Castlevania for kids. That's describes it
exactly. It's a well made game that went under the radar everywhere except
Japan for a long time. This is Kid Dracula more or less, based on the watered
down Game Boy version released around the same time I think. Boka Dracula-kun
itself is based on Castlevania, or it seems like more of a parody, which should
be very noticeable when you see it's cartoon-like renditions of many well known
enemies. The music and graphics are also lighter and much less gloomy and dark.
The game is patched in English, so some text is not readable. -

Heh... what a cute game, wonder why it was never localized-
4:12 Oh...
with the swastika intact?
How is it that the guys that got bombed twice in that war care less about a swatiska than the guys that won the war?
The symbol in question is not a swastika, but a manji.
@@luisreyes1963 they still care less.
@@janmarcoperezbatres2203 you are obviously unaware of the fact that it took til last august for any references to Nazis in German ports of games to be allowed... nevermind the fact they made the game I have no mouth and I must scream literally broken to remove a concentration camp doctor.
It would have been funny if the last boss was a 7 year old Simon Belmont.
That would be awesome, or even a 7 year old Trevor Belmont.
Or a 7 years old Ritcher Belmont
Stop little pest ! You're don't belong to take my ice cream !
Would the kid use a whip, or a jump rope though?
I used to play this thing in the early 90s. The cartridge was labeled Castlevania 7 so I haven’t been able to find it again until now.... about 2 decades later. The song from the first stage has been stuck in my head all these years
Kid Dracula is going to be included in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection for Nintendo Switch.
It's alucard from castlevania. The main enemy in kid dracula is garamoth, who is also a boss in sotn.
I wonder how this little dude is gonna work as the Secret Stage Boss in Smash Ultimate's Castlevania stage? I'm assuming he's gonna shoot his fireballs everywhere, like the little bugger he is.
EDIT: Nevermind. Just a shadow and a spirit for this little dude.
That is, if it does end up being a secret boss. Game Xplain could be wrong...
@gimtek Nothing to do with maturity. In Japan, KKK and Nazism simply do not have the same cultural and historical impacts that they have in the "West". The Japanese simply have different taboos than we do and vice versa.
Plus this game isn't specifically aimed towards children.
And you're a Weebo.
Great game ! thanks for upload this film, I looking for this game a lot of time. I finished that game :)
Anyone get the feeling that the music in the first level sounds something like an upbeat version of "Beginning" from Castlevania 3?
Yes, because that was the intention of the composer :D
the music is a swing remix of castlevania 3's level 1
I just started playing this on the Castlevania Anniversary Collection. It's pretty fun.
Nice longplay!
The sound track of the final boss is great!
The soundtrack is good all around! Especially the airship level!
Smash bros ultimate hype
this seems to have extra levels compared to the version called "Kid Dracula" in the Castlevania anniversary collection
I want this game SO MUCH! And the Gameboy one ever MORE!!
It's kinda crazy how the humble Game Boy game actually looks better, because the four shades of gray [green] there can be used everywhere and allow for more shading on characters and such than the NES can manage. Four shades of gray really can display just about anything, as it gives you the dark outline colour, the main colour, and the highlight and shadow tones on the main colour. And on the sprites it's three colours, so you get the dark outline colour, the main colour and the shadow tones. Pretty ingenious of Nintendo there with the Game Boy really. :-o
And now the advertisement from this video is the Castlevania Anniversary Collection. How natural.
Came here because of Super Smash Brother's Ultimate, I wanted to see what this game was about.
4:12 Woah woah wait a sec
OMG finaly I found that game, my nostalgic moment *-*
cool game for the NES
4:16 Wait a minute. Does that big ghost have a swastika on him?
What a cool and well made game! It's only slightly distubring and somewhat fitting that it seems to be a frankenstein-like amalgamation of bits and pieces of other NES titles... Most obviously Mega-bloke and Castlethingamy, but also, the HUD looks straight out of SMB3, and snatches of the music were uncannily reminiscent of the (excellent) music for the Turtles game.
Is that some kind of Mode 7 (SNES mechanics) going on at the beginning of the video with the moon??
40:15 bender de futurama XD
I used to play this game on a NES famicon named Dynavision. I have never finished it. Great times!
Yeah. It also got announced for smash ultimate
Castlevania Jr.
Does anyone know how to get this to run on a nes mini or famicom mini.
It says the mapper isn’t compatible. It says the same thing for holy diver but someone patched it.
Any patches for this? I’ve googled for hours and found nothing.
Cool, I loved this game on the Game Boy! I didn't know there was a Famicom version.
Good played :D
I remember playing this game a long time ago. It's quite good. A Mega Man kind of platformer.
Good God this game is tough! Bought a cart from Japan recently and got to the Sky/Ships level and it is REALLY tough.
And it's not exclusive to Japan anymore, it was localized almost 30 years later, with changes, and the new name Kid Dracula.
What a game, you can even throw rocks when still standing on the ladder!
one of the best games!!
I love this game long time ago. And stuck in robotics boss, because my disk of game error
I love this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everybody.. it is a manji..not a swastika
You.. Manji is simply the Japanese word for Swastika.
Manjis face the other way, genius
The sprite is mirrored when the character turns around, genius.
Simbabbad manjis were intended to be a simbol of piece the nazis just ruined it
I could never defeat that dragon at 38:00.. now thanks to this video, i just realised that you have to use the ice weapon.. duh!
This is one of my all time fav famicom games as a kid
I miss the game
@AlllexL 7:42 Maybe it's a poultrygeist. LOL
Does anyone know of a more updated version of this game? I think I remember playing it on the SNES, but I can't find it anywhere!!
+Will Santana It's possible you played the Game Boy version on a Super Gameboy?
Sidecar Lion It was never on the NES.
Sam ZXW You're technically right. However, there was a Famicom version, which is the one being shown in this very video. Same difference...
ZombifiedDuder Not really, it's a different console in many ways.
Sam ZXW I mean, sure. The Disk System is the biggest difference... especially the difference in sound hardware with Disk System games.
However, Disk System aside, the only differences I can think of between the NES and Famicom are the controllers being permanently connected, and the microphone on the second controller.
In terms of the system's internals, they're essentially the same, and the games can run on either, assuming you get rid of or bypass the physical region lock.
They're the same console with some minor differences.
How cute to see little Alucard
It's Dracula, not Alucard. There's a reason the game is called Kid Dracula. Why is it so hard for some people to grasp this?
It couldn't have been Dracula. Ever played Lament of Innocence? I go with the popular version and say the kid is Alucard.
Besides, some people call me "Kid [insert mother's name]" too. It's not that weird.
Pictures of Dracula show up in the background of the Gameboy one, so it would make sense it's Alucard as Kid Dracula is clearly a younger individual.
I suppose Kid Dracula could be the son of another vampire at this point of the games canon, but highly unlikely.
Some people say he's Alucard's brother
The cloud stage reminds me of airmans stage on megaman 2.
I'm not thinking its a ghost, RileySkye100
So later on he turned into a picture in the msx....?
Wow, for a Castlevania game this seems to play an awful lot like Mega Man.
I thought I was the only one who thought the same thing when first playing it!
@@quadpad_music You got: *GARLIC SHOT!*
Picked this one up last year off Atari Age (loose cart), of course untranslated, don't care though as it's a blast to play and have in my collection. Worth the $25 I spent on it.
I played a game like this on my childhood the same kid but with black hair and a bird crow on his shoulder I wonder what is the name of this game?
Grande jogo da Nintendo, são cenários super divertido para um gamer daquela época, top 👍👏👏👏😀
Eu costumava chamar esse jogo de "Mario Japonês".
So that was "no charged attack" challenge?
Why my kid Dracula is glitching? Tsk, but I can still play it, the background is glitching
Do you have a physical famicom cart? Just clean the contacts. If you have an NES cart then you have a reproduction/fake and they probably didn't clone the VRC4 chip accurately. If emulator, use a different emulator because it's not accurately emulating the VRC4 chip.
Love this game its like metroid and megaman but also funny, there is a new full translation patch by chronix...
It’s a good game with some amezong graphical effects here and there but i can hardly associate this with a castlevania game, eventrough it does have references to it.
in my mind this game will forever be known as "Alucard's Early Years"! even tho everyone knows this character's his future dad, I refuse to picture The Impaler as a heroic figure (tho in the tale he started as one) so, yeah! also at 4:12, yes folks, that IS a swaztika on the "ghost"'s head. therefore I shall name it WeizsGeist, the Spirit of Hatred. I can only imagine how it would look on a true Castlevania game!
You can createad him on smackdown vs raw
5:23
cloud level
why exist cloud's level in games ?
Dracula can walk over water too ?
Ps : i like the game, is freaking weird
Dracula: I am the night. The immortal terror. I shall reign over the world and put it into eternal darkness.
Also Dracula but a kid: WHEEE ADVENTURE
Kid Dracula it's Dracula's son
simply, its a parody. Thats also why he is in Parodius 2.
Parodius 3 actually (Gokujou Parodius SNES) because the MSX original was first and then came Parodius Da! Which is the real Parodius 2. Gokujou Parodius was part 3. Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius was part 4 (he appeared in the Saturn version) and finally Sexy Parodius which is the fifth and final part of the series
+DrMuganda +Kagereneko +Ukyo Tachibana +Juan Mamaril +Derek Sanders +The Tenkaichi, Hero Among Gamers and Otaku +triplestar100 It's Dracula, not Alucard. There's a reason the game is called Kid Dracula. Why is it so hard for some people to grasp this?
It. Is. Alucard. Why is it hard for you to _grasp_ that when it's been confirmed?
Classicooooooooooo
The First game of Soma Cruz as a playable character.
Alucard = Kid dracula = soma cruz?
Era muy bueno,Colombia
What's up with that boss with the white robes and hood with the swastika on it?
@S0ryiu I know :P thats why I said "The Nazis used"
05:08
WTF?
ShinobiKirby untranslated text on a reprogrammed game looks like that
I could not add this to the NES/SNES Classic hack program. What do I have to do after downloading the file?
Alucard Childhood
First off... Why does Dracula have Goku hair?
Second off... Why is everything so cute?
Genial juego
Incoming Smash fans!!
Quien no se gastaba lo de las tortillas para jugar este juego
So when does he join the fight in Super Smash Bros? Before someone brings up the KKK boss, remember the first arc villain in Persona 5 tries to get a teenage girl to sleep with him.
RileySkye100 No, it is a Manji
Which is simply the Japanese word for Swastika.
Lol OH MAN they really cheaped out on the title card in this game, I got the Japanese version and it looks like they just went ahead on MS paint and added blue over the Japanese and then copy pasted a logo.
+Shinomori Ryuichi I think that's because this is just a fan translation. I believe the game never officially got released in English-speaking territories.
+ZombifiedDuder ahh you're right this is the NES version. I have the game boy version that was released here
Shinomori Ryuichi I actually just realized, this is an older version of the fan translation... the newer version has a much better looking title screen, and the bonus games actually has working dialogue.
Watch Kotaku complain about klansmen being a boss
Exreme Hard
Are you cheating?
if you hold the shoot button for about 3 secs you get bigger fireball and a coin
Alucard
The title screen sucks on this English version.
Mega man?
you know that you play as Alucard in this when he's still a kid right?
Alucard!
It's Dracula, not Alucard. There's a reason the game is called Kid Dracula. Why is it so hard for some people to grasp this?
+Saruman38 okay Gandalf
Miguel Angel Ortiz Camilo walteeeer
I think he's Alucard's brother
@AlllexL yet they have the symbol the nazi's used
So cute with nice music, fun character designs, great stage design, and a dash of humor. But worse programming than its Castlevania predecessors, with some of the worst collision detection in the franchise. And bat mode is slightly broken due to the game's horrendous hit detection. The mini-games are creative - I laughed at the Can-can one - but only the lottery tumbler and roulette are worthwhile, the other two are just a waste of time and coins.
It's the most creative and best looking of the franchise, but I still gotta rank it below CV3 and only slightly above CV1.
Gameboy version is way better
I completely agree.
And it wasn't even included in the Anniversary Collection.
What a shame.
Celestial Light This Famicom version just has way too many cheap sections to be much fun. Be it the pyramid boss essentially being able to one shot you because of knock back or that slog at the end where you have to fight three bosses on a single life, it’s NES hard at its worst. Gameboy version however is a lot more balanced...not to mention the cutscenes are infinitely charming. Also, you get to fight what’s basically Jason Voorhees in level 2. That alone makes it superior lol.
@@evan2902 You're so right about everything you've said.
I do agree that the famicom version is cheap.
+RileySkye100 That wasn't a ghost, it's a member of the KKK.
Dude, back in the day I was a brazilian kid who couldnt speak english properly (which I was mostly familiar on gaming) playing this game in japanese. Could you please stop whining?
why does everyone here think the game is geared toward kids ?
RTAじゃないんだし序盤で溜め撃ちや上撃ちがない時点で萎えるんだよ。
i hate castlevania ( exept i and ii ) but i love drakula kun his better an funny to me : D
Overhyping something like a Ghost that looks like a KKK member with swastika is stupid. It is an odd choice of Konami to put something like that in the game but it is not racist because it is the bad guy and you are supposed to fight it in the game.
Just goes to show how much mature Japan is. Putting nazis and klan members in a game geared at children and nobody batting an eyebrow there I'd bet
