BrillIant Seph - your first reaction to a song from my all time favourite abum and probably one of the finest of his career. It is now a heavily critically acclaimed album - mostly in retrospect it must be said and quite simple has no weak spot. You are in for a treat!!
Of the eight studio masters contained within Elvis’ 1970 album “That’s The Way It Is”, only one was not given serious consideration for inclusion on his live set list for his August 1970 Las Vegas engagement. From the remaining seven tracks, only “Mary In The Morning” was not sung live on stage by Elvis but did make it as far as the stage rehearsal.
Various renditions of all of the songs contained on the album were captured by the film crews of MGM during the production of the documentary of the same title as the album. These varied from rehearsals to live performances but not all made it into the final edit of the original 1970 movie. In the case of “How The Webb Was Woven”, the only rendition by Elvis during main production was an informal rehearsal at the conclusion of his 15 July 1970 session in Culver City. It took place whilst Elvis was singing a few songs as he accompanied himself on piano as he wound down after some intense filmed rehearsals. Only a small portion, the conclusion, of this rendition made the final edit of the original 1970 version of “That’s The Way It Is”.
The studio master was recorded by Elvis on 5 June 1970 at RCA’s Studio B in Nashville and the third and final take was chosen as the master. Of the seven masters recorded at that day of recordings, four would be included on “That’s The Way It Is”.
Additional backing vocals were added on 22 June with brass added at a session on 20 July 1970 and additional band overdub two days later.

Well you got to my top 5 of my all time favorites of Elvis. You’re going to see this comment before but on your own listen to this on your streaming service from Elvis in Nashville album without all the back noise, it’s just his beautiful voice with just the simple instruments he has to record it. His voice is stunning in this. I wish he had sung it live but there is a rehearsal video in which he plays it and his friend Charlie is softly singing it behind him and then Elvis sings the chorus as he plays the piano. Gorgeous song, underrated unfortunately as not many people know it except of course all the Elvis fans. That’s why it’s great the way you’re doing it. You’ll miss very little and if you do, the fans will tell you. 😂😂❤❤❤🎸🕺🏻🎸🕺🏻🥰

1st: I full on recognize that spiders play an important part in the earth's ecosystem. So I have no issue with them. Just like honey bees and bats and crickets and frogs without them we would have a lot problems.
They play KEY roles in our ecosystems.
Even my sister who has a fear of spiders has grown to respect the role of spiders in the earth's ecosystem.
2nd: Awww... Seph you do know my respect has just grown for you 💛
True Story: I used to work as an office cleaner/ janitor years ago and there was this one office that had a lady bug infestation. The lady bugs mostly stayed in one corner of the office. I never vacuumed that corner. I just could not bring myself to do it. I didn't have the heart too.
3rd: Info for now on this one, more will come later:
This was Elvis' first substantial studio time since the now legendary sessions of January and February 1969 at the American Studios in Memphis. Elvis had entered those Memphis sessions off the back of a successful television special and had approached the sessions like a hungry fighter aiming to reclaim his title. This focus led to some of the finest recordings of Elvis' career, including hits such as 'Suspicious Minds', 'In the Ghetto' and 'Kentucky Rain', and two impressive albums in 'From Elvis in Memphis' and 'Back in Memphis'.
In short, the Nashville sessions had a lot to live up to.
By June 1970, Elvis' comeback was secured. He had achieved four top ten hits on the US singles chart over the previous 12 months, including a number one with 'Suspicious Minds', and his return to live performance in Las Vegas had been a critical triumph, as had his appearances at the Houston Astrodome three months before.
Let's take a look at what Elvis recorded at the Nashville Marathon and who played on the sessions.
    Musicians / Technicians
    Guitar: Elvis Presley
    Guitar: James Burton
    Guitar: Chip Young
    Guitar: Charlie Hodge
    Drums: Jerry Carrigan
    Piano: David Briggs
    Bass: Norbert Putnam
    Organ/Harmonica/Marimba: Charlie McCoy
    Engineer: Al Pachuki
    Producer: Felton Jarvis
The musicians on the session were entirely different to those on the Memphis sessions and, apart from James Burton on lead guitar, no member of his live band was present either.
The personnel were not unfamiliar however as, apart from Carrigan and Putnam, they had all worked with Elvis before. Putnam had also technically appeared with Elvis before, but only by way of an overdub session for 'Beyond the Reef' in 1968, which Elvis wasn't present at.
Putnam later told Elvis biographer Peter Guralnick how nervous he was about the prospect of working with Elvis: 'I was scared to death. I remember standing in the bathroom looking in the mirror and saying 'Dear God, don't let me be the one to screw up this session. Don't let me be the first guy to ruin it!'
Chip Young had first worked with Elvis on the 1966 sessions that produced the 'How Great Thou Art' gospel album. Briggs' association began at the same session, where he played piano on the single Love Letters. McCoy had done some great work with Elvis on tracks such as Big Boss Man (1967), but began his association less auspiciously as a guitarist on the best forgotten 'Harum Scarum' sessions in 1965. Charlie Hodge was one of Elvis' closest friends and he had appeared on and off at sessions since 1960.
    June 5. 1970 RCA Studio B - Nashville, Tennessee
Bridge Over Troubled Water ZPA4 1600-08
Got My Mojo Working / Keep Your Hands Off It ZPA4 1601-01
How The Web Was Woven ZPA4 1602-03
It's Your Baby, You Rock It ZPA4 1603-05
Stranger In The Crowd ZPA4 1604-09
    I'll Never Know ZPA4 1605-07
Mary In The Morning ZPA4 1606-05
A real mixed bag here, from the sublime Bridge Over Troubled Water (although better live versions would be recorded) and It's Your Baby, You Rock It, to the rather forgettable I'll Never Know. The 'That's the Way It Is' cuts are all strong songs and very well executed. 'Got My Mojo Working / Keep Your Hands Off It' was from a jam session and breathed some life into the 'Love Letters from Elvis' album.

2nd comment: Song Info Below: Source (Wiki- yes I know but I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment):
"How the Web Was Woven" is a song written by English songwriters Clive Westlake and David Most. It was first recorded by rock and soul singer Jackie Lomax and released in February 1970 as his final single on the Beatles' Apple record label. George Harrison produced the recording, which also features contributions from American musician Leon Russell. The single is unique in that, with Paul McCartney producing the B-side, each side was produced by a different member of the Beatles.
Elvis Presley issued a recording of the song later in 1970 on his album That's the Way It Is. Presley's version was also the B-side of his 1971 single "I Just Can't Help Believin'", which became a top-ten hit in Britain and other European countries.
"How the Web Was Woven" was written in 1969 by Clive Westlake and David Most, the brother of record producer Mickie Most and, at the time, an executive at Carlin Music Publishers. According to Tony Hiller, another London-based songwriter, David Most first approached Australian producer David Mackay with an idea for the song and Mackay provided the melody for the chorus. Westlake and Most completed the song and recorded a demo. This and several other Carlin demos were then submitted as material for Elvis Presley to record via Freddy Bienstock, who owned Carlin and looked after Presley's music publishing interests in the company Hill & Range.
Like other ballads selected for Presley over this period, "How the Web Was Woven" is a love song with a dark theme. It was also typical of the material sourced from Carlin's songwriters in terms of its European pop style, dramatic mood and dense musical arrangement. Most told Record Mirror magazine that it was the third song he had written, after "Goodbye" and "Le Blon", recorded by Barry Ryan and Anita Harris, respectively. He also said that Percy Sledge was the singer he "had in mind" when writing the song.
How the Web Was Woven" was first recorded in London by Jackie Lomax. The sessions took place in October and November 1969 and were produced by George Harrison for the Beatles' Apple record label. Having fallen out with Apple since Allen Klein's appointment as the company's business manager in May 1969, Lomax was reluctant to record the song. Harrison recognised the importance of the piano part and initially booked session pianist Nicky Hopkins to play on the track, but Hopkins became unavailable. The recording instead features contributions from American multi-instrumentalist Leon Russell, who was in London to record his debut solo album. In addition to piano, Russell played organ and guitar on the track. According to Most, Harrison also played guitar on the recording, which he described as an "up-tempo" version.
The song was Lomax's final single on Apple Records. The B-side of the UK release - a cover of Leiber and Stoller's "Thumbin' a Ride" - was produced by Paul McCartney, making "How the Web Was Woven" the only single to have its A-side produced by one member of the Beatles and the B-side by another. The single was issued in the United Kingdom on 6 February 1970 (as Apple 23) and on 9 March in the United States (as Apple 1819), where the previously released "Fall Inside Your Eyes" was the B-side. As with Lomax's previous singles for the label, it failed to chart.
"How the Web Was Woven" was included as a bonus track on the 2010 reissue of Lomax's 1969 album Is This What You Want? Writing in 2013, Danny Eccleston of Mojo magazine described the recording as "a terrific, rough-and-ready version of this Clive Westlake/David Most tune" aided by "[Lomax's] authentic country-soul phrasing and the quality accompaniment by the on-fire Leon Russell".
Presley recorded "How the Web Was Woven" during a five-day period of intensive recording at RCA Studios in Nashville, in early June 1970. Other than for film soundtrack recordings, the sessions were Presley's first since February 1969 and produced a total of 34 tracks, many of them from Bienstock's Carlin catalogue. In return for the prestige associated with having their composition recorded by Presley, Westlake and Most ceded their publishing royalties to him and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, a situation that was standard for Hill & Range.
The song was released in November 1970 on Presley's album That's the Way It Is. In his review for AllMusic, Stephen Thomas Erlewine includes the track among the album's "perfectly pleasant middle-of-the-road material pitched halfway between Hollywood and Music City". It also appeared as the B-side of "I Just Can't Help Believin'", a single released in November 1971 in markets outside the United States. The single peaked at number 6 on the UK Singles Chart and was also a top-ten hit in Belgium, the Netherlands and South Africa.

Ah! Cockroaches are just above spiders on my hate list. So second worst for a house pest. I think they are aliens. After all they have way too many eyes. I have this album. Lots of good stuff. Hope you enjoy it. Really made me laugh yesterday when you listed the music you previously listened to. I'd never heard of most of them, but I'm old. Music to me is pleasing harmony with instruments and great singing. The words come after that. Sometimes I don't listen to the words at all.

This whole album argues that Elvis didn't necessarily have to include rock n roll on every disc in order to be current. The crooner album that made Englbert Humperdinck and Tom Jones seem diminished.

I like this song, but I've cooled on it in recent years. I would've loved to have heard Elvis sing it live. He never did. I don't know why. He must not have liked it. I remember how disappointed I was when I brought home this album when I was 15. I was so excited, but I was quickly disappointed by the generic 70's sound and the lack of rock. I especially disappointed considering the just sheer phenomena that is TTWII which is the ultimate of Elvis' video performances. Good tune, certainly not great. Top 250.

@@belinda35_77 Maybe. He was caught on camera during TTWII rehearsals singing it. I don't know if he loved it. That we don't know. EP sang a lot of songs that were less than favorites from his audiences. He did them because he wanted to.
