much better after having taken the plunge a few years ago. Best of luck to you.
So instead of looking at actual science your mind is changed because of one song? You're just lying to yourself. You're not vegan nor want to become one.
"Hello despair and booze-fuelled rage!" No shit. We are so horrible to animals. So fucking sad.
I can't stop listening to this song...I feel like it addresses so much on a subtle level. Animal rights is the main theme but... toxic masculinity, substance abuse, mortality, personal resolve... damn.
i know I'm kind of randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to watch new series online?
@Idris Skyler Try flixzone. Just google for it =)
This song it's so powerful, wow.
It's been 1 year since I listened to Victory Lap but I just stoped to get real deep in those lyrics after watch some Chris Hannah interviews and I just change my mind about everything. Propagandhi is doing a nice job, not just about music but about what they believe.
This song makes me angry at how fucking good it is. Goddamn it Chris Hannah is a king among men.
I love how this song goes from least favorite to absolute best form the album. You guys are the best band in the world.
Their saddest song. They’d been telling us for 25 years that meat is Murder and dairy is rape but this is the most powerful on that subject IMHO.
One of my favorite songs from this album! Great job!
I saw them in Green Bay back in the day and I wish they would come back they are one of the greatest bands in my book a lot of people don't realize what they stand for their lyrics speak for everything
I love this song. I always thought the chorus sounded like something from the intro of a show like Full House or Degrassi or something. Where you picture the people turning around "Oh, you caught me at home!"
ow my heart
You😍😍
THE LOGO MOVEEES....subtlely.... love everything
This song is powerful.
I do not like to listen to this, because it makes me feel so fucking guilty, now went vegan, it is friggin hard, but it is what I must do, the 'hello despair' line makes me cry every time, so to avoid explanations I hardly ever listen to it
REPLY
Hang tough brother. I'm 40 and I recently went veg as well. After a while you simply stop craving the old shit and you start craving vegan foods because your body just kinda knows it's better. Congratulations as well.
Painfully beatiful. Thank you
sarcasm? such a groovy song with a dark concept. i love it.
Beautiful
masterpiece
Anyone else getting a hint of Tiny Moving Parts in their influence for this song? Absolutely amazing!
Genius!
reminds me of my first and last hunt with my grandfather before he put the rifle to his head and remains found just back from my last day of church down the street from harolds elementary at cfb southport
Damn man, that’s hardcore. Thanks for sharing though!
Holy Shit
This is nice 👌
❤️
I'd like to remark that, although most people find veganism as the emotional or sentimental choice, it's actually the only rational choice. If you accept as basic statements as "producing unnecessary harm is ethically incorrect" and "animals feel", veganism is the direct logical conclusion.
veganism produces unnecessary harm to plants, so its illogical...this is just sophistry, dude. youre just putting a veneer of "logic" on emotional reasoning. i guess if it convinces people to go vegan, its a good thing, but i try not to bullshit myself when i can manage not to. its hard because human brains are pretty shit at thinking, but i do my best.
@@beastvg123 you dont know shit about me bro, wind your neck in. not sure what your point has to do with anything, but im well aware of the ecological footprint of animal agriculture...i am an ecologist after all. im critiquing the argumentation because it is detrimental to the animal rights movement harm to have people making silly incoherent arguments like this. how many animals did you liberate by calling me names, ya goon?
@@MrX-yr6py oops, my bad. I was drunk and thought you were a Carnist. I'll delete
@@beastvg123 lol, np man
Hello despair...
Breaks my heart. Go vegan. Powerful lyrics.
holy fuck! this is prolly the best song i have ever heard! awesome lyrics. go vegan!
Way to, once again, make me question my morals, Prop. Thanks. :(
Hey. Just checking in on this. Have you made any changes? Take care
Best indie rock song 2k17
I have been vegetarian for over 20 years. Sometimes it gets hard, or at the very least wildly inconvenient, to be meat-free. This aspect of the human social experience is so stacked against us and it is only getting incrementally better. Ever since first hearing this song, revisiting it or simply thinking about it reinvigorates me to never, ever relent on this belief. What is still being done, at this late stage in our overall understanding of animal cognition, is extremely bankrupt and even the most woke, world-changing meat eater will be cancelled in 150 years - we already know better and are choosing not to act cuz hot dogs are tasty.
we are on the verge of baing able to get meat without killing animals though! its not going to be a cost effective way to get calories ofc but people wont have to actually do the hard work of committing to vegatarianism (its actually net that hard but everyone feels like it would be) or vegaism, and we can still abolish industrial animal slaughter...i dont actually think we will because humans are fucking trash, but the possibility is there.
Please go vegan. All the nonhuman animals in the dairy industry are tortured, exploited and die a violent death in the abattoir. czcams.com/video/UcN7SGGoCNI/video.html
Ouch.
Everything that is altruistic here.
Why did it took me til my 30's to fall in love with you guys? Gotta call Fatty to break up with NOFX, brb.
This song hits so much harder once you go vegan.
I eat animals, I admit it... this makes me feel sorry for that. Good song
then stop
go vegan
i am but it still hurts :(
so easy to go vegan :)
Cowardly hunters
Meat is murder
It's not.
level 5.
It's not, if you do it naturally. Chase down your prey naked and kill it with your teeth and hands. No tools whatsoever. Then eat its flesh raw without cooking it. Then and only then you can use the argument that eating meat like a predatory species is natural.
Benches Laroue I was just going to type this but then I saw your comment.
Message to all who feel the requirement to be omnivores. Go Hunting, then go fishing, then grow a garden, then make some dinner.
Or at least support those who take part in the love of harvest and tradition in contrast to process and slaughter.
Love all animals.
Then
Have you heard another Propagandhi song called Human(e) meat: The flensing of Sandor Katz?
How does that change anything? It's always been a question of respect for so many animal moralists... shouldn't it be about treating animals with respect enough to be treated properly before being eaten- not about how much a person earned their food, felt about eating it, or, as is the most common remedy to any animal-eating guilt, thanked the animal for its sacrifice, weeped for its death as if it was human, and moved on like there has been some positive transformation for the person killing and eating it? Eating animals isn't at all the worst problem, it's mistreating them to such extremes that it makes it clear that that is the only purpose one could imagine for them.
what type of animal has 'iridescent quills?' And how does a kid just wander into a hatchery? Great song and great message. Make factory farming humane as possible!!

Go Vegan 💚
I feel like Propagandhi makes fun of genres by playing them...
Song is absolutely incredible, can't stop listening to it. But with all the people saying "go vegan" or "I went veg because of this song," I feel like, rather than just drop meat, we should take an approach more resembling the people from Avatar (the movie with the blue guys). Use the meat given by the animals, that's what they're there for - it's just nature - but don't take without need, and appreciate/honor those from which you take.
Look, I get it, no one likes being preached at. But "that's what they're there for"? Do you really believe that from the minute they are all born, their real purpose in life is to be shot and eaten by someone else who, out of no necessity, just liked the way they taste? Who said so? Your dad? Your god?
I thought the point of "honoring" life was to respect that the life has value in itself, on the merits of its experiences and nothing else. The life lost bleeding out feels no comfort in the fact that they were supposedly destined for it, because whoever the fuck said so, which sounds like they don't see much value in that life at all. Gee, I'm sure glad you appreciate my "honorable sacrifice," that makes me feel so much better about the fact you murdered me in cold blood.
Propagandhi has another song that's exactly about that concept and how it makes no sense. It's called "Human(e) Meat (The Flensing of Sandor Katz)".
We need to stop looking at humanity's impact in the world in such simple terms. If humans behaved like other creatures on this planet, then I'd agree with you. But when we pave, destroy and eat everything in sight and populate like mad, veganism is the only logical diet to minimize our impact on the planet and its creatures.
@@danielreid9621 "eat everything in sight and populate like mad" is a fundamental strategy of living things. humans DO operate like creatures, but we've transcended the normal contraints of "nature" and the consequences of our rapacity are all but limitless. i totally agree humans whould be eating almost exclusively plants and fungi, but i gotta push back against this conception of humans existing outside nature or being a corruption of some drive animals have to regulate their own behavior out of concern for other organisms or ecological integrity.
@@MrX-yr6py No, I understand we're fundamentally the same as other creatures. We've just been far more successful at the whole eating and populating thing than others, therefore we need to show some damn restraint!
it sounds like a leftover of ideas made it to a song
Leftovers ideas about an issue he’s been writing about most his life. Put together in one perfect song, yes.
If only they weren't so delicious.
fuck u
So far no one has offered any meaningful retaliation to this. You realize hat this is one of the two largest arguments that people will have to face when fighting the meat and livestock farming industry. Either people like the taste of meat and will never give it up, or peoples diets require they consume meat or animal byproducts. Not everyone has access to nutrient enriched foods and supplements, and not everyone wants to live off of these either.
liferescripted it's a shame you had to make a statement like you did. Surely you expect a similar response? Anyway I will address your statement as it's something I used to wrestle with before I became meat free. I loved the taste of meat and I think most of us do or certainly did. Why? Because it's damn tasty but, and this is the rub, for every hundreds of reasons there are for not eating meat the only defence seemed to be "cos I like it", "cos it's tasty" etc. I used to chastise vegetarians and make fun of them but if I was honest with myself I totally respected them and essentially agreed with how morally wrong it was to eat meat and above all else take advantage of them. It all came back to the only argument I really had which was "cos I like it" and after a while I realised that that was perhaps the shitest reason ever and in no way should justify my actions or forgive what I was doing. I simply had no other argument and that's when I stopped eating animals. It's very easy to continue with the norm. Something we are spoonfed from an early age is difficult to change or address. I also grew up in a religious household and that was also difficult to reverse that mindset. It's not easy to stop eating meat and it has to be something you do in your own time and on your own. I genuinely believe it's the right way forward and I say that coming from a person who does it because I think it's morally wrong rather than "Please don't kill the poor little chickens". In fact, I'm not real keen on animals for the most part but I certainly wouldn't take advantage of them.
You don't need meat to add flavour, texture, nutrition or variety. You are shit at cooking.
not best album sorry
Ok Trumptard.
A good song, but the comments are filled with self righteous vegans.
Not seeing that at all on here.
Poor Snar Snarf, discovering people discussing veganism in the comment section of a pro-veganism song.
God damn this is some corny shit
My least favorite song from the new album.
Pop songs can be ok, sometimes. But this one is one of the worst the band has ever written - sorry.
dang! i love this song!!!!
Pretty sure it's not a pop song!? I haven't heard it on the radio yet... And it's one of my favourites on this album!
Haha
you really think this is a pop rock song?
