- It's back! The World's Greatest Drag Race returns with 10 of the world's best supercars and sports cars facing off in an epic quarter-mile sprint for glory... and ultimate bragging rights! This year's field includes all 10 contenders from Motor Trend's 2015 Best Driver's Car.
We have the Mercedes AMG GT S, Bentley Continental GT3-R, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Cadillac ATS-V, Volkswagen Golf R, Porsche Cayman GT4, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mercedes-AMG C63 S, Lexus RC F, Cadillac CTS-V -- all gathered together on an abandoned airstrip at El Toro Marine Base to find out which car is the fastest. Obviously these 10 competitors display a wide range of power and performance, so why do we continue lining them up for one, over-the-top drag race?... Because We Can!

It did 128 mph on the straight, that's how much cars with around 500hp and 3600-3800 pounds do there. You think it would do a 1:38 lap with 200hp? It doesn't have THAT much grip, in fact, go watch the AMG GT-S and Zo6 videos side by side, you'll see the AMG is actually faster on every corner entry, on every apex and every corner exit on the track. So it wasn't like the ZO6 made up the time by being faster in the corners. It simply lost about 100-150 hp. And that's the 2-3 sec difference per lap.
There's a pretty high chance that the Z06 in the working version won this competition or at least was somewhere on the podium. But it's not our (the audience) fault that the magnificent piece of machinery broke on the way to that podium... it is what it is, I guess we'll get a full review in an Ignition episode on in some head to head with the GTS.

They did, if you watch a few videos they did before this race, they compared these cars in a bunch of different ways and the miata was in the top 3 "Drivers car" along side the Porsche and Amg that they have there.

TBH Chevy Corvette Z06 at current used car market price is a super car bargain.
I'm actually REALLY impressed by the MX-5, 14.5 is nothing to sneeze at, considering the Mazdaspeed3 did a 14.1 and had about an extra hundred horsepower on tap.

+Troggie42 While I respect the handling and power-to-weight ratio of the Miata, I'm almost certain that they didn't include the early start of the Miata in this number. I have a very hard time believing that a stock Miata ran a 14.5. Most other ET's I see for a stock 2015 Miata are around the 15.7-16.0 frame and those are not convertibles which weigh more and have worse aerodynamics.

***** Yea the vette is pretty fast too, but in motortrends old dragraces the Nissan GT-R did better times than what the vette did in this race. Obviously the vette is gonna be faster in higher speeds because of the power and rwd but in short races the GT-R might have the edge on it.

+AERO BLKHWK32 GT-R's are boring now anyways. "Yep...it's fast...alright let's go get another car.", is how many reviewers that are familiar with them see the GT-R. It is fast and that's about it. A driver's car needs to be more than just fast. We've seen the GT-R, we've seen how it performs, and now that we've had it shoved down our throats so much it's boring now. Plus it's pretty much the same car it was since 2009 and probably will be until 2019. So eventually it will stop being invited because they want new cars at these drag races.
The Corvette does have launch control and no-lift shift with the manual gearbox, but ironically some say it causes slower acceleration. The 8-speed auto Corette launches in 2.95 seconds to 60mph and hits the 1/4 mile in 11.1 seconds.
Low 11's with the manual ZO6? That's pretty impressive.

I wouldn't put the ACR in there because it is so track focused that it'd be shit in a straight line, Z/28 was on it last year, same problem as the ACR, but it would be better in the BDC competition, and they use the same cars, besides the Z28 is gonna reach the end of its cycle soon, very limited same for the GT350R, so they should use a new Camaro next year, oh and include an Huracán, SV, 488GTB, 675LT

That's when with all the downforce reducing straight line speed aero bits on it too. That car is from a set of sticky drag radials away from a mid to low 10 second et....
It's a manual. It eats up more time every shift and is harder to launch.

The gear ratios are very different in each car, the vette has crazy tall gearing, while the benz only hits 170, so it is actually impressive that the vette was able to win with such tall gearing.
+matthew von It's not all HP. The Bentley had AWD and one of the quickest shifting automatics around. The AMG GT also had a DCT and as said can put down power very well.
Besides the point of the Corvette is to be the best bang for your buck and the cheapest performance you can buy. The Z06 with a manual costs about $78k base, or $98k almost fully optioned. The AMG GT costs $130k just at base, and is fully optioned at $172k. Let's not even get started on the Bentley which costs $341k. The Corvette won against all and costs almost half less than the AMG and a whole 3.25 times less than the Bentley.
Even then the Corvette is a track car, it's a street legal race car. The AMG GT is a luxury...well...GT. The Bentley is a I don't know what the fuck to call it. All different cars, all different goals.

SDOG I live in Dallas and not once have I seen a Nismo GT-R. I went down to my home town of Abilene and saw 4 Z06's in the span of 6 hours.

Apparently the Corvette and Bentley were faster to 60 and yet at 4:28 the AMG GT S is accelerating faster and is ahead of both cars
4:47 - 4:50 AMG GT S is accelerating, and overtaking both the Corvette and the Bentley
And yet at 4:52 the AMG GT S is way behind both cars
If it's possible to overtake to 1st position then fall behind suddenly in under a second to 3rd then this drag race was not staged.
But I got to give it to them, this video was exciting as hell!

Well, after doing a little research myself, it turns out the whole "Greatest Drag Race" is STAGED. All they do is they film a few runs, then they "adjust"(manipulate, if you will) the end formation to match the times they've already got out from OTHER cars on OTHER days prior to this "race". This is so they don't contradict their previous test results, I guess.
It really is a shame, because the weather, track conditions, even the condition of each car could heavily affect the outcome of a 1/4 mile run.
The AMG GT S for example should clearly have finished higher, the 11.6s they got previously from a blue one isn't a particularly great time for the model......
