- This boy and girl were matched up together in a jiu-jitsu tournament. Although it ended in tears was it was of a difference in skill level rather than it being about a difference in gender?

No one is at fault? This whole video and comment thread are weird. No one did anything wrong here, mixed gender matches are commonplace with children that young. She did her best, she lost, and she got upset. She's a kid, it's good for her to learn to lose and she'll be stronger because of it. I think people are trying to turn this isn't something it's not. if you believe in equality THIS is what it looks like.
At that age there are girls that can beat boys and at certain weight classes. That kid just so happens to have more experience also losing is part of the sport there are many times in combat sports where first years have to compete against state champions because that’s how the number of participants and weight classes worked out at an event
@@samcarp7815 i pretty dang sure that no where in my comment i said there were not girls that could beat boys. hang on and i'll re-read my one line comment again just to make sure. nope, no where in that one line comment does it say that. so obviously you must have replied to the wrong comment. because all my comment said was THIS is what equality looks like. and i'll be the first to admit, my comment was wrong. this is NOT equality. the girl was much larger than the boy. size was most definitely NOT equal. i can't speak about the experience factor as i have no clue what either of their backgrounds are. but obviously you do, or at least you took it upon yourself to claim the boy had more experience. i'll give you that point as i do not know you either. so you may actually know. but you have to admit the size difference was definitely in favor of the girl. also, i never said anything about losing. of course someone has to lose. unless of course you are an advocate for participation trophies. which i am not. also, it's clearly obvious to 99.9% of the people watching this video the boy was holding back as to not injure the girl or the lose would have been way worse. does that set everything straight for you Captain Savahoe?
The boy cared more about her well being than the person who signed her up.
If she wouldve won and he wouldve cried they wouldve cheered her on and told him to man up
The fact that this is true makes it even more unfair to the boy, he had no choice 😢
This whole article clearly sympathizes with one side more than other. There is no "fault" as a match is a match. Fault only even enters a conversation when something is unfair or wrong. Everything these days is unfair but only when ONE side is winning. If other had won, words like "fault" would never be part of discussion
Yes, although maybe in words encouraging the loser to practice more to win next time, its less relevant between kids but we have to acknowledge if a healthy boy loses against a same size girl, then he likely simply needs to practice his technique, and when they hit puberty there's even less excuse

Lots of younger and inexperienced kids cry when they lose in front of a crowd. She wasn't hurt, the boy didn't overdo anything.
True story, I was 14, TKD, I cried in my 3rd tournament 2nd round after suffering a complete defeat, my hits felt as it did no damage and I couldn't even counter as all my opponent hits sent me back shock after shock. 3rd round different opponent, I couldn't contain my anger and rash decision led me get a really good hit sent me out of ring. Before the tournament i was arrogant and egotistical, after the tournament, I was mocked, laughed, failed promotion to black belt, and literally used as an example in classes.
But, one of the black belt from China, Hoi Meng literally took me under his wing and trained me to control the anger, he will kick my stomach repeatedly until I stopped crying, it went on every week until I stopped shaking as well, during that time I learned more combos, more movements to increase force, pressing the advantage or follow through on defence and offence. End of the year, I was paired against the best in our class, I lost by small margin, gave me the confidence I needed, I was progressing. At 15 end of the week I took boxing lessons and Silat and promoted to black belt. At 16, entered a tournament after the teachers approval, of course some remembers me as the cry baby, I won 2nd, beaten by a really fast counter opponent, that shut them up.
17 years of age I started teaching black and red, I was ridiculed by them for being the longest and among the rare to fail miserably as red and black. I remember not caring as it is true. However majority of kids are thin, me on the other hand are more fit and sturdy, got the muscles working. Hoi Meng sometimes comes by to oversee the progress, twice a month and said I'm better suited to teaching than fighting. To prove him wrong, I entered an open under 21 tournament at 17, once a year event, I've past the preliminaries rounds, all through semi finals, I've beaten Muay Thais, kickboxing, Silat, other black belt TKDs and some Chinese martial arts, but I lost the semi final to a kickboxing opponent, that feint a hard side kick and as I sidestep away from his right, he just jumped and straight hard heel to my left kidney, couldn't continue.
So I thought I proved a point to Hoi Meng, after a few months, in a training spar, big circle, Hoi Meng told me to spar against Sarah, one of my own student, after some back and forth, I was actually reducing my strength and focus more on speed and technique because she is a girl, she focused on speed more, so I thought I should just match it, but she got closer, evading my counter left kick, and using her quick left side kick which forced me to immediately land my extended left so I'm stable when she hits my block, but when it hits, it felt light, I have no clue why, in an instance a felt a huge weight on my left knee, and I got kneed in the face. She freaking jumped on her right leg, landed on my knee, used it as a stepping stone, and jumped agained with her entire weight shifting from right to left. I got a small concussion.
I can say overconfidently, overconfidence is dangerous. I literally went through, overconfident > shattered > confident > overconfident > shattered. But Hoi Meng was right, I was better as a teacher than a fighter. As I can go so far with hardwork, but those who also put in hardwork, with the right aptitude, can make quick decisions on instinct, changing their stances and follow through on the opportunity, always get the leverage they need. Yes I lost to Sarah in TKD rules, 2 minute spar each round, but how many actually out there taking defence classes and how many put in the work, how many got great teachers, and how many actually got aptitude for it? Never underestimate anyone, even a girl.
@ajstyles5704 I was in TKD when I was younger. My opponent kicked me in the face 3 separate times, never got warnings or nothing. By that 3rd kick, I was crying and ready to hurl. Another girl got disqualified for kicking a girl in the face. 3 out of 4 of them were from the same school, and the ref was their instructor. I'm thankful they were all girls, a teenage males kick to the face would have put me in the hospital with a broken jaw.
@@kovanightshade I applaud you for standing your ground, but I'm a bit confused, why high kicks aren't allowed in tkd spar at your place?
so this happened a while ago, it's too bad refs like that exist but its just reality. If you were my student back then, first i would praise you for being tough, but I would tell you one thing you don't want to hear, that was shameful display. You must be capable to block or evade, especially from high kicks, with or without ref, even if your opponent breaks the rules, its no excuse. Not all tkd teaches the same thing, the same way. At my place, you get big points if you hit the face, in a spar it's automatic a lost. I would proceed by teaching you how to improve your reflexes and improving movements through repeated exercise of back stepping and side stepping until you are light on your feet, I would want to see you being able to predict when high kicks are coming, I would show you how a leg requires a steady foothold on the ground for high kicks, how it would look like from the front.
About the boys thing, it's why I will always recommend ladies to take tkd over any other martial arts, most tkd training increases reflexes and speed, the coordinated routine is actually just to make your body memorise the movements, make it a muscle memory, many and I mean many, don't train properly, I also didn't in the beginning. It's also a reason why I praise ladies that works hard, i want them to work harder, because they have to, there is only one attribute that closes the gap between a woman and a man, and that is Agility. I genuinely would look at a tomboy with no flexibility and say "this is going to take a lot of work" to their face, you ain't oulasting a man in a direct brawl unless they are drunk, high or exhausted.

This poor boy is a gentleman, it should be boys against boys girls against girls. You can see he feels bad but he won fair and square. And he seems to be a wonderful caring young man
Here's a fun fact that will surprise alot of people on here. Boys don't have any physical advantage over girls athletically until age 12-13. So if the age was lower in this division than he just beat her with skill.

There was a guy who was a few years older than me back when I lived in Oklahoma and he wrestled against a girl in 7th grade. He lost. People were still giving him crap his senior year. It’s not fair to the guy - either you win against a girl or you lose to a girl. Either way it sucks
Yeah best case is the boy wins but people say "Yeah but it was against a girl so it barely counts" so the boy doesn't get any recognition.
They could win and people could get mad at them for "beating up a girl" so that sucks too.
Then they could lose and they'll be mocked for it their entire life.
There's absolutely nothing for the boy to gain by fighting a girl, but a lot to lose.

Whoever set this matchup put both those kids in an awkward situation.
My how times and values have changed in america.
Kids at that age are fine competing against one another. There's no huge mismatch in power. It might just not be the sport for her, or she may just be having a bad day. We see very little of the fuller context here.
@@johngleue I remember playing soccer when I was younger and it was all boys teams except for one game where they had a girl on the team and I was very uncomfortable cuz I didn't know if I should treat her like an equal and play as hard as normal or be careful not to hurt her.
@darganstanton yeah. It makes me think of my friend's daughter's soccer game i watched about a year ago. The girls were 11 and 12 year olds playing boys who were only like 8 years old. The boys were so aggressive and just not scared of intimidated by the ball at all. They destroyed the girls. And while there's no mismatch in physical power per se, there's still an aggression that comes along with being a boy in a very general sense. There can still be anomalies. So yeah, I think I agree with you. There were like two girls that could hold their own against the boys, though, but the entire boys team looked like they were on crack. 😆
@ johngleue
I don’t care what anyone says, there is a reason boys are stronger then girls, there is a reason that girls and boys sports are separate, it’s not right and is just terrible that ppl put theses kids together to fight, the boys have a very distinct and unfair advantage.(when comparing to a girl) it’s also has to be terribly uncomfortable, I for one would not be comfortable with fighting a girl, and I’m an adult I can’t imagine how uncomfortable for this boy it could have been.

Sportsmanship and grace in defeat are not things one is born with. They are learnt as a child grows up by making mistakes.
She didn't throw a tantrum or get mad at the boy or made any unfair moves during the match. Its not an entirely unreasonable response if someone isn't used to being under pressure and panics when being submitted/choked. It was a good learning experience for her.

Two different levels of jiujitsu, two different levels of confidence. The boy was not even using force or pushing too hard. No one is to be blamed here, apart from her coach, she was not ready for the level of pressure of a tournament
Might also be two different ages she is taller so she could be older which would give her the advantage in reach.
She seems way to defensive but she's young and can learn, hopefully she has the mind set to not quit at her first defeat or struggle
@@jamesalexander8193 Exactly, her mindset was the problem, at your first tournament it is 90% mind and 9% body, 1% technique😅. She was not ready for the pressure of a competition and a coach should have known it. Or probably he thought it could have been a good idea to shake her a bit.

For those that don't understand, mix gender is pretty common for younger kids in Jiu jitsu. They put them together based age and rank. Depends on the tournament what age they split genders normally once they get to like 12 and up. As for the emotion, remember they are kids and a lot of times are very competitive. It's just a physical and emotional response from exhaustion and competitiveness. Not that uncommon in young kids sports in general.
makes sense for the age the physical strenght of boys and girls is pretty close till testerone kicks in.
and, for other reasons too...
And for adults that are so fucken angry that they want to hit someone, but they know that will make the situation even worse, so they gotta stuff that anger down.
Yes. I agree. My daughters wrestle boys all the time, and most of the time, whoop up on them. Through 11-12 years old, the boys and girls are matched up physically. The winner is usually a) the more experienced or b) the more aggressive.

I agree. Also looking at rhe fight she was actually stronger than him (barely but still stronger). Also considering thier pre teens and I'd sayshe is maybe 12 vs him at best being 10 so basically until 12 boys and girls on avg are the same strength depending on how active they are (my oldest at 11 picked up a boy and folded him like an envelope in a play fight.
