Hi from France, i drive a petrol tanker here in France, but i'm Australian, from Melbourne, i was a driver back in Australia. To be honest, what a great video,i grew up with Roadranger gearbox's (Fuller is what the're called in Europe),the blokes over here make me laugh, they think that the're drivers, they wouldn't last five minutes in Australia, should have asked Johno to tarp-up a load of general freight.Did he put in his drivers card in the electronic tacho, heaven forbid if he went over the 3×9hrs &2×10hrs driving times!!!!,he'd probably laugh as we can't go over 56hrs.It's another world over there, but what's great is they all speak English..Great chanel you have.

I must admit, I’m an “old school”, country girl, there’s no “blue jobs”, there’s no “pink jobs” in my house, just “jobs!” The job needs doing so do it! This, “I want to drive a truck but I don’t want nights out” or “I want to be a farmer but I’m not starting till 9am” doesn’t make sense to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The way the industry is in UK & Europe reflects that attitude. We are micromanaged but by doing so has created a “can’t do” culture. Madness!

@@gopiren hi there,i was born in 1960,i grew- up with french parents, they had a hard time understanding english,we lived in a very low income/not much future suburb, even thuogh i worked very hard over there i couldn't get ahead,i came to Europe as à working holiday,i planned being overseas for a year and i fell in love with Europe, got my shit together, made the dual nationality work.Australia is a great place,Australians are pretty amazing people,i'm talking 35 years ago,but they are pretty unforgiving, what with the french nuclear heating in French Polinesea,us french were hated,i supose i was victim of racism, dunno, all the doors were shut.Back in 1989,when i landed here in France,i got a job with Norbert Dentressangle running to England, i couldn't speak a word of French (we only spoke english at home)but they didn't care,i spoke English, they thought it was fantastic,à french wagon, with à driver who spoke "strine",it was so much easier for them. For an Aussie Europe is just tiny,Wrexham>Naples wasn't really that far, tiny little 290hp Renaults, limited at 90kph i couldn't believe it,i used to overnight Melb>Sydney in 9hrs at 130 kmh with all the drugs (amphétamines)associated, here drivers have rights, there are yearly médical examinations, they monitor your hours, they try to look after your health, shit i thought i had landed in heaven,I love Australia don't get me wrong, but here in France i just feel good, might be all that french blood that runs through my viens, but funilly enough i thank god that i was educated and brought up in Australia. Regarding the Eaton twin splitter, when I got mine back in the 80’s I spent a few days in neutral but after I got the hang of it it was a dream to work, then you can practise the “bunny hop” gear change.

@@MayorofDipshittery-lq7if yeah, which one ? the nine speed direct drive or overdrive?or was it the ten speed or was it the 13 speed ? or was it the fifteen speed, you know with deep reduction, which gave you only twelve useable gears if you started off in deep reduction, don't tell me it was an 18 speed ? ....so which one was it big boy.

Thanks Jono for another great video, between you and the Homeless Truckie I get to live the feast of my trucking life vicariously through you guys as after 30 years on the job I broke my back and was told I’d never be able to drive a truck again, not if I wanted to keep walking that is. I used to do mostly road train work between Brisbane and Darwin and Brisbane and North Queensland and Emerald & the Bowen basin , used to have the odd trip to Alice Springs too. Keep up the great work. And stay safe my brother

Hello there. I'm in the UK. I used to drive tractors delivering gravel to sites where you wouldn't get with a
Truck. Going up some very steep
Gradients. Like you say. You have control with a manual gearbox. Stick it in a low gear on steep hills and keep it in the same gear until it levels out. Then you can change up.

The difference between UK Trucks and Australian trucks is that the red airline passes through the cab park brake on Australian trucks which therefore means that when the cab parking brake is applied, the trailer brakes are also applied. Hence why there is no gush of air when connecting the airlines on aussie trucks. On UK trucks, the red airline is permanently live which means that the trailer brakes are only applied via the foot brake or by getting out of the truck and physically applying the trailer brakes via the buttons or by removing the airlines. Most UK drivers wouldn't have a clue that their trailer is only held by the tractor unit (prime mover) whilst still connected and parked. Obviously, if the UK were to ever allow double combinations to operate on UK roads, they would have to reconfigure the braking systems as you couldn't have 90 tones only being held by the tractor unit when parked up.

Loving your videos. Listening to your conversation about manual/automatic, I totally agree with you. I absolutely prefer driving manual. You can see what's happening way ahead than an automatic car can, and keep yourself out of trouble. A human brain and reatic faster than a computer, which is basically an automatic car. Even when on cruise control, you still have control, but you can still lose control sometimes.

  • @aussietruckphotosandmodels8510

Johno made a comment that a few people wouldn't have picked up on, but it rings true with most Australian truck drivers " We get held up by car a lot of the time." Once you get above 60 ton momentum is very important.....
    @ 69 tons, from a standing start on a flat road 0 - 100 kph is about 3 1/2 k's @ 80 tons 0 -90 kph is about 4 1/2 k's.
So you don't want to slow down very often....
