    Another great video DTW. 👍🏻 I always enjoy how cool, calm, and collected you always are. 😀 Plus it's always great to watch videos of people like you that are good at what they do. You're also right in saying that using a pen from start to finish is indeed a life achievement and it should go in your scrap book alongside your fact of the most km's covered in a 10 hour drive. 😁

    Welcome back mate. Have a good time in Oz. Last bit l saw was you were on your way across the outback on a dirt road as a short cut. Obviously you made it as you were a little concerned about the lack of fuel stations for your bike.
    Good content on this vid been through that tunnel 3 times. Seems to go on forever 😂. First time l managed to find the old tunnel. No charge on this tunnel.
    The new one was a shock as l had to pay 45 euros. Thought it was a bit steep that. But when you get into it you can understand why.
    Ancona is a nightmare. They really need to sort it out. Not enough room to swing a cat in there. But the ferry to patras was good. Food excellent, cabin with sea views was comfortable and clean.Only thing was ferry rules were not adhered to. You could open the supposed locked door. Then walk out onto the car deck back to your car anytime. The door is supposed to be locked at sea. Safety and all that( but it's greek) doesn't happen 😂😂.
    Looking forward to the next vid of this trip.
    Again great to have you back. Missed the vids you put up.
    Know in your last vid you had loads to put up and it was just having the time to do it.

      Don't really film inside services and I rarely buy drinks when water is free from the tap. Also if the initial cut is too long things will have to be cut out.

    Great video. It's been a long day and I was watching, thinking how are you going to get from La Fayet / Geneva to Ancona in one hit. Then I remembered ... Ancona.... not Brindisi.... It's been a while since I was down that way.
    I can still remember the Autostrada used to finish just south of Aosta. and the rest of the road up the Blonk was just gnarly national, through all the small villages......
    Do people still change the sign just south of Aosta. for Castle Fenis ? it used to have a bit of black tape on the F to make it look like a P... Cheep joke but it always made me smile.
    A mate of mine used to do similar stuff, did a bit EST, Trans AM, and Exop out of Honiton, He got out as far as Yekaterinburg.

      @@DTWTheWanderingMuzungu The sign is one of those brown historical interest ones. Its about 3 or 4 k's south of Aosta on the Autostrada. And there used to be a a small Fiat van shaped like a pig which you could see from the autostrada near Parma.

    Whats you're limit on the tonnage?

  • @jackjoyce1744
    @jackjoyce1744 Před 2 měsíci +1

    Could you please explain something for me?
    I’ve noticed that the majority of trucks in the UK and Ireland almost exclusively use 6x2 midlifts or just standard 6x2 with steering axle yet in Europe (excluding the Nordics) it’s always a 4x2. I know that on a 4x2 in the UK you can weigh a max of 40t and 42t in Ireland but most of Europe will only allow max 40t. Why is that? Also, from a driving perspective, which is more comfortable to drive?

    • @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu
      @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu  Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah you've pretty much got it. 40t in most of Europe on five axles then the uk is 44t on six axles, makes economic sense to carry as much as possible so mostly six axles over here. The extra length to get the third axle causes 6x2 to be over length in a lot of Europe but that may not be an issue now as length limits were extended just recently to account for it. They aren't really that different comfort wise just a slightly worse turning circle on the 6x2.

    • @jackjoyce1744
      @jackjoyce1744 Před 2 měsíci

      @@DTWTheWanderingMuzungu thanks. Another question, are 6x4s used much in general? I live in Sweden and I hardly ever come across any 6x4 trucks unless it’s for a specialist job like heavy hauling. Most of our trucks and the same applies to Finland, are rigid trucks towing a longer trailer in a tandem setup. The rigid itself tends to use a 6x2 tag axle and the trailer is just a 3 axle with a dolly. This is done this way because of taxes and now in Finland and Sweden we can pull up to 37m and up to 70t in Sweden and 94t in Finland with double trailers called HCT. In Finland I have seen some Russian brands like Kamaz, Maz, Ural etc and a common tax dodge was to register your truck fleet in Russia and operate using Finnish trailers. It was perfectly legal until the government changed the law. We also used to fill up in Russia (pre Ukraine war) for like €0.50 per litre as opposed to €1.70 per litre.

    • @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu
      @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu  Před 2 měsíci

      @@jackjoyce1744 A lot of countries including most of our neighbours are now running B or A doubles, sometimes the big wag n drags as you said you do. We however are overly risk averse and road safety people don't want them so we just stick to a single trailer with a 6x2 which are super common.
