Warships are some of the largest and most complex technical objects in existence. Their monumental appearance and vast guns are enough to impress everyone. To our regret, it's hard to communicate the sheer scale of these steel giants in the game. In this Dry Dock episode, we compare the sizes of all the Tier X ships released up to Update 0.8.10: from the smallest destroyers to the largest battleships!

@@papaversomniferum2365 If we go with the common belief that GK is based on H-42, it'd have a beam of about 43m, compared to Yamato's 39m beam. So not only would GK be longer, it'd also be a bit wider, which seems to be accurate in-game.

Well, besides Kurfurst, Midway kinda dwarfs everyone, even without the refits she'd end up with in the future. Even then, she towers over Kurfurst, and volume wise, seems far bigger than everyone else.
The best part? She's real, and unlike the vast majority of the list, is still afloat and in a single piece.
Actually they weren't "imaginary" ships like GK were going to be built if the war continued, russian couldnt built more battleships cause of germany advancements an the they really couldn't produce steal over 6inchs or something like that an after Pearl harbour was attacked US put future battleships on hold an focussed on carriers like Essex-class . Montana class was in the works of being built if it wasn't for the the carriers

A crashing and burning economy, poor metallurgy and stagnant shipbuilding technology, scarcity of both manpower and resources that needed to be allocated elsewhere, whilst in a war that was "developing not necessarily to Japan's advantage". All those factors ensure that A-150 battleship(s) were never going to sail the sea.

IOWA CLASS battleships were almost 900 feet in length (About 250 meters)

How about a comparison for ships that actually existed (launched and commissioned during WW2)? It's beyond awkward to see the Yamato dwarfed by the plethora of paper designs filling the current tier X line-up, forget in-game tiers and display the most powerful units that actually sailed in those times for each navy.
if they only did lauched ship not much of the game would be left. Warships puts gameplay above historical accuracy
IMO its great to see what was being designed to combat the yamato. The US had the advantage of the most powerful industrial complex at the time. Russia was close to having the soyuz before having to scrap it to maintain their ground fight against the Nazis.
The benefit of this being a game is that we get to see what could have been. Though if you really do want just what actually existed, WoWs Legends is a thing.

If you are comparing length (which this video is doing) the Iowa class is the longest ever built. Still dwarfed by the german H-45 but that was just a napkin design.
@@BoyanRushkov I know, but what I'd really like to see would be a lineup like Iowa, Yamato, Richelieu, Bismark, Vanguard, Roma, Gangut. Not to find out which was bigger (you can get that from Wikipedia if you don't know already), but to admire them together, in the end that's the primary interest on this kind of video.
Yamato may not be the longest, but she still has the biggest guns out of them all and thatâs all that matters. Plus half those big BBâs didnât even meet production.

One of the videos I like best. Would love to see more of these, for other tiers and also maybe across different tiers but for the same type or something, there are endless thematic possibilities. In the game, you just rarely get an impression of the relative sizes.

In real life the Yamato-class battleships were the biggest BBs ever built, but they also were only the second longest after the Iowa-class battleships.
The Iowas had a length of around 272 meters over all and a displacement of around 55.000 tons at full load, while the Yamatos had a length of 263 meters over all and a displacement of around 73.000 tons at full load.
Thatâs true! Most people think that Yamato is the longest, but actually the Iowa class are the longest battleships in the world.
The difference in tonnage is due to the Iowa class being limited in width to fit through the Panama Canal, isn't it?

They put a full size model of Trump's hands on the Yueyang at the start but they're so tiny you can't see them.
If you do another comparison, I would suggest you let the smallest ship sail along with the camera, so you always have that size perspective. ;)
If you have comparisons like that, where the differences between the individual objects is so small, you lose that perspective and the feeling of size.

@@Hanimichal Well, all the Karens who are too lazy to actually monitor their child will complain if the game contains sailors being blown to pieces as shells slam into the ships. Not just here in the US either. I think GTA V and San Andreas had issues in Australia for some time, especially SA with the hot coffee mod. I'm sure in places like Japan, Australia, and parts of Europe where people play this game the most would also have problems with the violence and rate them higher than teen.

Yea the British named their battleships intense names because it definitely was an intimidation factor. See the British have also been known to have the largest navy in the world for hundreds of years so they tend to name a ship that seems exceptional for the countries history.

Conquerer and Thunderer are the exact same ship hulls, literally no difference apart the guns

Xxx_M8_xxX actually the British light cruisers historically go to tier IX and X. The tier IX Neptune was actually a Minotaur-class light cruiser, and the tier X Minotaur was a Tiger-class light cruiser. So they âexistedâ as real warships, but had different names âhistoricallyâ.

When size doesnât matter and itâs all about how you use it
Battleships come in two flavors towards the end of the war: Short and heavy, or long and light. Long and light battleships tended to dominate because they could keep up with carrier fleets, but things like the Yamato tended to slow fleets down because they were wider than their "fast battleship" counterparts.
Doesn't help Yamato weighed in at 70,000 tons

@@justsomecat8376 bruh nope it's a bastardiced combination of H41 and H42 with complete fantasy main gun turret design. H44 would be a good 50m longer an an couple of tens of thousands of tons heavier. It would be armed with 8x508mm guns I. Twin turrets and 2x8 torpedo launchers. Think it would have the same secondary setup as Bismarck and Tirpits but not Entirely sure about that one. better just go and Google it.

You show the Montana class, of which none were finished before the war ended, and you missed the Iowa class which was the biggest U.S. battleship and included the Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri and Wisconsin which are all still afloat today.

@@spiderwolf7525 Yeah, but those were the times when Yamato's 460mm guns were still considered the Holy Grail and Wargaming insisted on her being the only ship with guns like that. Now pretty much any line (except for the Germans of course) is going to get one while the Japanese are going to get Super-Yamato coming with 508mm guns.
